babe i’ve seen this 100 times and i am STILL not over that scene. the amount of times she’s saved their lives…saved the world…i cannot.

Your expression was so damn relatable during that scene. I felt that. Especially agree with your thoughts on Giles. He should know better.

Every time I see this episode my stomach is in knots and the rage comes back. I do see both the sides, but I still get so mad.

Fun fact: the band playing at the bronze is Nerf Herder (the band that made the intro song). This episode definitely induces rage. At the end of the day though, I side more with the group than with Buffy. Instead of going back to the vineyard with no plan to defeat Caleb, they should be getting more information. Buffy has more than proven herself as a good leader, but it is still ok to question her decisions. Anya said she didn't earn it, but everyone is all hellmouthy (like the cops), she always speaks what's on her mind, and she probably was referring to her slayer powers instead of her leadership skills anyway. I have no doubt that Buffy contributes to the house more than Dawn (because Dawn doesn't have a job), but I don't think Buffy pays for everything either. If Buffy is unwilling to hear other plans that don't involve going back to the vineyard immediately, than I think it is best that she take some time to recuperate. More and more ubervamps are gathering, but there are already too many to worry about. They have no reason to rush their plans besides fear and everything being all hellmouthy.

I've been excited for and dreading this reaction since the beginning of the season. I had a rage full day today so what's some more😮‍💨 At least based on the comments you seem to be on the right side of things, glad we (Buffy & I) could count on you🖤 Edit: After watching the reaction, YES to everything at the end, like they can all kick rocks. I wish Spike hadn't left, hell I feel even Andrew would have made more sense yet he barely knew her!

I am sitting here, at the end of the episode with my arms folded and bitch face going hard. This episode pisses me off so much. And don't get me started on Anya and "nobody came to you and said...". Bitch, A DEMON came to you and said you deserved power and YOU used it to slaughter people. Like WTF??? Ugh. Can we move on to the next one? Grrr Argggg

I can see both sides of this one too. The thing we have to remember is the kind of loss the girls suffered and witnessed at the vineyard is new to them. They don't get that this kind of thing happens, and is going to happen all the time now. To them, there has to be something better than that happening again, and since Buffy is the one they believe led them to those losses, the only way to avoid it is to take her off the throne. Add to that things like Buffy not remembering their names and doing things like saying Cloe was an idiot after she killed herself, and it feels like she doesn't care about them. They are cannon fodder. Hopelessness does horrible things to the mind. It rips people apart. On the flipside of that, Buffy's reactions make sense too. She said what she said about Cloe out of fear and anger at having lost a necessary asset, with the feeling of hopelessness setting in on her too. She lashed out. That's not normally how she acts. But the potentials, Wood, they don't know her well enough to really know that. Faith made it sound like Buffy doesn't remember their names because she doesn't care. She doesn't remember their names because they're showing up so fast and it's getting overwhelming. It seems impossible to get any more information, and doing nothing is only making things worse, so she rushed out to the vineyard with them without a great plan because there seemed to be no other option. They appear to be screwed, and doing something seemed better than not acting. It's just that to the others, it seemed like she was just being reckless or that she doesn't care about them. The argument and kicking Buffy out is hard to watch, but I love this episode. I think it's very well done, and extremely well set up. Now I can't wait for the next one.

This one and Dead Man's Party from S3 make my blood boil, lol. UGHGH.

Still in the middle of watching this one (skipped ahead to listen to your after-reaction thoughts), and I just wanted to add something. Even though I see both sides, that doesn't mean this episode doesn't piss me off. It still makes me mad watching it. Giles said Faith took the girls to The Bronze, and that he thought they could use the time off their studies. How many episodes ago was it he was yelling at everyone for going on dates? And now, when things are even worse, he thinks going out for a night of dancing, with a person in charge he knows can be reckless, is a good idea? Not to mention, he said decisions had to be made in Buffy's absence, as if she just ran off or something. She took as long as she did because Caleb knocked her out. Which she just told him. Yeah, I get it, but it still pisses me the hell off.

The worst. Kicking Buffy out of her own house after she’s save the world multiple times over is so shitty. I hate it so much

Love the shirt, Darcie! But hate this episode! I agree with you that it screams "plot device" , just to create more tension before the big finale. However, after many rewatches of this season, I find it helps for me to look at this episode through the lens of the larger themes of the show: Giles (Buffy's mind) is questioning her strategy. Willow (Buffy's spirit) can't support her judgement. Xander (Buffy's heart) is questioning her vision (sorry, had to ;)). And Anya? Honestly, her little "You didn't earn it" speech pissed me off the most (besides Dawn kicking Buffy out of her own house, grrr). But looking back on Buffy's therapy session with Webs the vamp in S7x07 "Conversations with Dead People", I can see the argument that Anya is representing Buffy's own conscience. Remember, in that episode Buffy said, 'I have all this power... I didn't earn it. I don't deserve it." I'm not saying this episode doesn't still piss me off. But if I look at it though this larger lens, it helps me get through it (and forgive Anya) a little more easily. And Dawn... hm, maybe she is letting "Ghost Joyce" get to her and she is allowing her fear that Buffy will turn against her guide her judgement here. But- well, I'm still mad at her.

To this day, this episode STILL pisses me off. And it makes me wish Dark Willow had turned Dawn back into a little energy ball, 'cause homegirl, that IS NOT your home. You've done nothing to contribute to it but CRY!

Ok, so I’m mostly on side “everyone who’s not Buffy” here, but I do think it could have been handled better, on both sides. Buffy’s trying to use the tactics (both battle and interpersonal) which have worked in the past. I think her battle tactics have worked because, honestly, the antagonists have been more or less playing the same game: villain wants thing and goes straight for it without much in the way of subtlety; even Dark Willow. Caleb is playing a very different game, which requires different tactics. On the interpersonal side, for 6 years Buffy’s been leading the Scoobies, which worked (in part) because they love her (and she them). The Potentials, in whole or in part, do not. And some actively dislike her to varying degrees. Buffy tried to rally the troops for an assault on a place which, to paraphrase Spike, has seen some truly amazing kickings of their collective asses…and with the same (read: no) plan as before. i think that would be a hard sell to /anyone/, but trying to sell it to a room full of people who either have little/no loyalty to you, were seriously and/or permanently injured on the first attempt, have recently betrayed you (hi, Giles; hey Robin)…that’s an uphill fight at best. Add to everything Buffy’s both tired and recently failed to deal with Caleb, so her temper may be a bit short and Xander’s in the room where everyone else can see him. She went into the room with a purpose and it understandably turned into a mob. I don’t know if a more delicate touch would’ve worked, but I understand why the opposite utterly failed. All that said, the writing of that scene felt a little off to me; they’ve been hinting at trouble in the ranks for a few episodes, but it felt to me as though it came to a head unrealistically fast. There were no doubt some time constraints at play, but the price paid for meeting them was what felt to me a rushed plot point.

You handled this as well as I did. Eff EVERYONE! (Especially the writers for making us deal with this noise.) And a special eff you to Anya for spectacularly forgetting all of the hard work and sacrifice Buffy has put in on a literal daily basis for over seven years. (I forgive Dawn mainly because I think the writers flubbed her character here.)

RNR

I totally side with Buffy here. | I feel like the only thing missing from her speech was "If you aren't willing to follow me, then you need to leave. If you think you can make your own way in this fight, then you can run off on your own and die like Cloe and [the blonde girl who tried to run and got vamp-killed]." Just as I thought she was about to say this (I've only seen this episode once before, like 3 years ago so I didn't remember what happens), Dawn kicked her outta the house. And I'm just sitting here like... y'all, Buffy's been doing this for 7 years. She didn't "earn" it as Anya said, but she sure as shit has earned her status now, after dying multiple times, averting how many apocalypses, stabbing her soulmate in the heart, and giving up her life, future, and dignity (Double Meat Palace) to be the Slayer. I get maybe the Potentials don't understand exactly what it is that makes Buffy deserving of a little trust here, but for gosh sakes, Giles, Willow, Xander, Dawn? Like God, does Dawn ever do anything besides throw a wrench in things?? Separate issue. But c'mon! TLDR; Yeah, writer's issue for sure. Way premature.
