Well, we did it… and it wasn’t intentional either… a podcast over 3 hours! 🤣 I’m telling you, each time I sit down to record one of these shows I truly think there’s just not enough to sink my teeth in that I’ll even go over 2 hours… yet somehow someway we smash through that!

Though, I think the extended movie discussion on Only Yesterday might’ve played a bit of a role in just how deep I could get into a subject. But since it was our first ever movie club selection, I felt I wanted to dissect my favorite moments and showcase just why it’s such a beloved film of mine.

When I played MGS V, I wasn't sure what to expect. I had played every other game in the series and was really into the lore of the series. I really enjoyed it in spite of its very sparse story and my being actively annoyed because I missed David Hayter. I always enjoy the mind fuck that Kojima provides in the ending. Your review of Columbus made me think about my Dad who died when I was 16. I didn't feel super connected to him but I see the way that he tried to love me. When I want to watch something that makes me think about my relationship with him, I like to watch an episode of Star Trek Deep Space Nine called "The Visitor", it's very touching. It makes me ugly cry though. Looking forward to the next podcast.

Holy Gentle! Yet another incredible installment of the podcast!! I absolutely loved the topic cause I still am always thinking about the decisions made in my life and that I’ve made and where that has led me! More so out of curiosity or intrigue rather than regret. ✨ As for the spooky rambles and butt play, Halloween is by far my favorite time of year 🎃. I love the weather and the spooky vibe and just everything about it! So personally would be down for it, however you do make a fair point that it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Not everyone may like the spooky vibes, and especially if the plan is for the scripts to be spooky, then it may be beneficial to have a few “normal” audios. But either way, I’m gonna love it! And oh Animal Crossing. My poor island is probably covered in roaches 😅. I got it around that Covid time as well and fell in love with it! It was a daily play for me, and I got pretty far on my first island. And then I don’t know what came over me, and I restarted. And then I just grew impatient to catch all the bugs and fish again and just pay off the house and what not. But I definitely wanna get back into it, and I would definitely love to see your island once you’re happy with it! I’m curious though, who’s your favorite villager? Mine is Wolfgang! As for this new movie segment, I LOVE it 🩵!! Especially since I actually watched the movie beforehand. But it was fun seeing the way you interpreted the scenes and what they meant for you, and got me thinking about the scenes differently as well. I would definitely love to see this segment continued in the future cause as you mentioned, you don’t let down with your recommendations. 😁

I absolutely adore this podcast’s theme/topic! 🦋 I could go on and on and ON about it, whether that be in relation to my own life with concrete examples, or in a more hypothetical, generalized way (this gets my wheels turning as a psychology student hardcore LOL, reminds me a bit of the nature vs. nurture argument that’s a huge thing in the field— spoiler alert, 99% of the time it’s both, and they interact a lot!). You really hit the nail on the head when you were talking about looking back at your own life and the people who influenced it 😭 and the thing is, the butterfly effect is, essentially, infinite— the events in your life have a butterfly effect, but the reason the events played out like they did is because of the events in other people’s life’s having a butterfly effect in their behaviour, and so on 🦋 And to answer your question regarding spooky rambles— I’ll admit, I’m curious as to how you’d make them spooky, but I do think it’d be nice to have the option of hearing something that isn’t spooky-related among the other spooky audios you’ll be making, like a way to provide a break and some variety! As for indie Switch game recommendations, I’ve got a couple, and I’ll try to keep this brief because I could talk about them a ton 😅 but the first one is Coffee Talk by Toge Productions. It’s more of a visual novel, though it uses its unique concept to explore very human topics and experiences, even though you’re just the owner of a cafe listening to people’s stories! Masterful in its simplicity in gameplay and concept while exploring complex themes My second game recommendation is one you might’ve heard of, which is Celeste by Maddy Makes Games Inc. & Extremely OK Games. It’s a (decently difficult) 2D platformer that explores topics of mental health through the story of a girl climbing a mountain. And believe it or not, it’s pretty accessible because it has an “assist mode” where you can toggle the individual gameplay elements that make the game harder, which you can adjust at anytime! I’ll bet your Animal Crossing island looks great!! I’d love to see it sometime if you get to a point that you’re comfortable doing so 🥺 and I need to clean up my flower beach (long story LOL) but… if I can clean mine up a bit I’d be down to share it here on the patreon (like my island’s dream address or something) if anyone wants to see it 👉🏻👈🏻 I’m overall really proud of it! Thank you for answering my questions!! It’s funny, my family had more of a “neighborhood cat” when we first moved to our home, and he just so happened to also be an orange tabby! And that dog Lettie/Leticia (sorry if I spelled it wrong) sounds like she was an absolute joy, even if she liked breaking the rules regarding the couch 😆 What a coincidence that you’re planning a camping script! I was just curious if you liked it since I was reminiscing a bit on the times my family went camping when I was a kid— though we stayed at a campground, so it wasn’t like we were roughing it in the woods! I’m actually kinda surprised to hear you haven’t gone all that much, but then again I think I just live in an area where a lot of people do it 😅 And I hope my NSFW question wasn’t too invasive!! I personally have a really hard time climaxing on demand (and I’m on some meds that make it even more difficult), so it was something I always sort of wondered about logistically 😆😅 just because, well… sometimes your body doesn’t wanna cooperate and do what you need it to do, y’know? As for Only Yesterday… I can see why it’s your favourite Studio Ghibli movie, it’s absolutely wonderful! It’s kinda funny, the premise of going to the countryside is the same one used in a lot of farming sims (y’know, like Harvest Moon, Story of Seasons, and Stardew Valley), so watching the movie reminded me of when I’d play Harvest Moon as a kid 😆 and besides that, it felt like the movie portrayed the feeling of childhood so well, and I saw a lot of my childhood self in young Taeko. Something about the way they portray the past, what they focus on, it all just felt very real, like I was truly watching someone’s childhood memories. Watching the movie reminded me of my own childhood and overall lived experience— feeling like a black sheep of the family and like everyone is making decisions in your life FOR you, like you don’t have any actual agency over any of it, but also some of the facts of childhood, like the fantastical, imaginative moments, the particular social dynamics between you and your peers at the time, and how you generally perceive the world. I also really liked hearing your interpretation of it all, because I’m someone that needs to watch things multiple times to really get into the nitty-gritty of it all— for the first watchthrough, I’m largely just taking in the events and not doing deeper analysis of the artistry behind them yet. But now I see just how deep the meanings of every little detail goes, and I realize just how intricate the movie really is. It’s beautiful, and I’ll certainly be watching it again! 👏🏻 (As an aside sort of related to Only Yesterday— you don’t have to respond, but I just want to extend some compassion your way regarding what you said about how your dad treated you as a kid. I was never beat besides being spanked like once or twice, so I don’t really know what that’s like, but it’s just… wrong. And I’m sorry you had to go through that. And I wish there was more I could say but there isn’t, really. It never should have happened, and you didn’t deserve it. However, I do emphasize with the distant relationship you mentioned as you talked about the movie Columbus, and I extend some compassion regarding that, too… it can make those relationships feel really strange and even off-putting. Also, it’s very late at this point, and it never felt appropriate to say since I only started listening to your content earlier this year— long after this happened —but my condolences for your dad’s passing. It sounds like it was a really rough time, and I hope you’re doing a lot better these days 💕)

I haaaaate the heat! Could be the 'tism and the temperature sensitivity. I'm in FL so ugh. Super glad your health is going well!! I wish I had your discipline for exercise. I eat pretty well but still have like zero energy after work at the end of the day. Meh. Wtf apple... this is why I'm an android girl. They make plenty of money but just keep finding more ways to gouge people. *grr* I looooove October! However, not much into the scary stuff. Cute spoopy? YES. Am also a big fan of supernatural 🤩 (especially vampires~). I like the idea of a themed month! The Butterfly Effect is such a mind-blowing concept but it's really fun to think about~ That whole unlearning shit from childhood is REAL. I'm finding that no matter how much I try to let go of certain things, they still bother me, even influencing dreams/nightmares. It really is difficult not to resent the reason(s) for those things... I haven't seen that Gibli movie but it sounds good. And WAAAYYYY too relatable 🫠....also THANK YOU FOR PRONOUNCING GIF CORRECTLY 😆

GentleGeek's Geek Squad

I can imagine that the combination of the heat and the humidity makes it just that much more tough to survive in FL! You have my sympathies, but hey... at least the beach isn't too far off, yeah? 🏖️ And haha, what can I say? I've always enjoyed being a bit sporty so it's a bit easier on my end to enjoy working out, though, I know it's not the same for lots of folks. But hey, I definitely feel you about being low energy by the end of the day and just wanting to call it quits like after work 😴 Haha, I'm down for the cute spoopy stuff too! GIve me that Hocus Pocus any day of the week, plus The Peanuts "Great Pumpkin" special too! 👻 Glad to hear you enjoyed both the theme of the podcast in general as well as the movie talk too! I wasn't sure how those who didn't catch the movie would enjoy that portion but I'm happy to know it was a fun listen! 🎧 AND YES!!! GIF with a capital GUH! 😤 What's wild is that I believe the creator of the format pronounces it JIFF... like wtf?! 🤣

GentleGeek's Geek Squad

Ooo I legit wasn't expecting others to have played MGSV who listen to the podcast! 😁 So reading your comment was a very pleasant surprise! And haha, yeah, David Hayter will always have a special part in my heart... though... thematically, it kinda makes sense that Venom Snake is voiced by Keifer Sutherland... since you know... spoilers and all that hehe 🤫 And speaking of Kojima... it was actually his birthday today... errr yesterday? Not sure... it was Aug 24th Japan time! 🎂 I'm sorry to hear about your father's passing while you were still quite young! 😔 But yes, I do happen to enjoy movies that go to show us just how deeply we are connected to our parents even when we at times either didn't get a chance to be with them for long or even just didn't see eye to eye on a lot of stuff. But I'll have to check out that Deep Space Nine episode! I still am marathoning my way through Next-Gen! 🔭✨

GentleGeek's Geek Squad

Awww thank you, thank you for the kind words on my voice! 😇 It's always a treat to hear when people can enjoy my spicy moans and groans but also can appreciate when I talk about all my random fandoms and fascinations ✨ I'm way into lots of things, love learning, and discussing those things with others -- so I'm glad you're having fun listening in on the podcast! 🎧 Haha, no worries on signing up through the iOS app since I truly didn't wanna guilt trip anyone for doing something that was A.) convenient, and B.) they had no idea what sorta changes were going to be made. But I still appreciate you making the effort to change up how you subscribe! Like seriously, it means a lot to be supported by amazing folks like you! ✨ Thank you for the support! And it's listeners like you that make this community go round and make me wanna just keep on coming up with fun different scenarios to moan into a mic about, as well as share all my ramblings with! 💖

When you get to Deep Space Nine, it's feel is very different to TNG. The first season is a bit rough. I suggest you watch the first episode Emissary, and skip the rest until you hit Duet. DS9 is my favourite show ever, it's so, so worth it - especially the war arc. You won't regret it, I promise you! Yeah, I got the logic in switching to Keifer Sutherland, I just didn't really like it very much 😅 I really enjoyed the game play though. My favourite character was the dog!

GentleGeek's Geek Squad

Thank ye, thank ye on the kind words for this installment! 🥰 And hehe, I'm glad you enjoyed the topic! 😉 It's so easy to just go with the flow of life and not think twice about stuff, but it's really a fun exercise to wonder the shoulda, coulda, woulda's... though... they themselves can consume us if we're not too careful. So a nice mix of like self-reflection with understanding can make it a lot more insightful! Halloween! 👻 Yes! While I'm such a fan of it, I know that not everyone is down for the big scares... so I was thinking of like mixing it up and having a variety of scary stuff but also perhaps sweet stuff that somehow are Halloween related. But with the ramble and buttie, I might just play it straight and not theme them to the month, just to play it safe ya know? 🎃 Haha! Since I time travel all the time to buy more stuff faster my island is always covered in roaches too! So don't feel too bad there 🪳 Haha, yep, just like in my story on the podcast, I too just decided for a fresh start so I get ya there... though having to catch all the bugs, fish, and museum stuff... whew... now that's a pain! 🥲 OH! When it comes to my favorite villager... it's Lobo! 🐺 So not too far off from Wolfgang! Lobo reminds me of my cat, Mikhail, which is why he's muh boi! I even got the amiibo card so I could have him on my island! 🏝️ Oh I'm glad you got to watch the movie ahead of time so you could follow along as I went scene by scene! 🎬 It was awesome how the movie fit in so seamlessly with the theme for the podcast, just this like traveling back through life and seeing how things ended up the way they did. And it's also a treat to know you enjoyed how I broke certain things down and my interpretations of what certain things meant to the character and such! I'm just stoked that everyone seemed to have had a great time catching this one! 🍿 Will definitely be taking this format and moving forward with it... though I'll see if I can shorten it up a bit since whew... that segment just kept on going, didn't it?! 😅

Zie

OMG U REPLIEDD!! 😭🥺 and yeah hearing you ramble and yap about non nsfw things makes me happy too, I actually listened to this while i was on my break and i kept giggling and smiling to myself the whole time. Even made me delulu for bit like you were actually talking to me lol But yeah i love your voice overall (and ofc ily hihi)🥺 looking forward to more of your yaps and moans~ :3 🫶🏻🫶🏻

Kitty NekoDesu

Funny enough I'm not a fan of the beach either 😅 it smells and the salt water leaves the skin feeling sticky and sand gets everywhere... besides that my vampire tan is sensitive so staying out in the sun is not for me 😆 And yes he did. The creator is wrong. 😤

GentleGeek's Geek Squad

I like the way how you said that the butterfly effect is basically infinite do to how dependent we are on the various decisions made by countless other people. Though when it comes to very specific decisions that were like a binary type thing, it's always a trip to wonder "what woulda happened had I simply said 'yes' to this, or 'no' to that". I'm happy this was a fun theme to listen to 🦋 With the feedback I've gotten over the spooky themed audios in October, I think I might keep the buttie and ramble spoopy-free, that way there's a bit of a safe zone for people who aren't too into the creepy vibes 😇 So thank you for your own feedback as it definitely helps to make decisions using a nice consensus! Oh! Sooo I was actually thinking of doing a sort of visual novel type audio for a future bonus... and ya know... maybe Coffee Talk might be a good candidate! And with the way the gameplay is set up (I just looked it up on Youtube) I think it legit might just be what I end up going with! So thank you for giving me that recommendation 🙌🏼✨ Though, you also mentioned Celeste! However, haha, I actually already played and completed it around the time of its release! Gosh, I really loved that game, its themes, and the challenging nature of its platforming 🗻 When it comes to questions, I will always welcome your curiosities! So always feel free to submit whatever you're wondering about and I'll do my best to include them in the podcast 😇 But haha, looks like we had similar experiences with orange tabbies! And as for Letty... haha... she was a hoot. Even when she broke the rules I never got mad at her cause I just was surprised at the level of intelligence where she was like, "humans aren't home... they'd never know I was on the couch!" The NSFW question was absolutely not invasive at all, so no worries whatsoever! I believe lots of folks woulda liked to know the logistics about how I record those parts so it felt like the perfect kinda question to dive deeper into! And yep, at times it can be easy to match the timing just perfectly, but more often than not I'll get right to the spot in the script where the character is about to orgasm, I'll then collect myself and start to work myself up, then I'll get right back to liek repeating the last few sentences of the build up so that way it all sounds like my energy matches, and then well... haha, I erupt 💦 Haha, don't you worry about not noticing some of the intricacies of the movie and such on first viewing, cause as I said when I first saw it years back, I also didn't really catch any of these sorts of themes. Also, I suppose my mind wasn't in that space yet where I was looking to peel back the layers -- so I just sorta took it for what it was. Though, with more experience and life under my belt, I could empathize a lot with Taeko's character as I also had to do some soul searching, revisiting my past and such, to be able to make sense of my present a few years back. So revisiting this movie was like realizing I wasn't alone for feeling the way I did ✨ Also, that note you said about being a kid and playing Harvest Moon was super cute! I never played those games much as a kid but I had a best friend who did, so I always was like familiar with those sorts of games -- and now I think I might actually like to go back and play one of them! 👨🏻‍🌾 Lastly, thank you for your thoughts and positive vibes being sent over my way due to all the feelings and such I talked about in regards to the relationship I had with my father growing up. Yeah, it really is wild to grow up and experience these sorts of things, then later on try to reconcile the good and the bad moments yet still try to balance out the fact that my dad loved me in his own ways. It can be hard to find peace especially when they're gone and not here anymore to talk to or reason why, but that's why I think it's healthy to try to find peace within my own view of the past and with the relationship I have with that view. So thank you again for the kind thoughts and for all the feedback too on the podcast! 🎧 Getting a dialogue with my listeners is really important since I get to know what's working and what's not, so these sorts of comments are vital, and I thank you for them! ✌🏼

Adriana

I very much enjoy thought provoking topics so this episode was great, as usual 🦋. I bet your ACNH island looks great! I named mine Tatooine and built a pumpkin patch just for the autumn vibes ahaha. "Only Yesterday" absolutely floored me, it was so special, simple yet beautiful. It really captured how complex girlhood is in a very real and accurate way. The balance between nostalgia and growing up was what made my heart ache. For me it felt like a reminder that, while we all have to leave childhood, we should do our best to ensure childhood never leaves us 🎐. Also the title in Italian is "Pioggia di ricordi" which translates to "Rain of memories" and I think it fits perfectly, it's a definite rewatch. P.s. I'm a Ravenclaw as well ✨

GentleGeek's Geek Squad

I do try my best to ensure each episode sorta has its own make and model, so to speak haha -- making them unique with their corresponding themes, so knowing they're appreciated with the in-depth topics is great to hear. Like sure, I could keep things simple and sweet, (Read as: shallow haha) but that's sorta not my style 😅 Oh gosh... I feel like my island is still a mess since I'm figuring so much out on where I want to place things around. But hopefully will share down the road when I feel it's ready 🏖 Though I dig your Tatooine naming -- is there a desert area on your island? Maybe a droid junkyard haha? BUT I also have a pumpkin patch... but it's year round cause I just wish it was autumn all the time 🍁 It legit makes me warm in my soul to know you enjoyed "Only Yesterday". It was definitely a special movie for me and I felt they did a great job as well when it came to presenting what childhood feels like, even down to the more less vibrant colors where memories seem to be a bit foggy and less detailed as the present. Also, that Italian title makes it sound quite poetic, thank you for filling me in on that! ☔️ *high five* 🦉 RavenClaws definitely were short-changed in the movies since they literally were given no screen time at all.... though I never saw the newer movies that took place in the past 🤔

NaNababy🎀

Well, I am still catching up all of the podcasts lol. I watched Only Yesterday when I was junior high or high school. By that time, I guess I was too young to get the meaning behind the story. I do love the story when the first time I watched. To me, it was more like bitter sweet childhood memories. But, as I grow older, I think I should watch it again, maybe it will hit me differently. 😇 As for camping! ⛺️ I love camping!! My parents and I often went camping when I was young. We didn't have all the fancy camping stuff like huge tent with living room and bedrooms, or comfy air mattress. No, we only have a small tent that barly fit in 3 people and 3 sleeping bags, that was all we get. We didn't even get pillows 🤣 I gotta say that it was definately not comfy at all, but it was fun 💛 Having time with family and doing things together. That is the most important part for me. ✨💕Plus, we were all exhausted anyway, who cared whether the sleeping begs are comfy or not 🤣
