Hey everyone! So, I have some general power and character ideas bouncing around inside my head, which I am struggling to attach to specific settings. So far, I'm looking for:

  • A fantasy setting where humans are on the low end of the totem pole. I would prefer settings where elves, dwarves, devils, or whatever species exist in the setting are just superior to humans in some or many ways, but i will also accept fantasy worlds where everything is out to kill humans, and we aren't doing so hot.

  • Post apocalypse stories that aren't Fallout. Basically a place were having access to food and water would lead to generational wealth... or being hunted to the ends of the Earth. Someplace with low to mid power level

  • A setting with magic, Chi, Chakra, qi or some sort of mystical power that comes from inside you, and where a farming story would be interesting.

I am also interested in hearing if you think the power dynamics from my other snippets or stories would work well in other settings. If you see your idea mentioned already, give it a heart and a comment that you agree and why.

The first one sounds a bit like the Highschool DxD universe

ng1353

Final fantasy 14 could be a fun option.

emahue64

try christopher paolinis inheritance series or lotr both are fantasy setting where humans are somewhat or a lot weaker than dwarves elves and such.

Jon Fiedler

For fantasy I recommend Lord of the Rings and for the Chakra Naruto

Robert Meta

This is why I posted this! The inheritance cycle is a good idea! LOTR might be too but im not deeply familiar with it

Robert Meta

it does, but I am really hesitant to write in a ero anime

Jlan

I feel like warhammer fantasy could be quite interesting if the company was dropped in lustria around the empire colonies perhaps

coldpyr0

It would be funny to see a farming story set in Naruto where the MC accidentally creates a hidden village of ninja farmers. All their techniques are related to taking care of crops or animals but are ridiculously effective when someone attacks them.

Post apocalyptic world could be The Last of Us part 1. You can skip part 2. Or Mad Max

Tim Meinert

As you should be. I wasn't endorsing it, just the first thing that popped into my head with that criteria other than a generic fantasy world.

Yunru

I like uplifts, what scale it may be on. Street level? Yes. Global? Yes.

Cmols897

I would love for you to do a Walking Dead story with maybe some other type of mutation element to it, a non-magic world needing to deal with both the apocalypse and random mutated powers could be interesting

GoodJobYou

For the first, what about Ravenloft? Though the other traditional races also struggle, they are all definitely at the low end of things. For the post apocalypse, there's MadMax, Waterworld. Special mention for Warframe. For the magic farming, the world of HarryPotter could totally use a fanfic that isn't about hogwarts directly.

Jlan

Also walking dead could be fun for the apocalypse scenario

David Gilbert

For the fantasy you could do world of warcraft early in the time line or even still modern for it because they are still pretty low in comparison of the other races there are just ALOT of human in modern compared to the other races

andrew rousseau

Perhaps baldurs gate? 1,2, or 3? Or maybe one of the old school dragon age Dragon age origins was absoulutly epic

Koren Tiquar

You could learn a lot about LOTR just by watching the movies, so that is an easy fix.

For Fantasy: Warhammer Fantasy or Age of Sigmar, For post apocalypse: X-com Apocalypse (since I know you like x-com) or maybe Resident Evil. For Farming with Chi: Naruto or maybe The Last Airbender.

MultiverseCosms

Not a fan of superiority myself, but I grew up in the 80s when every Elf!Simp tried to stat out 'realistic' elves with +6 or more to all stats and got shirty when the DM said 'no'. As for post apoc, magical post apoc like Mistborn or King's Dark Tower could work. Not up on a lot of ki stories other than the dreaded DxD.

Funny thing is the LN isn't bad. Anime does the usual exaggeration. (No, boosting does not do... that.). Issei is one of the better perverted leads in general.

The Chi one I would say Avatar Universe would be good, but I feel like it is a fairly small world, so maybe use another era like the one of Avatar Wang for it? Spirit World Shenanigans and what not...___ the humans at the bottom of the food chain would likely be Azeroth during the Age of Vrykul, with Dragons, Elven Mages, Dwarves and Gnomes with Technology and Trolls with endless numbers while humans are just some outcasts laying on the corner of a continent. ___ Post Apocalypse one I would have to ask how hard you want it to be, it could be Skynet/Matrix world where humanity is hunted down, Left4Dead or many others for zombie Apocalypse, or you could go for an even bigger world and go for Warhammer 25k before the great Crusade where the Dark Night is still going on with endless techno barbarians in a planet which is undergoing ecological collapse

In my head qi + farming = Beware of Chicken.

emahue64

I'm glad. there's really not enough eragon fanfics out there

I'd know many do like fallout. But I've always loved the Metro series more. Could populate the wasteland with the normal races + whatever radioactive abomination would show up. Could possibly have Dwarves at the top of the food chain? Some types of magic, old broken down tech and steampunk is one of my favourites. Could probably have the dwarves at the top since almost everything is underground now. Elves and humans doing poorly due to the lack of nature and daylight. Maybe the elves get a little twisted from how broken nature have become. Or the opposite. Gate to another world from the Metro universe (nuke + psychic powers = tear in reality or something, idk), having post apocalyptic survivors flee over to a world that have never seen a human before. Maybe the earth monsters also slip past the boundary between worlds?

I think terminator would be a good post apocalypse world, would give a lot of good robot salvage.

I don't know if you would call it an apocalypse esc story, but i think the game Space Pirates and Zombies would make for a pretty interesting setting for a story. Mankind is divided by systems and the resources needed to cross those boundaries comes from a dark entity that turns ships and people into zombies. You and a plucky crew of irreverent whack jobs work to reach the center of the galaxy to claim the motherload while pirates, local governments, and other treasure hunts do the same, good luck and good hunting.

C Dos

May sound odd but for a fantasy one maybe Game of Thrones during the Long Night. Maybe The Legend of the Condor Heroes for something different. For game post apocalypse settings maybe Half-life or Bastion?

PantherTheory

For fantasy I would definitely say lord of the rings since its super easy to research and there is a rather vast timeline you can play with if you don't want to touch on canon too much. You could also do a Skyrim where the nords have just landed in Skyrim and are largely at the mercy of the Snow Elves and Dwemer. For post apoc I would suggest The last of Us, both games were great I don't get why people are so negative about the second one. Another post apoc rec would be Phoenix Point, it's a great game made by some of the people who made Xcom, it's fully post apocalyptic with interesting evolving enemies three to four interesting factions with massively different tech and world views, you could very well take over the 4th faction yourself (the Phoenix project). As for a Qi/magic world I am of two minds here, On one hand I think introducing qi to Harry Potter and farming superior "magic herbs" would be both funny and interesting especially since you could have the MC not be a mage, just someone who inherits a farm and finds the peace and quiet great for his/her meditation and discovers qi, completely blowing the magical communities preconceptions away. On the other hand I think it would be interesting to introduce Qi and cultivation to a modern world, I haven't really seen much of that and what I have seen wasn't done well, you could also spice it up a bit by doing it in Marvel, maybe a farm next to Hawkeyes family? with the MC focussed on farming and their newly discovered cultivation but also being slowly drawn into Avengers stuff (kicking and screaming of course) as a reliable but reluctant ally? Anyway that's my two cents.

James Lambert

I like the Dragon Age idea maybe with the beat up up power steal you were doing in the MHA story you sampled.

Scurrystopthat

Here's a rough idea. Do elder scrolls but the revolution agasint the ayelids failed (the super powerful elfs who pelonel whiteastrake was sent to fight and Slaughter) and the rebellion agasint the world eater failed. Tldr what if the heros of elder scrolls history just didn't appear and whatever mc shows up has to deal with all the problems that entails.

Jlan

Walking dead would be good because he could find a bunch of non radiated seeds and such that should be workable in the fallout setting with some effort. Would give him massive leverage within the capital wasteland if he had access to rad free crops

Cryowolf72

My friend and I love the Inheritance Cycle by Paolini. We even spent months thinking up an isekai scenario where we reincarnated with magic from Pathfinder2e. We had everything planned out, from what we were allowed to change in the story and their consequences, to what were the rules and limitations of using Pathfinder2e magic in a world of Ancient Language. It was a fun idea, but unfortunately neither of us are good enough writers.

sailor sloth

Eragon, waterworld, maybe atla?

Thomas Laptain

I want to second the suggestions for Warhammer Fantasy.

Pearl of the Orient
