If you’ve noticed by now, the movies selected for each month are usually ones on which I’ve got a lot to say. Problem is, I wanted it to also match the season and holiday, so I wasn’t gonna go for the classic go-to: Die Hard 🤣 (Although it is part of my Xmas-Day tradition for that be the opening movie).

I kept thinking and thinking and eventually realized that one of my favorite movies in recent years also happens to take place during Christmas (or at least, partly does)! Eureka! We found it! And so that’s how La La Land was chosen. Not to mention, I adore this movie from top to bottom, AND I’ve got a lot to say about its cinematography, the acting, the music, and the overall theme and lesson 📝

So, even if you’re not a fan of musicals, I ask you to give this one a shot cause it’s a lot more than its musical numbers. It’s a movie that stays with you and makes you feel something 😭

La La Land (watch the trailer here)

Director: Damien Chazelle

Starring: Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling

Genre: Romance, Drama, Musical

Summary: Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) and Mia (Emma Stone) are drawn together by their common desire to do what they love. But as success mounts they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart.

Oh no... my nemesis... a MUSICAL!! 😬 Why you gotta do this to me, man??? 😆 Lucky for you my bestie loves musicals so I'll make him watch it with me (and likely constantly tell me to hush while I groan in discomfort 🤣)

Telepathy works! I saw it at the theatre when it first came out, and have never rewatched it. The other day I was listening to the soundtrack and thought mhmm I think it's time ✨

Shiv

I can finally say that I at least know of the movie that you’re recommending 😅

ziyal79

I really like musicals! But I've never watched this. And yeah, Die Hard is my go to Christmas movie, but mostly because I don't really like Christmas movies!

NaNababy🎀

I’ve watched this twice and cried twice. And now you’re making watch again and cry again?! 😭😭😭

GentleGeek's Geek Squad

I think it's impossible to sit down through this movie, get invested, and not cry! 😭 So if anything I'll be using a few tissues myself to share with ya!

GentleGeek's Geek Squad

Then this one is a must watch if ya haven't seen it! 🎶 Die-Hard is my go-to around noon on Christmas Day, but another classic is Gremlins too!

GentleGeek's Geek Squad

Oh really?! Haha! I'm sorry for always picking movies that might outta your wheel house, but hopefully it's expanded your horizons a bit 😇 In the mean time, though, can't wait to do a more mainstream like movie that really hit and connected with so many folks!

GentleGeek's Geek Squad

I knew at some point adding that "telepathy" option in the Podcast Questions would bear fruit somewhere! So thank you for sending over those brain waves my way so we can all share in the collective ogling of Ryan Gosling 🤣

GentleGeek's Geek Squad

Haha, hey, this one's really good!!! Also... I'm there with ya, a lot of musicals can be kinda cringe. But there's some magic to this one. Not to mention, I've got a lot to say about it too, so power on through and trust me, I think you'll enjoy the overall movie 😉 I wouldn't steer ya wrong!

Shiv

No, it’s good. It really is broadening my horizons. Plus the movies you’ve selected have never missed, so I’m always down to watch movies that you recommend that I haven’t heard of 😁

Shiv
