I'm shocked that George simply didn't challenge the damp man to drink 5% of his body weight in water taking him from 95% water to 100% water and then he could just mop up the remains

Joe Beck

I'm shocked that no one stuck him in rice.

Squirrely_Wrath

Ok, I have to say about the boomerang comments in the intro. . . The first time in my life to ever be knocked out cold was by a boomerang. As a kid, I had been frustratedly throwing this thing for hours with absolutely no success. In a fit of anger, I chuckled it as hard as I could and stomped off. As I was walking away, I looked up and saw some people (who I'm sure had enjoyed the show thus far) pointing at me. I couldn't figure out why so I turned around just in time to catch it with my forehead. Lights out from a cheap piece of plastic I had essentially thrown at my own head.

I think I speak for everyone in saying that we need an episode devoted to Da3p 3an: 3Fast 3Furious.

Richard Upton Sinclair Lewis Pickman

I like it, little bit of Frankenstein, little bit of his monster, little Dr. Moreau, maybe? The best bit is definitely the ‘I will inject you with my KY-jelly blood and take over the world!’

Richard Upton Sinclair Lewis Pickman

I gave that a try when I was a kid, as well. It was probably some Nerf product or something and I never gained even this level of success in making it return. Of course, I also grew up with Lawn Darts, so I had a healthy degree of paranoia about something I threw coming back to pierce my skull.

MonsterTalk

Of course he had to have a competitive swimmer to establish his RACE of Soupermen!

Gideon Falcon

~I keep a little damp under my pillow for the Damp Man, in case he comes to town~

Richard Horsman

I started imagining this story as one of those industrial training films from the 50s, and it really tickled me. Something like “Cornet Presents: Getting Along With Your New Employer”.

Our old pal Brendan Gardiner

I was hoping and hoping toward the end that the story would pivot to the doctor having conned the Damp Man into believing that he could pull off the procedure when in reality he had just been stalling until he could find a way out of the situation and get away clean with the presumed payment. We find out that he has pushed the procedure back by a few days several times until now he’s completely out of excuses and has to put up or shut up. “Why oh why did I think an opportunity to escape clean was just going to present itself?” he asks himself. “This was a mistake. There’s really no other way to look at it.”

Rafe Ball

And they missed the opportunity for this second installment to be "Damp Man 2 - Hydroelectric Boogaloo"

Cameron A. McCormick

The Damp Man Again has not been well-summarized online. It centers around George discovering the Damp Man’s diary and flashbacks to Remsdorf’s earlier dickish exploits. But in the end… [[Spoilers: George becomes the new Damp Man and continues the plan with Linda!]]

witchhousemedia

WHAT?!?! I don't know why, but that has SHOCKED me. -CF

Ethan Cordray

Wow, I thought for sure the twist was going to be that Lothar Jr. was actually Lothar Sr. and had faked his own death and come back as his "son" to hide his transformation. I was not prepared for the twist to be Dad Is a Mad Scientist But Actually Good. Zowie!

Mark Simmons

I love that ending! It almost retroactively justifies the thin characterization of the leads. I was wondering why you guys weren't going to cover it, but maybe there'll be a suitable theme month for it later on. I hope you can get Travis back so he can narrate the flashbacks in his awesome Damp Voice.

Cameron A. McCormick

My favorite part was when George was goofing around on The Stage That Turns You Into A Damp Man and it takes several days of his famous thinking to realize what the word ON was referring to. And I guess Remsdorf was haunting a painting (?!)

Richard Horsman

Agree with Mark Simmons, Travis's Damp voice was awesome. Like if Droopy Dog broke bad.

Rafe Ball

And not to forget the cancelled 4th installment - D4mp M4n: D4mp H4rder

Fraser Burnett

Swimming in the Damp Man had me lolling loudly.

Its Mr Bat Man To You

“Just when you thought you'd gotten dry”…. This story comes to…make me wet again? It wasn’t THAT good.

Anne Ominous

Sounds oddly specific: the voice of experience there?

Anne Ominous

Too Damp; too ambiguous! What new things did we learn about Linda this go round? Her boyfriend, the main character, describes her as in her 'early 20s' and that she has a supple waist. Ooh lala! And what was Georgie's plan at the castle? He didn't even show up with a shaker of salt! Chekov's gun couldn't even have predicted that ending!

Stewart

This story, much like Good Lady Ducayne, feels surprisingly relevant now that we're in the era of billionaire dorks, who having grown up on sci-fi and fantasy, are trying to make themselves immortal. You can easily see some tech bro reading The Damp Man and concluding "Immune to bullets? Why I should make myself a damp man!"

Jim Cannon

Feels even more like a Universal sequel. Stakes are raised, the villain has lackeys, a secondary villain appears (a Dr. Pretorius type), and a completely different way of dispatching the monster. Pure pulp, but good pulp!

Jim Cannon

Also, what the hell was George's plan? Sneaking up and getting captured was the result of thinking like he'd never thought before?!

Gideon Falcon

I keep a little Damp under my pillow for the Damp Man, so he won't take me down~

Gideon Falcon

It really is irritating, to me, the trend you mentioned where intelligence is so repeatedly demonized as a tool of EVIL, where only meat-headed jocks can be Good. There's just this deep, abiding distrust of anyone with skills or knowledge you don't understand, and an urge to insist they're "cheating." This manifests in how often the villain ends up much, much stupider than they're claimed to be, because the stupid hero uses the bare minimum of strategy (enough that the lowest common denominator of viewer can follow) and it completely blindsides the evil "tactical genius" or supercomputer, or whatever. It's the same impulse that drives conspiracy theorists to assume they understand a field of science more than the experts, because the consensus theories don't make "common sense," and they don't want to admit that something they don't understand could be true.

Artemis

The ending of this one shocked me...how did George and Linda escape their bonds? Why does he need to come up with a story to tell her what happened? Wasn't she there?? But most importantly: Are you telling me Sr stopped to help them out instead of just dissolving his science son and then peacing out? No way!!! In my head canon, he does his thing, leaves, and George is still tied to a chair and Linda is on the table and both of them have a long think about life, death, and whether they should pick up some new personality traits

Artemis

Hey, it takes time to learn a new skill - we don't always get it right the very first time we try

Professor Murder

The Damp Man has big Proto Shuggoth energy, but I gotta be real, contemporary jokes about the word "damp" just make the name nullify much of the body horror menace the character might otherwise have. Delightfully goofy.

Daniel Weber

I liked the description of the “breech cloth lying . . . slack as a towel” I’d like to see “slacken your breech cloth” become a euphemism for dying like “kick the bucket” or “buy the farm.”

It's a Ghost.

The Damp Man Returns! And So Does His father!

Jason Zuleger

The Damp Man reminds me of an over-filled Stretch Armstrong.

C. F. Cline

The Damp Man aka “Dampire in Brooklyn” a moderately decent follow up to the original, but I still felt like there was a lot of missed opportunities, especially for George and his storming of the gates of Remsdorf’s pad. A little more on a solid plan of attack on his part would’ve been welcomed. Remsdorf gives off a Fat Face/Kaspar Gutman vibe for sure

Andrew Neisess

Hard to believe I was mentioned finally after 7 years membership! At least I think I was mentioned because it was my old account name being called. Can’t be positive someone isn’t using my old alias to confuse me.

Exanimus

I bet the Damp Man is so annoying at the gym. Never wipes down the equipment when he's done.

Thomas Paynter

I bet the whole inspiration for these stories was that the author heard the "humans are 70% water" factoid and thought, "what if there was a human who was 95% water?" Thus are story ideas born.
