Really looking forward to this one. For all my love of Lovecraft, I still consider Poe the all-time GOAT weird writer. The Sultan of Swat. The Colossus of Clout (the Colossus of Clout). THE GREAT BAM-BIIIIINOOO.

Tale of the Ragged Mountains is cool!! Definitely Dreamlands adjacent.

It's a Ghost.

In the early 2000s I picked up a used paperback collection of Poe short stories from the 1960s (which smells wonderfully like it's from the 1960s). Also, it includes Tale of the Ragged Mountains! So years later when I read Lovecraft's "Polaris," I was like, "This reminds me so much of that Poe story."

I still maintain a subscription to Voluminous because hope never dies. There might be another episode some day. I am not particularly conversant with Poe, and after all the build up and given the way "The Imp of the Perverse" begins, I thought it was one of those science articles of Poe's that Andrew mentioned. As pleasant as it is to have Andrew's voice in my ears, all that phrenology talk made my eyes glaze over, but suddenly when talk of murder and fetters came up I was all attention. It turned out to be another version of "The Tell-Tale Heart" but it was a pretty neat alternate version. Wasn't expecting that at all!

A fantastic reading, but the phrase ‘will-I nill-I’ is stuck in my head like the earworms that Poe describes later on. Is this an archaic form of willy nilly, or a literary joke tying a haphazard and unfocused approach to the Shakespearian ‘to be or not to be’ sentiment?

As always, it's a treat to hear from Sean and Andrew. I've only scratched the surface of their Poe readings but, as you all noted, like everyone it's been fun making discoveries both listening to tales I know well and hearing works I never knew existed. Given their propensity to create projects in parallel, I look forward to whatever Sean and Andrew are brewing up next. It was interesting to hear them _not_ tease us about upcoming projects. Which makes me wonder about what they have cooking...

Man, I really love it when you two just talk with the HPLHS guys. I would love a "just a conversation" type of bonus episode with them every so often
