Airdate: 3/8/2012

We’re shadowing HPL again, and we’re joined by reader Andrew Leman plus composer Reber Clark!

The opening musical excerpt was us sampling DJ Shadow sampling good ol’ Stan Lee: DJ Shadow’s Theme.

The closing excerpt was a 1920s recording of Me and My Shadow by The Victor Orchestra & Nat Shilkret.

We’ll be back next week to finish up – don’t forget to donate for those readings of The Temple and The Hound!

It's interesting to hear the talk about good TV in 2026. Back in 2012 we were having a golden age of TV, probably fueled by DVD sales. In 2026 it's long over. I do believe we're having a golden age of horror movies, though. Big budget Hollywood movies are dying, but low-budget horror movies are still generating profit.

One thing that Shadow Out of Time has (besides the human element) that really draws me is the whole Secret History of the World element. It's the same reason I like The Mound, Out of the Aeons, and At the Mountains of Madness--I really like reading stories about ancient races and what their societies were like, and it's even better because it's supposed to be the secret history of Earth, not just an alien planet (though also sometimes an alien planet). It's not as good as Mountains of Madness or Call of Cthulhu, though, Chad's right about that.

Oh, the innocence and optimism of 2012.
