This week's feedback show comes with a warning: some of the language is a little spicy and probably not appropriate for young folks.

But it's your fault!

Check out The Bookshop Band!

And here is that 1997 short film of Little Red Riding Hood with Christina Ricci.

Hopeful penis farms won’t be a constant theme for Chris, like how werewolves and inter dimensional cats are for Chad.

Allison Albright

I was going to say something about those harvested penises, but I decided they really speak for themselves. So instead I'll just say that I would love a folk horror theme month!

With the reference to the new version of Nosferatu in this episode, may I suggest a possible future Extra Credit Episode, namely a discussion of the original Nosferatu, the 1979 remake directed - or more accurately, misdirected- by Werner Herzog, Shadow of the Vampire, still one of the most underrated films, with a great performance by Willem Dafoe, and the new remake. Would be perfect for Halloween.

I am totally down for a double-feature Freeway and The Chase! 😂 I distinctly remember Charlie Sheen kidnapping Kristy Swanson with a vaudevillian trick of pushing a candy bar into her back, pretending it’s a gun. Also, totally insane.

Damn I got robbed of my username in a feedback episode. It’s me. -lived in thailand guy. And I stand by it, (and please don’t feel guilty I’m just giving u shit. I don’t need u to read my comments out loud. It is just nice to know you read them at all) The Alastair Crowley episode was a really creepy one about disease demons still torturing u in death…and it was pitch black while riding our motorbike in the rain in the mountains trying to find a place to stay for the night. Made what would be a normal experience into a very creepy if not outright horrifying one. And then it went from that straight to listening to day of the dragon with my wife cracking up the entire episode in the treehouse room we found to stay in enjoying hot chocolate and a comfy bed. A very fond memory of mine

Hippity happily Cthulhu on your property may be the best username I’ve heard. I also have a massive Cthulhu tattoo and it has a brand of the elder sign on its forehead. If it wasn’t for yall I never would have known of the original elder sign. And of course this podcast is what got me so into love craft to begin with . I’ll post it in the discord in the off topic channel if u want to see

"Slut" didn't originally mean someone who was sexually promiscuous, but was just a sort of disapproving term for a woman. Sometimes it could be affectionate! It originally meant someone who was dirty or unclean, and I guess that developed into being "dirty" sexually.

I'm inclined to suggest that Chad use "Any Given Werewolf" as the title of his autobiography, but I still think "A Toothless Farce" is the best option (from WAY back when they got a comment on their episode discussing HPL's racism.) Maybe the title for the next PBM album?

Jim Cannon

Happy to be of service! I agree re: listening to old eps that one hasn't heard in a while and rediscovering bits. I had forgotten all about "Chris Mackey," for example.

Scott Butler

There was acomment about the myths of Baba Yaga sleeping on or in her oven. I thought this (sleeping on the oven at least) was a fairly standard Russian cultural feature. I have read that most Russian peasant homes featured very large ovens and that in winter, the entire family would sleep on the oven. Being peasant homes they probably weren't metal ovens, but large brick or stone ovens so not skin scalding to touch (one would hope).

Speaking of listening to old episodes, I was listening to 396, part 3 of the Jekyll and Hyde series, and I’d forgotten Chad’s absolute gem of a story about how one time all his underwear was dirty so he Walked to Ross but got like 3XL size by accident but was STILL too lazy to return it and so fashioned an underwear belt to wear them. Totally forgotten the story, absolutely died laughing while listening, as if hearing it for the first time again.

What a missed opportunity! I totally expected them to end the episode with uncalled for sl*t shaming of the listeners 🤣🤣🤣

I'm not sure a Judgy version of the Alien franchise is necessary, considering that the related Predator franchise has Judgment built in.

Jamie Allinson

I too have recently read ‘Bind Your Hair’ and I think it is my new favourite Aickman story. I’d love for you to do an episode on it and especially to hear whether you think there is a werewolf element or not. P.S I’ve heard that Kevin Costner was originally going to be in ‘Field of Penises’ but they couldn’t get the special effects right at the time so they had to change it to ‘Dreams.’

Gideon Falcon

The idea of judgy monsters puts me in mind of a video I recently saw by Essayist Jacob Geller, titled "Three Specific Kinds of Terror." He draws on three videos games that, through wildly different methods, manage to instill that same feeling of being complicit, of somehow, all of this being your fault. The subtlest, yet the one that stands out the most for it, was the example of Amnesia: The Bunker, which departs from previous titles in the series by allowing you weapons to defend yourself with; but these weapons cost resources that are increasingly difficult to get, resources that have opportunity cost of even more valuable resources. As such, with every failure, there's at least one decision you made that clearly led to it; a sense that it could have been avoided if you just been a little less *stupid.* Perhaps the real horror isn't when the monsters judge you, but when they make you judge yourself.

You got my hopes up Chad when you mentioned Aickman's 'Bind Your Hair' and said "Some time soon we should do a full month of... folk horror". Don't get me wrong, I love folk Horror but it took me (& others) years of nagging to get you guys to read any Aickman and I'd hoped it would become a yearly month of Aickman like March is for Draculas. Last year you did no Aickman at all. I'M AICKING FOR MORE AICKMAN!!! How about Aicking August?

Anne Ominous

I listen to the old shows all the time.

What I really liked about the Reconciliation is that it was actually both the most humane and the most effective punishment the man could have received; not pain, but *guilt.* Think about it, I believe it's been noted that corporal punishment was ineffective because it ACTUALLY only taught children that parents could enact their will through force; but genuinely showing them how their bad behavior hurt someone else has a much longer lasting impact, and helps form the connections that underlie morality in general. She gave him a shock to break up any defensiveness he might have set out with, but the real punishment was learning from those around him how broken she was, how deeply he hurt a woman he once loved. He was absolutely in the wrong, both for leaving in the first place and especially for not going back earlier, but he now has the opportunity and a big reason to become better.
