I haven't listened to this episode yet, but if the SQUID MAN is a reference to the 2013 NecronomiCON show, then I am STOCKED to get started on this episode (and break my rule to only listen to new shows while at work)

So many things to comment! Everytime I hear you say my name i think yes! You are knowing me! But not yet well enough to add you on Facebook every time your faces appear on the people you might know section. For august please watch Evil dead burn, it's out now and im seeing it this weekend with my mum. And Chris! I have been dming since the pandemic and I actually get paid to do one shots now, and I just started a post graduate diploma in psychology through the University of Auckland. Its never too late to change careers. Not saying you should stop the podcast though

Such a fun episode. The listening experience is always rewarding for me, but this time it was downright exciting. I like to play your shows while I clean the dishes, and this evening while doing so I reached for a washcloth that was crumpled up in the corner of the counter near the sink. I lifted it toward my face to give it the sniff test to see if maybe it needed to be tossed into the laundry bin, and as I un-crumpled it, maybe twenty screws came flying out of it and went everywhere. I shouted in alarm. If a full-grown hawk had flown out of the washcloth at my face I would not have been more surprised than I was. There is a logical explanation - I found out our 12 year old was responsible and had their reason for the screws being there - but in that moment, just following a spot in the show where you guys discussed the nature of reality, it was as if the rules of the universe I thought I knew were momentarily suspended. Like I said, great episode.

The Spider Incident

Hey guys, drummer here! No. I cannot imagine getting headbutted by goat would make me a better drummer. And I'm not interested in checking.

Hey Chad! Since you confirmed we're friends by proxy it'd be cool if you had bass tab for the Dancing Fiend bassline lying around that you could share with your best proxy friend ever!

God, yes, horror movies are so good right now. I would watch them every night if I weren’t busy raising small children. Horror movies are one of the few things from my childhood that has just gotten better and better (or maybe, my tastes have also grown with the times, unlike some other things which I’ve become a grumpy old man about? 🤔😂). The 80s had some great horror, but they also had the overwhelming fandom of stupid slasher movies which were so misogynistic and were essentially about rooting for Freddy and Jason to kill more people. Like a horror version of Schwarznegger style action heroes. That strain of horror is so much smaller now and I am so happy about it.

You leave out an important part of the story of Job; in the end, God not only restored everything Job lost, but increased it all twofold. Endurance pays off.

Squid Man was a Darkest of the Hillside Thickets show, I'd recognize Toren Atkinson's voice (and music) anywhere 💚

Also, Providence-area costumed performance group Big Nazo, which has frequently been part of the convention and is playing again this year, does have lots of Cthulhoid costuming; I can't remember if they were around as part of the same set.

1. My partner and I unexpectedly got to meet one of the military goats, the late Lance Corporal Shenkin III, in 2014 at Cardiff Castle. It's definitely worth an image search for how these critters and their Goat Majors are kitted out. 2. I don't know about prison cats, but our dog is totally able to turn most of her chew toys into shivs. 3. When I had Third Man Syndrome, it was just an eerie zither soundtrack that followed me everywhere.

I find that this makes the story of Job more disturbing, not less. It’s further evidence of the Old Testament god seeing human lives as interchangeable chattel, like “thank you for being tortured for the sake of my argument, you now have twice as many children as you used to. You’re welcome.”

I agree with Cole on this one, I'm afraid. G-D didn't restore, He replaced. I never lost a wife and kids, but if I would remarry and have more kids, they wouldn't replace those that I lost, if that makes sense. (I hope I'm not coming off as antagonistic in this)1

Dude your comment and everything about it was so well done and hilarious I loved every second of both it as well as the reading of it and subsequent reaction to it lol

SeekerOfTruth

Brendan’s comment, your guys reading and reaction to it; was hilarious and a joy to listen to haha. I loved every second of this feedback. This community is great. Thank you guys.

I have a photograph of the Welsh Fusiliers goat from when I met him in Parliament Square, one foggy evening when walking to the bus stop on my way home. The OIC kindly let me take a snap. My favourite animal officer is the penguin at Edinburgh Zoo, Major General Sir Nils Olav III, currently the world's highest ranked penguin.

Completely unrelated to your comment, but I just realized your Patreon name included "Our old pal...". I always thought that you were Chris's and Chad's old pal haha

Okay, now that I've had enough sleep to commit with some sense: - On parasocial relationships: I always feel uncomfortable with meeting podcast hosts in public (like I would be uncomfortable in reaching out if I was in your general area), unless it's at a Con. I initially went to the NecromiCON in 2022 to meet the two of you, but instead I had the time of my life and ended up going again in '24 and again this year. - In regards to Kenneth Heights being in Elden Ring, Miyazaki, the game director (who also directed Dark Souls 1, 3, and Bloodborne) is interested in Lovecraft. Additionally, George RR Martin wrote the background lore for Elden Ring. I would assume with a great deal of confidence that both would come across Ken Hite in their readings/research of Lovecraft. - Tabletop RPGs do seem to be good in mental health, but I use them during job interviews (when asked what I do outside of work) and relate TTRPGs as teambuilding exercises, improvisation skills, and creative problem solving skills. -Lastly, the Colonel Fred Jones cat, my first thought was Fred from Scooby Doo

He is! He was Chad's roommate in college, and I befriended him through Chad. Brenden is a delight.

Awww. Thanks, Chris. Sorry Robby H. I was going to respond to this myself, but I couldn’t figure out how to do it without sounding like I was throwing down a weird brag. “Well, actually, Robby H., unlike YOU…” What happened was, I was using just my name for a handle at first, but I threw “our old pal” in front of it because that’s how Chris referred to me after I made my first comment. I liked hearing it and I thought it would make him laugh to be made to say it the next time he chose to share a comment from me. Chris and Chad are two terrific folks in my life from way back, but this podcast is far and away the majority of my interaction with them, which makes me wonder just what the degree of difference is in my enjoyment of the show versus a listener who’s not a personal friend. I bet it’s not really all that much! I get the sense that everyone feels like they’re in the warm embrace of friendship listening to these two chaps.
