Hey folks!

We just wanted to announce a slight change in show delivery. Instead of the normal six shows a month, we’ll be producing five: three story shows, feedback, and the extra credit episode.

Our reasons:

We don’t want to raise prices. Nevertheless, life has gotten more expensive, and we’re struggling a bit. So, instead, we’re trying to carve out a little more time to improve our show, get more patrons and create some additional products (our game, anthologies, etc.).

Trying to avoid burnout. Despite doing the show over Skype, our goal is to never phone it in. We treat every show as if it’s the first and give it our all. After 800+ episodes, we want to make sure we don’t lose touch with this ambition. It’s still just the two of us doing the reading, research, recording, editing, mixing, delivery, correspondence, etc., and it’s a shoggoth of overwhelm at times. The good news? We wouldn’t want to be doing anything else. We love this show. We just want to stay sane a wee bit longer as we continue producing it.

So, our typical schedule for at least the next few months will look like this:

Week one: story episode

Week two: story episode

Week three: feedback episode and extra credit episode

Week four: story episode

Let us know if you have any thoughts, and as always THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING OUR STRANGE STUDIES!

Chad and Chris

No problems! Glad you guys are taking care of yourselves!

Ash Royal

Do what you have to do to maintain your sanity scores. I, for one, am not going anywhere.

Dave Kidd

I'm cool with it ;)

Robert Curtin

Take care of yourselves. Gotta make sure our horror daddies stay in tip-top shape!

Ethan Cordray

No problem! Hang in there, guys!

OnomatoPoeFan

You could’ve just told us that every month you have to sacrifice one episode to the old ones. Then you’d have a chance to make up whatever it was about and tell us how sad you are that you won’t be able to share it. For example, next month’s lost episode could’ve been about a Manimal spinoff that only had a pilot called “Womanimal”.

Michael Cunliffe

Let’s be absolutely clear, we are here (I hope) to support quality, not quantity. Let’s not MCU multiverse this thing 🫣

Philip Cowan

Thanks for the update, guys. I am sure everyone will understand. The show’s standards remain exceptionally high. Very few podcasts have such superb production values and sustained enthusiasm from the hosts. If I had more to give to you, I would, but frankly I don’t, so Mr Cheapo here has no grounds for complaint. On the show as a whole, I have only one small comment; not a complaint, just a semantic irk The title is ‘Strange Studies of Strange Stories’. True, the stories are generally strange, but there is nothing strange about the show. Perhaps it says something telling about my social circle, but Chad and Chris seem perfectly normal to me. Not strange at all. That said, one little item that arises from time to time that is weird is your attempt to set a price for the talking lion, Vincent. True, a talking lion is quite remarkable, but how do you set a price for such a wonder? My near destitution I have already mentioned, so I couldn’t possibly afford such a fantastic creature (albeit he is a tad too snooty for my liking), but my wife will not have pets. Especially one that might eat the children. Lion Vincent: Price is indeed strange.

Kyle Van Acker

No worries! With a backlog like this, who could complain?! Anything you can do to mitigate the furious pace of life is a good decision.

Kevin Lama

I love how everyone has been overwhelming supportive. Like they said, go take care of yourselves and relax! You guys have earned it

Allison Albright

I think we can all read between the lines here - the old gods were getting jealous and you guys have to protect yourselves. We totally understand :)

Dan Pratt

Although it would be super-cool to have a podcast with fully insane hosts, I think we’ll all be ok if you’re only a little nuts.

Thora Cottrell

I think we, as fans, can all agree that we prefer y'all to not hate your lives and enjoy making what you love. So, go for it ya nerds.

Chad Welch

Need a kidney to sell? Not one my of mine of course.

Steve

You mean you're not just using AI? Where's your transhuman commitment?

Matthew Thomas

Hope y'all continue to do a show y'all love for as long as y'all are willing

Sludgecrawler

Sounds good, take care of yourselves 🧡

Strength24

Absolutely take care of yourselves, gents. If I can help at all, please let me know!

Drasferatu

I’ll take less quantity if it means keeping the quality high. Honestly, compared to the amount of content that other Patreon supported podcast/shows produce, you guys are a tremendous value.

Brittany King

Happy to throw y'all a few extra bucks each month. Also, is there somewhere we can make a one-time donation?

Alan Ricks

I upped my membership. Love y’all 4-eva.

Kevin Roy

Hey, you please take care of yourselves, and keep putting out awesomeness. Love you both!

Ann Knight

I would rather you both take a month off each year, for example, than see the show vanish completely. That said, nothing lasts forever. As long as you both love doing it as much as your patrons love consuming it, I hope you continue, including doing fewer shows if that is the best course to take.

James Kundart

Keep your sanity points! I'd be happy with one show a week and 52 a year instead of five a month (and 60 a year?) if it keeps you both sane!

John Bladek

Burnout is insidious. Avoid at all costs! Quality is too rare to risk. Keep up the awesome work!

Derek Benson

Do what you gotta do, man, no worries!

David Thomas

Happy to keep supporting, personally I don't mind about the feedback episodes, but if you guys enjoy doing them and subscribers like them

Jaemin Jang

Just upgraded from the $10 to the $20 level. You guys keep up the great work!

Jaemin Jang

Also, I go back and listen to old episodes for nostalgia not infrequently. There’s so many to choose from.

Jim Bassett

No worries! Do what you need to, especially if it helps keep the show going. I'm loving the new focus on Strange Stories, in particular the sci-fi stories since that's my main genre. I may be behind on my other podcasts, but I am and will always be up-to-date with you. Thanks for all you do!

Erick W Mertz

You had me at, “hello” errr, “we’ll be producing 5 shows”. Quality counts and you guys are the standard

Jake Medrano

Honestly there are so many shows I haven't listened to, please do what you feel needs to be done! You guys are awesome

Thylacine

It's a marathon, not a sprint. Do what you all need to do. I've been listening since you all were still working your way through HPL and I absolutely love your show. You're the best.

Bret Kramer

Personally I think you could up your productivity if you both went full-on “Night Wire” mode, but if you insist on staying sane and alive, well, I suppose I’ll allow it. ;)

(required field)

Guys! Please get your own oxygen masks on first. We'll be happy to listen to whatever you can deliver. Always a highlight in my week.

Cole Caron

Always going to stand by my favorite podcast uncles. Do what you gotta do!

Michael Bernth

No worries, you should absolutely do what is necessary to stay sane and healthy. I love your show and you have been extremely productive, year in and year out, for a very long time. A reduction from 6 to 5 shows is actually very small. I love you guys and I feel lucky that you keep on contributing to my weekly fun. Many thanks and lots of love.

David Pratt

NO worries, and I understand completely.

Levi Krain

As long as we get more 12-foot skeleton content, I'll be happy.

Ben Robson

No worries :) I think your Patreon is incredible value already. My favourite podcast hands down!

benjamin fraker

Do what you need to do to keep it healthy! Love your work. Been with you guess from day one with the Podcraft

RebeccaR

Thanks for the lol about "staying sane". That ship has sailed, my dears, and we wouldn't want you any other way. I totally support your new show schedule. And thanks for the 800+ episodes :)

Penny Nicoles

We just want you to be happy. BE HAPPY!

Ada Terrill

I agree with everyone here. We want y’all to be happy and healthy! Burn out is very real and you can’t always control when it happens or for how long it happens. Knowing the signs and being able to avoid it is the best anyone can do!

Liefesa

My first thought was "huh, skype still exists", followed quickly by "anything that avoids burn out has my profound support!"

Jason Thompson

I’m not sure where to ask this, but do you still sell advertising on your shows? I would love info/prices/details!! 🙏

Bag of Weasels

I’m on episode 90 of my second listen through. This remains the only podcast where I would want to befriend the hosts - and what kind of friend wants their friend to be burnt out and poor?

ChiveOnOCM

Thanks for the heads up!

Ko-Wahi Kit

Thanks for the clear communication, and for not hiding a practical decision like this behind deceptive lingo like so many companies do. I have listened to this show for longer than any other media in my rotation, and I’ve seen so many beloved shows burn out and disappear forever. Thanks for taking care of yourselves and holding to your standard of quality. Here’s to the next ten years.

Mara Rhymes with Sara

This is my favorite show, and has been for over ten years. You two (and let's not leave out a mention of Andrew Leman) have given me countless hours of entertainment, and I'm so grateful. Whatever you need to do to maintain the thin patina of sanity that covers your minds is totally fine. Thank you.

Shay Fargel

(just got back from vacation so have only seen this now) i've been amazed at how you keep up this schedule for a while now, please do whatever you need to do and we'll be here.

Darren Hennessey

Remember the Robert W. Chamber's story "The Harbour Master" (EP. 213 + 214 of the HPLLP) and the crabby character Halyard was a big fan of something called beef tea? One of my other obsessions, "Tasting History with Max Miller" just aired an episode on YouTube about the history of Beef Tea from a Victorian Hospital: https://youtu.be/gZKviDlCyQU?si=vHTFQaE595hX7AfG

Dawn Robinson-Morgan

After all these years, I’m just so grateful you’re still here. I still listen to HPLLP and of course everything after. Please, for the love of all things unholy, do what you have to do to not burn out!

Graham Matthews

I'm late to adding a reply to this but would love to add my two pence to the comments . I have listened to you two from the beginning as HPL...the stories you have explored I have shared with a friends reading group at a local library and the feedback from her re her elderly readers has been a sparking of the group into a hotbed of controversy and arguments...this has continued into strange studies . You two have also expanded my reading to which I am eternally grateful. The episode you did on Autism was also incredibly moving having been diagnosed as a more mature human ... I'm rambling a little I feel but am trying to say the ripples of you two doing this show spread a great deal of love and happiness across the universe.... And it's reciprocal I feel from your audience to you.... Your like family to many ... Take care of yourselves 🤗
