A review of the manga "Komi Can't Communicate"

KOMI CAN'T COMMUNICATE - 6.5/10

If you like...

Romcoms

Anime archetypes instead of real characters

Large supporting casts

Main characters who actually talk to each other

Relationships that should definitely be polyamorous but aren't

...then you might like this manga!

This manga is getting an anime adaptation soon, plus I think it's wrapping up. I've been reading it for the last few years so here is my milquetoast take on it!

It’s been 2 years since this review, and the manga still hasn’t ended.

i watched through the anime when the dub came out, and then watched season 2, and the disappointment i felt seeing the stupid edgy dragon girl go from "interesting pathetic charming loser" to "fights with the yandere so they can be bad characters together" is immeasurable

Listening to this makes me think you might like Ogami Tsumiki to Kinichijou. It's got similar vibes to early Komi Can't Communicate, but it doesn't have way too many side characters. It also has some good worldbuilding. Its whole "monster-people exist and are integrated into society" thing isn't just an excuse to have one of the leads be a kemonomimi (though that is definitely part of it), there's also stuff like what kinds of accommodations are made for the monster-people, and places where accommodations are not made or not good.

The "nobody:" format flopped so the "pov:" format could burn in hell

I know this is years old now, but listening to this I feel pretty confident you would really like You and I Are Polar Opposites, based on how you talk about the good parts of Komi. It's an extremely cute romance manga where the main couple gets together in the first chapter, would highly recommend giving it a read

Kaija

It's right that Ogami Tsumiki to Kinichijou is a good Komi-like. It's pure feel good and the characters feel very "lifelike", even the secondary ones.

28:50: The Joke isn't about the handholding, but about the ridiculousness of how some japanese author (far too much japanese author, in fact) are writting teenagers as if they were victorians puritans. It's making fun of this puritanism in romance were aaaaaaaaaaaanything that's even remotely linked to love is treated like a big steps. Worst when the story end when they finally confess, as if love was just the journey until you reach confession, and not... Experiencing relationship in a couple. So, I would say the "Handholding ?! How leeeeewd !" is a joke to make fun of coward romance authors that refuse to acknowledge romance don't end at the confession, and that you don't have to treat any contact of romantic move as if it was big taboo.

As much as I like the manga I agree that there are a more than a few characters I just don't like...really hate that creepy stalker.

If you are still taking recommendations for stuff to watch/play, then i'll recommend watching Oban Star-Racers. Even if it doesn't look like something for you, i'll still suggest that you watch the first episode (it's different from the rest)

can't wait for jello reviews my immortal

honestly listening to jello talk abt the rat and the shit cheese comes dangerously close to convos ive had with friends about what it's like as a rwby fan tcfvygbuhnij

JelloApocalypse

The fact that they had the beautiful endgame with the three characters settling their crushes and then followed it with a "BUT WHAT DOES THE YANDERE THINK ABOUT THIS EPILOGUE" is maybe the best example of this manga having no idea what I want from it.

The Ferret

Man I'm late to listening to this. I tried Komi but it didn't grab me and knowing it's 300 chapters I'm kinda glad. I have low tolerance for bullshit and padding, but glad the love triangle and fluff made it sorta worth it.

I'd like to see a list that splits Komi's friends between "Good Friends" and "Bad Friends". And then there's the "Not Her Friend" section reserved exclusively for that Yandere chick.
