I've been sick for the better part of a week and as per usual I'm not healing, so what better way to kill time than watching the very few major animated films I haven't seen yet and then probably bulk-reviewing them on Patreon!

Of course, not all of these movies are bad. But I know you people. You always pick the bad ones.

You can vote for as many as you want.

You should pick the good ones.

Do it. You won't.

Comments

Hamyton

I don’t know what the alpha and omega movies are, but I will vote for them because the font is funny

Bethany Wade

Jokes on you, because you haven’t seen KDH that’s 1000% winning considering your audience

J Miller

More people need to know that Memoir of a Snail exists

B-beau

I gotchu jello i only picked the worst ones. And The House witch I actually like

Folkloric

The Adventures of Tintin has its problems, but the opening credits are awesome, and there are a handful of scene transitions that fucking rule.

Ryan Leenay

Dangonronpa animation should be on here.

Incorporeal

It's too bad Satoshi Kon will never win one of these polls.

WildWolf

I mean jello if you don’t want to watch the smurfs movies you don’t have to add them

MJ Damsen

The Day The Earth Blew Up is SUCH an excellent sick movie. Even if it doesn’t beat the poll, I hope you get to watch it anyways. Nothing more comforting when you’re full of goo than some goofy saturday morning cartoons.

alexander moore

Satoshi Kon is soo good!! Sad to see it losing

dollqueen

I remember liking that Tintin movie when it came out but that was 14 years ago & I've forgotten most of it

Lemon Moon

I know the day the earth blew up won’t win but I want it to

DJ Kuroto

I mean hey, if you get all those smurfs out of the way now you won't have to engage with them for another 6 years at least

JelloApocalypse

Nooooo, every time people vote for me to watch The Popular Contemporary Thing Everyone Likes I always end up giving it a 7/10 and people get mad at me nooooooo

Ryan Leenay

That or the dangonronpa 3 animation so he knows what characters he is dealing with spiolers be damed.

Jurei

You’re not watching Parade if Satoshi kon wins? I love that film.

Crimson Claw

I voted for some good ones! Or just okay with the Disney stuff

Hamyton

You know what, fair

JelloApocalypse

I don't know what that is and nothing comes up if you search "Parade Satoshi Kon"

JelloApocalypse

I cannot believe how often they reboot the Smurfs. Who is out here dying for Smurfs content.

Meg Ryan

K-POP DEMON HUNTERS IS THE goat of animated movies! Awesome story, incredible animation and a BANGER SOUNDTRACK AND been #1 for months and got a sing along version on netflix added the other day!

RandomRedheadRi

Personally I loved K-Pop demon hunters! But honestly I feel like Jello would start out really liking the beginning of the movie as a girl-power action "we sing and do our nails while kicking demon ass" film, and then gradually lose interest the more and more it dives into typical rom-com territory

JelloApocalypse

I can usually tell when an animated movie will grab me and KPDH does not feel like it has that special sauce. But maybe I'll be wrong!

Folkloric

I'm calling it now: there are a few scenes throughout Kpop: Demon Hunters where it emphasizes how much the K-Pop stars love their fans, and I'm betting Jello would *hate* how its framed.

DWC

Satoshi Kon's movies are considered bad animated movies?

Jurei

I’m a moron, ngl I haven’t seen Paprika since I was like young young and for like my whole life thought it was called Parade for some reason???

Kruh-Daze

Jello did a whole audio thing on Kon’s movies a year or two ago. He had some thoughts.

DWC

Oh, which one was that under?

Incorporeal

Kruh-Daze, that was Makoto Shinkai, not Satoshi Kon.

AceTrainerHope

The Wild Robot was genuinely my favorite movie of 2024 and I haven't seen anything else on this list 😂

Bonnford

You need good movies while you're sick, my man. Here's hoping something fun wins!

DragonRageLee

Any chance u’ll review more live action movies in the future, Jello? I know its ur thing, but i just enjoy hearing u talk about media rather than just coming to u for animation recommendations. Like i’d rather u get to watch something good and not alpha and omega lol. Obviously tho its ur channel, im just curious. Thanks for always making such great content!

Bonnford

I think he means that some of the movies on the poll are good and some are bad

Bonnford

Parade is one of the song titles on the ost, maybe that's where you got mixed up?

Hamyton

Side note just remember what these movies where and I am sorry… still going to keep my vote on it tho

Jurei

Most likely

Incorporeal

What shall it be Jello? Suffer through the cacophony of angry fans that are way too attached to The Popular Contemporary Thing Everyone Likes, or review something old and interesting that the Youths have never heard of and suffer the sting of minimal engagement? Choose your fate!

DJ Kuroto

I mean, I'd SAY the belgians, but they can't even convince the world that one of their number made OFF to this very day...

Stephen von Schulmann

The writing has a lot of Netflix-isms and the liar revealed plotpoint is some of the worst I've seen since A Bug's Life. The songs are pretty good, and the character animation is endearing at times, but the movie itself has nothing to come back for.

K POP DEMON HUNTER SPOILERS: As soon as I finished K-Pop Demon Hunters, my first thought (which was admittedly inspired by Jenny Nicholson's videos on similar subjects for different franchises) was that every little girl who watches this is going to be begging their parents for a set of Huntrix dolls. Each member is visually distinct (Mira is slightly taller with pink hair and an angular face, Zoey is slightly shorter with dark hair and a round face, Rumi has purple hair and DEMON MARKINGS), so kids are going to want all three of them. They could be sold with doll-sized versions of their weapons made of glow-in-the-dark plastic, and doll clothes based on the various outfits they wear throughout the film! The insane popularity of Frozen proved that little girls love a doll with ANGST, and Rumi has plenty of that to spare (You too can reenact the scene of Rumi swinging in midair from a hoop by tying her to your ceiling fan!). If sales did well, they could release outfits inspired by previous eras of hunters, slightly more expensive versions of the dolls that sing songs from the soundtrack when you press a button on them, and a Jinu doll for Rumi to fight AND kiss! This could be an entire toy franchise, and it's insane that Netflix isn't taking advantage of it!

Luveygold

I've been meaning to watch Legend of Hei so people should vote for that so I have an excuse to sit down and watch it

SPOILERS for K POP DEMON HUNTERS: I really liked K-Pop Demon Hunters! It has a lot of visual influences from Spider-Verse, but takes inspiration from K-Dramas and anime (but not in an ugly-looking RWBY way) instead of comics. However, it does have the Turning Red/Luca/Encanto plot element of a mother figure whose actions are harming their child that's been done a few times at this point though. I'd say it does a better job, but the mom figure is... barely in the movie? It definitely feels like a lot of things had to be cut for time and I wish we had been given multiple films to explore it. Some people were weirded out by the exaggerated expressions that the main girls make, but I really liked them! LET GIRLS LOOK SILLY! Also one of the villain's henchmen is voiced by Sungwon Cho.

Fan Trades

Rihanna voices Smurfette in one of them. (*INSERT "ZENDAYA IS MEECHEE" MEME HERE*). I dunno. Much like Looney Tunes and Rankin-Bass films, I feel like The Smurfs is one of those franchises that pop culture as a whole moved on from a while ago and is long past its prime. They're clearly being written for a very young audience, but everyone who would have nostalgia for this property from when it was actually popular is far too old to have children within the age demographic. I would like to say that they're trying to get grandparents to show this to their grandchildren, but if that's the case, why does it star celebrities that they wouldn't recognize? We're living in a very unusual time right now for media, because pop culture in the way we experience it today really only began to exist in the 1950s, when it became more affordable for people to own a television in their homes. It's not like there wasn't media that was popular, but the culture around it was very different and restricted to people with the means to access it. That was seventy years ago, so the first generation to experience nostalgia for pop culture is the one we are currently in the process of losing, and big-budget producers don't realize that yet. They're functioning under the impression that everything that has ever been popular will always have an audience, but soon, for the first time in modern history, there will be an entire era of media that was once mainstream with a literally dead fanbase.

Crystal

I really liked K-Pop Demon Hunters. The plot's super predictable, but the pace is breakneck and the songs are all really good in two (2) ways: they're all banger pop songs *and* serve to move the plot forward the same way a more standard musical number would. The choreography (referring to both dance and fight) is also top notch. It's a pity Satoshi Kon has no chance of winning, I'm a big fan of Perfect Blue.

J Miller

He mixed in some good ones too. Memoir of a Snail was fantastic and most people have never heard of it.

Finn Underwood

As much as I think you should watch Memoir of a Snail... I also want you to suffer through Wish as it's so fascinatingly bad. It's the single most soul-less corporate product of a film I have ever seen. It's honestly impressive how nothing it is.

DWC

Ah yes, I see now that I skipped over the line about not all of them being bad. Egg upon my face indeed.

MonsterGF

Too bad the legend of Hei has 0 chance of winning as it has one the cutest/most visually interesting art styles I've seen, I adore the big eyed black cat with no facial features and how all the characters have thick outlines with soft colors. Kind of a side tangent here but The same studio animates one of my favorite underrated anime, a short wholesome comedy series called All Saints Street about a group of momsters living in a modern day apartment in China. It's very cute and usually funny on purpose but also the world building makes me laugh as the characters all have different nationalities on top of being different monsters with the idea being some monsters are from certain parts of the world, which is fine for like, most vampires are from England, most Werewolves are from Russia, Unicorns are from Sweden ECT, but gets funny when they're like yeah demons all come from Hell (Australia) and Angels are from Heaven (Canada). Fair picks though I guess.

PurpleIsDebeste

I didnt vote for the smurfs movies but if it does win you should try to watch them with aloha in call Y’know, so he can evaluate which of the smurfs can and cannot “get it”

Mora Meep

Noooo. C'mon have Jello watch Watership Down! The movie is so baller! The VA is a lil rough at times but the animation and realism, is on point and so poignant ;n; .

Mora Meep

My pitch for The House and why we should watch it with Jello. "Some of the eeriest and best use of stop-motion horror. The first story is genuinely eerie and the visuals are amazing. The second half we get to enjoy Jello doing solid critiques on some middling quality storytelling that doesn't stick the landing as well as the first."

Kaleiope Studio

Yes, Watership Down is so good, the animation and the music and John Hurt! The Netflix series kinda sucked though

Eremiss

Alright, you won me over. I'll vote for it!

SonicPsycho

Oh wow did we actually select good options?

Enshuu

I see the options listed for Satoshi Kon, but I'd recommend Millennium Actress and Tokyo Godfathers first if you haven't seen them.

Bran Garbaj

Did you ever talk about/review the first Bad Guys movie? I tried searching your posts but I only found this and a bunch of unrelated things

Mebe_Chloe

Ooh I've been meaning to watch Legend of Hui! I've been on a real Chinese animation kick, and Ne Zha 1 & 2 are two other Chinese films recently getting a lot of buzz, (NeZha 2 is now the highest grossing animated film ever) in case if you want another recommendation.

Mora Meep

Hell yeah. Another soul to the fold.

Mora Meep

Yes, OG 1978 Watership Down ONLY. The other renditions of it look like they need to be put out of their misery with a rock.

Kaleiope Studio

I watch the bbc cartoon once every few years, It's not perfect but it has some cute moments. and a pretty good voice cast. The redesigns and recasts in the third season though....yikes

tumbleweed🍂

Come on guys, don't you want to see Jello's Wallace and Gromit Hot Takes

tumbleweed🍂

Tokyo Godfathers is my favorite christmas movie! (Not counting any Rankin Bass productions)

Zirchona

I know it won't win because it's a good movie, but do make a point of seeing Paprika eventually, it's an incredible movie and I think you'll really enjoy it.

PurpleIsDebeste

oh god i thought alpha and omega was here as a joke i didnt realise it wasn’t the open season series you’ve already watched… my condolences

Mora Meep

Yeahhhh I could understand it being more "child friendly" but I don't think the story should compromise for pearl-clutchers? It's a story about religion among animals with all of the baggage and the mysticism, the beauty and brutality of nature and how rabbits are bottom of the food-chain, and a battle against fascism. Making them cute lil cartoon bunnies with big eyes and more marketable shapes instead of the more realistic ones in the 1978 movie turned me off so much from looking at other content from it the same as the bad CGI version. The 1978 Watership is elevated by those beautiful watercolors and the gorgeous orchestral score for sure. But I get that...some kids might have nostalgia for the old BBC style cartoons that came out in the 2000's(?).

Mora Meep

Looks like Kpop demon-hunters is gonna end up winning. The only part of that I can see Jello liking is the derpy tiger. Maybe one of the songs.

SinfulSloth

Jello, it's never too late to just watch the ones with the least votes instead. It still probably counts as democracy

GuidingLark

I didn't know there was a chicken run 2

KJKeener

I voted for Alpha and Omega cause I watched them and others should understand my pain.

Flakops

voting for memoir of a snail even though I know it has a 0% chance of winning (it’s very good)

dollqueen

It's titled Animated Movie Reviews [Batch 1] & listed under Jello Reviews. That being said his reviews on good movies are usually short

Bran Garbaj

Appreciate it (I've definitely listened to that before cause I remeber his Rango hatred and Rattlesnake love)

pictrable

kinda sad legend of hei got so little votes it’s one of the best movies listed

Probably An Owl

The House is such an odd anthology. Worth checking out not mind blowing but theres at least something in each of the three shorts that stuck with me

Kruh-Daze

Ah, you are correct. My bad.
