This is a purposfully provacative title, yes, but in my years as a teacher I have identified some common themes in the kinds of resistance students encounter. Along with that I also have some advice about dealing with it.

Why Most People Don't Learn To Draw, Live/Ep.28

To improve your drawing skills, subscribe at: https://www.patreon.com/stephenbaumanartwork This is technically episode number 28 in my livestream series we are going to take a totally different tack. I am going to talk about resistance and what it looks like for an artist. After that I am going to introduce a great acronym, S.M.A.R.T. and how I wish I knew about it when I was studying. With regards to the "big art ideas", I was preoccupied with "expression" when I was young. Now, I really don't care about that stuff. I car about technical mastery. I'm not looking to learn the expression stuff. I'm not certain I will do that. I just want to be able to draw whatever I am looking at, especially people, and especially faces.

I can't thank you enough for your content. I am currently going trough a griefing process, and everything is hard. Getting out of bed, going for a walk, or even breathing sounds like a challenge. I am trying to get out of it, and today I decided to open your patreon and watch a random class to gain some inspiration or motivation to work again. It was so good to listen about learning paths, growing and all of this like it was the first class, the first day of school, where you meet your favourite teacher again, after a cruel summer. Thank you Stephen from the bottom of my heart.
