Flaming Olive

For the Oddtaxi shot that Yam points out as having bad credits, there was a moment in the associated Mother's Basement video which always stuck with me where he talks about the story reasons he infers about whose faces do and don't get covered up by credits/for how long. I could see contesting that rebuttal though because I wouldn't be fully confident in saying his claim there tracks with how things actually end up.

dollqueen

I was stoked for Millionare Detective to make it bc the OP & ED are so GOOD

SonicPsycho

Cant believe asta took note from zoros post time skip design

Incorporeal

Bummed it wasn't higher but I'm thrilled to see Serial Experiments Lain get some spotlight. BECAUSE IT WAS ME. I WAS THE ONE WHO SAW IT AT TWO IN THE MORNING WHEN I WAS ELEVEN. AND YES, IT DID EXACTLY WHAT YOU SAID. I honestly struggle to enjoy anime as an adult because my tastes were defined by the style/tone of darker, grimier, experimental stuff of the late 90's and early 2000's like Lain, Ergo Proxy, Boogiepop Pantom, etc. which has completely gone extinct as you said. I sometimes wish I got into anime through Adult Swim or Toonami like everyone else, because nothing has hit quite the same as Tech TV's late-night anime block. I'd HIGHLY recommend Serial Experiments: Lain. It's so unsettlingly weird.

Vinland Saga is one of the greatest manga I have read in 16 odd years and I would be THRILLED if you did a book club on it. It’s from the author of Planetes and so many parts of this anime and manga fuck me up like nothing else

T1ggles

Also it’s Season 2 OP are amazing and everyone who dropped off because it wasn’t edgey enough doesn’t DESERVE it

Icemage11

I’m so glad you guys talked about how good Gotcha is cause no one ever talks about it for some reason

Chandler B

I like the second spy family op; that’s a bump of chicken

Chandler B

Also Specialz has grown on me so much and I hate it

Cosmignon

I subscribed to, at the very least, see yall gush even more as the list goes on and I'm not disappointed 😎 Digimon Frontier was one of the first anime i ever watched, on jetix of course, & maybe one of the first times I understood "episodes can be aired in sequence to tell a story" so I've always had a huuuuuge nostalgic soft spot for it. I'm glad it got into your list, and pretty high all things considered! The fact it had to be totally recut for the english opening and looks as good as it does is awesome!! also as a last note, obsessed w/wa moon des cry. that song credit is great!! I appreciate being brought into the world of Appreciating the art of good credits more, graphic design isn't my passion but I do dabble

Vic Cutting

Good list yayyyyyy I might make my own list tbh since I love the criteria but respectfully disagree on a few absentee sooo yay:3 good list

pictrable

the recent "witch watch" op is done by the same studio as one piece op 26 and like, it's kind of the same opening functionally but god they just make the most gorgeous stuff

K. Verklärung

Yall going hard for Kageki Shōjo speaks volumes and moves mountains for me

I've spent a while thinking about the Comi Can't Communicate OP, and I think the water is supposed to represent anxiety. Like, we see her in that ocean, and she's isolating herself on that chair cuz she's afraid of something bad happened from trying to socialize, she's afraid of getting wet. Then we see the main boy, and he's already wading in the water to get to her cuz he's already dealing with that anxiety, cuz everyone just hates him for no reason. Then everyone's having fun, splashing around, and she finally says "fuck it" and jumps in, but oh no! The hose sprayed everywhere! she was afraid of this, she did get wet, but it's okay! Her friends are there, and they start having fun again, and she smil cuz it was worth it. "She's not afraid anymore! Hooray!" I dunno, I can see what they were going for, even if it wasn't communicated the best.
