Character Story: Poppy (Patreon)

Poppy, a cat♀, 23 years old. 

Height: 5'6'' (170 cm).

In the past Maria and Poppy’s parents worked a lot and Poppy often had to look after her younger sister. Often she went too far in her care for Maria, becoming harsh and over-controlling. But in reality, little Poppy didn't get enough attention for herself as, unlike Maria, who Poppy took care of, no one took care of Poppy the same way. And even though over time, her father found a decent job and her mother could finally devote herself to caring for the kids, the period where Poppy needed that most, has already passed.

Unlike her classmates, Poppy knew early who she will be when she grows up, as she had a unique talent - her beautiful purring voice. After finishing highschool, she traveled to the city every weekend for auditions, hoping to join some pop group. However producers kept refusing her, and, all as one, kept saying that her gaze is “too intense” and makes her look a lot older. Which is why Poppy decided that she doesn't need all those “cringy pop groups” with their “pseudo-unique soloists” and “cretinous producers who know nothing of taste and style”, and returned to her village where she found a job at the church choir. It seems that she made the right decision, since here she has her sister, her family, fresh air, singing birds and murmuring rivers - or in other words, her real home.

I actually decided to make Poppy and Isaac (player character) the same breed, by complete accident. And they are different in a few key ways. But I didn't change it because I liked it 💕

I didn't think too long about the rest of her image; it just came to me on its own when I was thinking about the character. Her style can be called both provo<cat>ive and at the same time simple, rural. But, of course, she dresses completely differently for church!

I picked the color palette for the character on https://color.adobe.com/explore and adjusted it a bit, so in the end, it looks like this:

I really like Poppy. She's bold, but deep down, very gentle, like any cat.
