Weaponizer- The tears are real! This episode is so, so phenomenal, and it's definitely the first of my favorite episodes throughout this second season. I really love it overall. And it's mostly all to do with seeing just how much Lucifer really cares so deeply about Chloe, and his mother, as well for his siblings in spite of their hatred for him and his anger towards them for turning their backs on him. Not to mention this phenomenal ending... when we watch Lucifer and Maze both fight Uriel, and then see a new side of Lucifer that we've never really seen before. A broken side of him that makes me cry in the end every time I watch this episode. First... in regards to Uriel's death appearing to some fans of this show as anti-climatic, especially in comparison to other shows such as Supernatural... It does seem weak, or maybe strange that they would show an angel's death to be just like any humans' death, without any big lights or special affects to show that an angel has just been killed and wiped out of existence. These were among my thoughts in this ending for awhile too. However, the more I thought about it, I came to realize that in a way, Lucifer somewhat foreshadows an angel's death appearing like nothing's happened, when Lucifer states... "No Heaven, no Hell... just gone." upon him explaining to Uriel what Azrael's Blade will do to their mother if Uriel were to succeed in killing her. That their mother would simply be "just gone". Like it's no big deal and nothing spectacular would happen as a result of his death. At least in regards to the appearance of his death. I know he is talking about an angel's soul, or their mother's soul being wiped out of existence too, but I feel his words have more than one meaning. I may be wrong about this, but this is how I choose to interpret the words... in order to try to make sense as to why there isn't a bigger death for an angel like in Supernatural. I hope this makes sense. Now, in regards to Lucifer's deal with God upon him asking his father to protect Chloe from Malcolm... God resurrects Lucifer so that he can return to Earth and be there to protect Chloe. And before doing so, God shows Lucifer an open door in Hell, showing him that his mother has escaped her prison. However, Lucifer is right that this is all that was shown to him, and God never actually explains what He wants from Lucifer. Lucifer simply has made the assumption that God wants him to return his Mum to Hell, and has therefore come to accept this idea and believe it's what God expects of him. This is why Lucifer has sought out a loophole to be able to protect both Chloe and his mother, and it's why he's so distracted and worried all throughout the previous episode... Lady Parts. Because Lucifer is unsure of what his father really expects from him and about what the consequences might be for doing nothing. And all angels know this because they're all up in the Silver City, undoubtedly able to watch and see what's happening down on Earth if they wish to see what their brothers are up to. Which is why I feel that Uriel has come down of his own accord and was never sent by God at all, which again is possibly proven further when Uriel goes against what he claims earlier to be God's will. I don't believe God really wants or expects Lucifer and Amenadiel to return their mother to Hell. And therefore... I do not believe Chloe is really in any danger from Him by Lucifer going against the deal he's made with his father. I do believe there's a reason for the Goddess of all Creation coming to Earth outside of whatever her own agenda might be. And I suspect that perhaps... God might wish for His sons to reconcile with their mother to some degree. If God truly wanted the Goddess of all Creation back in Hell, He would actually send another angel down to take her back, or send her back to Hell Himself through His own power. To backtrack a little... the overall case involving the Weaponizer, his wife, and their friends, is pretty solid. I enjoy this storyline for sure. There are stronger, more entertaining cases throughout this show, but I mostly really love the cute and hilarious bromance that develops between Lucifer and Dan over their commonalty in loving the six Body Bags action movies during this case. And I definitely love the end twist upon discovering that Kimo's co-star and friend was killed by both his wife and their their other friend/business manager who are sadly also having an affair with one another. And with that being said... I love how Chloe is able to protect Kimo from killing those who betrayed him by talking him down and appealing to the good part of him who is afraid of losing everything, just as she has become ever since her accident in spite of not showing it to any of those who care about her, except for to Lucifer in the end because he happened to be there so he could try to protect her from his brother. Yet in spite of Lucifer's apprehension to do so, and you can really see his fear for Chloe on his face in this moment, I really love how Lucifer trusts Chloe so completely to be able to talk Kimo down as he takes a step back so that she can do so. And thankfully she is rewarded as Kimo lowers his gun and allows himself to get arrested and taken away by the other cops who walk over behind Lucifer. I absolutely love Chloe's and Lucifer's relationship and seeing just how much they truly trust in one another even in moments as difficult as this one. And now in regards to Uriel... I absolutely love the introduction to Uriel... the third angel introduced into this phenomenal show. And I really like the actor chosen to play him as well, at least in his role as Uriel. Michael Imperioli. I've seen him in other roles and he's okay in anything else I've seen him in, but Uriel is absolutely a role he is meant to play. I hate his character just like we as viewers are meant to hate him. But I love his demeanor, his wit, and all of his interactions with Lucifer, as well as with Amenadiel too. In regards to the angels looks and the actors chosen to play them... the angels are of all different ethnicities, races, genders, and ages... given that they were created just as they are. Fully grown, all divine, and not separated by qualities, genes, or traits like humans are. This is why the actor chosen to play Uriel is older than the actors who play both Lucifer and Amenadiel... the same reason for Amenadiel being Black whereas Lucifer and Uriel are White. And I really love that every angel is different in so many various ways. In the beginning... we see Uriel first appear as he carefully sets off a chain of events that leads to Chloe getting into the car accident we see happen at the end of the last episode, therefore revealing that the accident is quite possibly a consequence to Lucifer's refusal to give up their mother. And a short time later... Uriel reveals himself to Lucifer, who then confronts his older brother on the roof of a building across from their latest crime scene, and they have a conversation that ends with Uriel threatening both Chloe and their mother, as Lucifer comes to realize that Chloe's life is most definitely in danger. I love how protective Lucifer then becomes of Chloe, as he takes up the role of her protector. While she thinks he's taking protecting her way out of control, and Lucifer is even being funny in how he handles the different situations he and Chloe find themselves in, we know that he's not messing around because Lucifer knows just how powerful and serious his brother is. Also... I really love seeing Uriel's power to see patterns. It is most certainly an interesting power to have and who knows what someone could do with such power. It's scary. And I definitely believe that Uriel came to abuse his power for his own personal gain, thinking that he was doing right by their father in trying to protect Him from their mother, even though Uriel has become misguided. I suspect that maybe a part of him is angry with their mother for reasons yet to be explored. Nonetheless... I love Uriel's power to see patterns, and I love seeing what all he is able to accomplish with them. It's brilliant! Next... I really enjoy Amenadiel's and Uriel's confrontation as Amenadiel attempts to talk Uriel down like Lucifer asked of him while pretending to still be his old powerful self, since Amenadiel has yet to tell Lucifer that he's become a fallen angel at this point. Unfortunately, we see within a later scene between Amenadiel, Lucifer, and Maze at Lucifer's penthouse, that Uriel has defeated Amenadiel easily and has hurt him pretty badly because he was able to recognize that Amenadiel is now powerless due to seeing what is to come in his mind, as is his own power allows him to predict everyone's patterns. That... and because Uriel knows his older brother well enough to recognize that Amenadiel is all talk, and not a fighter like he always has been since they were in Heaven together from the beginning of time. I will say... while I do feel badly for Amenadiel under the circumstances, even though him becoming a fallen angel is because of his own sins and therefore his punishment is of his own making, I'm also mad at both him and Maze for coming down so hard on Lucifer and for not understanding his need to save and protect Chloe and their mother. If Amenadiel had just been honest with Lucifer and Maze about losing his powers and becoming a fallen angel before all of this happened, or at least even before Amenadiel attempted to confront Uriel, then he could have avoided getting hurt by Uriel, and Lucifer never would have asked Amenadiel to confront Uriel in the first place. However, Amenadiel is too prideful to admit the truth to either of them. His "angelic ego" Lucifer recognizes in his older brother once again gets in the way of Amenadiel simply being honest with Lucifer. And Maze knows darn well how much Lucifer cares about Chloe, as well as their mother. She is their mother after all, and Lucifer is desperate for her love when no one else in their family has ever been there for him long before he was even cast out of Heaven. So for Maze to get so upset with him, especially given that he didn't know the truth about Amenadiel losing his power... it's so wrong. Should Lucifer be more understanding with Amenadiel upon learning this about him? Of course. And if Lucifer could have been there for him as he should have been, I'm certain Lucifer would have come around. He has shown just how much he cares about his brother, and he does. However, there simply wasn't the time in this moment. Lucifer is terrified for Chloe and for their mother. Especially Chloe. His only desire in this moment is to find Chloe and to protect her from Uriel. So I can absolutely understand why Lucifer leaves his penthouse again after being a bit more harsh with Amenadiel than he really means to be. He cares about Amenadiel and I've no doubt he's upset his brother was hurt because of him, but Lucifer needs to protect Chloe because he cares about her so much, and we know that Lucifer has a difficult time thinking rationally when he's upset upon his life spinning so out of control. Do I believe Lucifer is at fault for what's happened to Amenadiel? In a small way... yes. Partially at fault, that is. Lucifer has always made it difficult for anyone to really talk with him about anything having to do with their emotions and feelings, mostly because I feel that Lucifer doesn't know how to deal with them. Because he doesn't understand them and has never truly allowed himself to feel any emotion aside from anger. So I can understand why Amenadiel wouldn't feel comfortable talking to Lucifer about his own emotions in regards to what's going on with him and upon realizing he has fallen. And Lucifer can be selfish, thinking only of himself and his own desires, which in this case... were solely to protect Chloe, as well as their mother. But like I said above, Lucifer is desperate, and he couldn't think about anything else including his brother's problems and why Maze is so angry with him. This isn't fully an excuse, but I understand his need above all else. Now... one of my favorite scenes within this episode is when Lucifer becomes angry with Maze after they both have been pestering him all day, claiming to know what God really wants from him just like Uriel claims to know what God wants from him. Lucifer then suddenly shouts out of anger that no one ever really knows what their father wants because God Himself won't come down to tell him in person, nor will He speak with anyone else. And I can absolutely understand Lucifer's anger and hatred towards God for staying silent. People all throughout history have claimed to do all kinds of reprehensible things such as kill and wage wars in God's name just like Lucifer says. And Lucifer is absolutely right. From many people's perspectives, it can be seen as God being really cruel to not let anyone know with a certainty of what He wants from them. But then I suppose that by Him staying silent, it allows for His children to have the free will Lucifer is so adamant about everyone deserving, including his brothers and sisters just like we humans have. I'm not saying it's right or wrong that God should stay silent, but I suppose it might be His reasons for doing so. Plus... I do feel that while Lucifer does believe his own words in this moment, I'm sure there's also a very big part of him that doubts himself as well. He doubts himself a lot more than he allows anyone to see. And I love this moment for Lucifer, because we can see that Lucifer is so conflicted about sending his mother back to Hell because he wants so badly to believe that she really has come to Earth to be there for him and Amenadiel now, in spite of her failing to be his mother in Heaven. He so desperately wants this relationship with her to work and it's so heartbreaking to see such confliction in him. Perhaps sending his mother back to Hell is the smart decision, but I can absolutely understand why this decision is so hard for Lucifer too. Especially in the end when Uriel reveals he has no intention of sending their mother back to Hell, but that he plans to wipe her out of all existence with Azrael's blade, which he has stolen from the Angel of Death. And Lucifer is offered a very dark choice... give up his mother so that Uriel can destroy her completely, or to save Chloe. Lucifer realizes he has no real choice but to fight his brother and at first, Lucifer is doing well in their battle, until Uriel's abilities to see Lucifer's fighting patterns before Lucifer can attack him come into play, and Uriel manages to defeat Lucifer after a rough battle between brothers, rendering Lucifer nearly unconscious, or merely dazes him for a brief time while Uriel then comes face to face with Maze, who arrives to protect Lucifer and Chloe. But once again, Uriel beats her as well. And then... the most shocking moment throughout this entire episode happens, when Lucifer suddenly appears beside his brother just before Uriel can push the key on the organ that would have set off a chain of events eventually leading to Chloe's death, as he swiftly stabs and kills Uriel with Azrael's blade in order to save Chloe and his mother. As soon as the blade flies free and lands on the floor near Lucifer when Uriel fights against Maze, I suspected Lucifer would then kill his brother too. Even earlier... when Uriel reveals he has the blade to Lucifer. However, even though I saw Uriel's death coming, this moment is still shocking and absolutely devastating, because we see just how deeply affected and broken Lucifer becomes upon having been forced to kill his own brother. Especially in the very end, when Lucifer returns to his penthouse to find his mother there, and he breaks down crying in his mother's arms just after he asks what has he done out of complete disbelief. This moment for Lucifer is tragic and heartbreaking, yet so beautiful as well. Because in spite of being cast out of Heaven and into Hell, and being an outcast hated by all of his siblings, we see in this moment that Lucifer still loves them and he becomes so broken upon having to kill one of them. And we know that Lucifer isn't evil and doesn't ever wish to kill or truly harm anyone. Not even his own family. Lucifer didn't even want to harm Amenadiel throughout season one, which is confirmed in its finale when Amenadiel is stabbed by Maze's demon blade and Lucifer struggles to hide his emotions upon seeing his brother becoming mortally wounded once he finds him. And while the world has always seen him as all evil, a monster, and as a killer, Lucifer has never killed anyone ever, which means that his own brother is his first kill. So, so heartbreaking and devastating. And you can absolutely feel Lucifer's pain, and the emotions from Tom Ellis in these moments as well, which is a real testament to his acting abilities that are just so unbelievably incredible. I also find it very interesting that Uriel makes a point to tell Lucifer that he would never use the blade on Lucifer to kill him, which is why he sheaths the blade in the holster worn on his back so they can fight hand to hand. This shows that Uriel really does love Lucifer to some small degree too, in spite of despising him for his rebellion against their father and turning away from all things divine. I believe this moment shows us that Uriel also believes Lucifer would never have used Azrael's blade on him either should he ever gain possession of it because he knows Lucifer still loves him too, which could explain why Uriel fails to see Lucifer stabbing him with the blade coming. Fantastic! I absolutely love this devastating ending. I can't help but cry every time I watch it, and I feel so badly for Lucifer, as well as for their mother too because we can see that she's pretty devastated as well upon seeing her son's blood all over Lucifer's clothes, and in seeing one of her youngest sons so broken while he cries in her arms as she tries to comfort him. This scene, and the entire episode, really shows us just how much Lucifer really does love his family, and how much he has come to care for Chloe too, which I love, love, love!!!! Tom Ellis' acting is phenomenal and always has been. I love, love, love this moment in the end between him and his mother, and just before while he's holding Uriel's body in his arms. He's absolutely devastated upon looking down on what he's just done. Tom Ellis is brilliant with the comedy, and everything else too. However, seeing him break down and showing such emotion is absolutely sensational!! And lastly, in regards to their mother and whether or not she's sincere... I truly believe she loves her children. Very deeply. I believe she's shown this in more ways than one and trust her when she tells them so. And I've no doubt that the emotion she shows, especially upon learning of her son's death and in comforting Lucifer is absolutely sincere. However, I still have that lingering doubt in regards to her motivations for coming to Earth. She wants to be with her sons... yes. Yet she's shown so more than once that she wants something more too, and that she's willing to do whatever it takes to get what she wants. Including manipulating her sons. The Goddess is a character I want to fully trust, and yet I can't in spite of her showing sincere love towards her sons. Thank you so much for this reaction for a phenomenal episode, Arvin!!! And now... I really can't wait for your reaction for the next episode too, because it's another one of my absolute favorites within this season and throughout all the seasons as well. The next several episodes are all absolutely marvelous, and I can't wait!!! Until then, dear friend... Stay safe and healthy, and be happy! :) Thank you so, so much! Sincerely, Heidi
