Hey everyone! So, its time to pick the next tech tree! Your options are...

Snowpiercer (The Movie)

Small bits of small tech and advancement, but most of the focus would be on the trains engine, which is supposedly perpetual motion, which I would use to introduce low level ex-nihilo energy generation.

In Time

Immortality, small advancements in medicine

Grand Theft Auto

Small bits of weapons tech, a few vehicles, but most of the focus would have been on the Up-an-atomizer, a weapon in the game that Jackson would discover converts electricity directly into physical force

Ready Player One (The Movie)

The oasis, which is basically a flat out massive improvement with everything to do with the net, with the acception of cyberware

Just to keep out the confusion, this was intentionally looking for a branch that one or two interesting bits of tech, but nothing massive, and no wide spread advancements either.

Having such well developed VR systems will help transition into a post scarcity society, in my opinion. The time stuff from In Time seems like it's ripe for abuse.

Anthony Maxwell

What technology does snowpiercer or Grand theft Auto have that he doesn't already have a better version of??? As I don't remember any sci-fi technology in Grand theft Auto that I've played.

Fortunis

Ready Player One. The technology, if used right, could be used as a time dilated training and schooling tool. If not outright skill uploads. That'd lead to a more educated population in a world where education is literally stuck behind a pay wall.

Caelen Burrows

Seconded. For Snowpiercer I'm guessing sustainability tech which probably comes down to highly efficient recycling and distribution, but they can already turn anything into water and back into molecularly printed objects just shy of Star Trek replicator tech it seems. A couple examples or categories of what sorts of tech each setting represents would be appreciated if amenable.

Anthony Maxwell

In time I thought about voting for that but the way there immortality trick seems to work from what the trailer seems to hint at as I never watched the movie is there somehow taking it from other people. Which was a massive turn off. As why have the class system or limit people's lifespans to 25 years old if that wasn't the case?? As why not just let people live their natural lifespans and the Rich buy more time.

RegularReplacement

Ready Playerr One. They had The Oasis: Virtual Reality, Haptic Suits , Haptic Gloves, VR Goggles. Electric Cars with improved battery life, improved electric engines, aerial drones. Solar Power with improved batteries and improved solar cells. Likely AI since Holiday may have made an AI of himself to finish the game. So, a lot of little things, but the Oasis may be a big boon to the AIs that Jackson has. They'll be able to hang out in an environment that can give them a level of haptic feed back. Tie that into the Memory Chair from Fall out and you get Full Dive VR.

Anthony Maxwell

I feel like he's already got better versions of most of the stuff you just mentioned from previous tech trees. I feel like the real prize here is the virtual reality and nothing else and even then it's kind of underwhelming because cyberpunk already has pretty darn good virtual reality and player one just feels like it's not that far above it in quality.

Anthony Maxwell

These choices are really underwhelming to be honest and I was expecting Gundam to be amongst them as I alot quite a few comments for Gundam.

Robert Meta

Its basically a one to one allegory first wealth. From what I remember, most of the details are just handwaved away

Anthony Maxwell

I think it's obvious they're taking time away from other people somehow and selling it or storing it somehow and treating the working class as a resource in the movie.

Robert Meta

Snowpiercer would have some small bits, but the main draw would have been the trains engine, which is described as perpetual motion, and its open ended enough for me to just insert exnihilo energy source. GTA has some tech weapons that Jackson could pull some info from, and some vehicles too I think

RegularReplacement

True, but Jackson might be able to pull a bit of efficiency from the tech tree. There's another fan fic called 'With Sprinkles' in it a planeswalker Xander Harris is able to give ships from FireFly to Stargate Command. Since the ships were built human tech without the magic of Naquda it had to be built extremely efficient, and thus both the SCG and Asgard improved their tech efficiency. Not a huge paradigm shift, but useful none the less.

Anthony Maxwell

I'm unaware of anything in GTA that's sci-fi at all. As I played some of the games watch trailers about it and I've never seen anything sci-fi in GTA.

Jason Blood

He explicitly said he wanted the next tech tree to be underwhelming, with only one or two notable pieces of tech.

Anthony Maxwell

Has GTA as doesn't have any science fiction tech as far as I know to speak of.

Spart1n158

With the current ai issues I think the oasis makes the most sense

Heidao

I vote In Time BUT we do away with the time economy bullshit, since that was the leash the upper class use to maintain relevance. Part of his eventual post scarcity transhuman society, is to implement immortality, as one of the great filters in early space capable species, is the diaspora of the general populace as people scatter out into the galaxy. Major countries won't feel the populace loss but small ones could cease to be in a generation. One example is the manga Negima UQ Holder, Japan's countryside was becoming abandoned as the people moved to the space elevator being constructed and the mega city built around it.

Cryowolf72

Maybe In Time's immortality can be used in the tech tree after this upcoming one. Giving Jackson immortality will guarantee his path as a chronicler of science that he can pass on to humanity when they are ready.

Straven

I'm reading through the list, hit last one....instant win! Ready Player One!

KO. Dragon

Grand Theft Auto I’m surprised you didn’t pick the Saint Row that franchise has some crazy weapons especially the Dubstep Gun from Saints Row IV.

Gangrene Gout

The Oasis, or how to keep violent solos and rebellious runners occupied in Jackson's new world order. Now with the latest DLC, Rogue AI prison.

Brandon

It's not about taking time from people, I think. The way I see it is the found a way to make people immortal and that was the problem.

Brandon

As in stop biological aging as there didn't seem to be any old people. Time was how they kept the people under their (wealthy) control and enforced their ( wealthy) cast system and a way to control their (Poor) population. The time it self was artificial not biological. It also served as their currency and a countdown until self avada kedavra.

Brandon

At least that's my take on it.

Brandon

Especially if you take into account some of the mods out there

Brandon

It also has some good vr tech from the aliens, it would just need some modifications

Pearl of the Orient

Any good? And on what site? OOC tech depends on the writer so your mileage may vary

Pearl of the Orient

Population control and power. They discovered immortality while planet bound and in an increasingly resource starved planet. The made time the currency so they can control the Population

RegularReplacement

It's on Fanfiction (dot) net. Search google for With Sprinkles By: dogbertcarroll and you'll find it.

Anthony Maxwell

Mods don't count because if you're good enough you could mod anything into a game like Star wars or Stargate. As they could literally mod starships into the game from any franchise. as there not a natural part the fictional universe of GTA.

Feliprins

I mean... doesn't Cyberpunk pretty much already have a VR thing? It's just that due to rogue AI it is deadly, the technology already exists, so I don't see what Ready Player One would add to the fold, at least Sword Art Online has Quantum Light which is linked to souls but Ready Player One just has lower level variations of many techs already present in Cyberpunk or flat out worse than what Jackson already has due to other tech trees.
