Oh yeah, I almost forgot that Chad had killed Prince.

As I listened to this episode, I slowly recognized the plot because The October Game was adapted for Shock SuspenStories; it being EC Comics and all, I just assumed he really did cut her up. It wasn't until I heard Chris's interpretation that I even stopped to consider the brilliant ambiguity of the ending.

Being published in 1948 puts this six years before the Senate Subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency - the point when pearl-clutching fundies began to put the squeeze on weird fiction in comics. I wonder, though, if it was wise to imply rather than spell out the horror, back then, so as to sidestep the moral panic? (I think the daugher was in bits: all that was idiotic was that putting the lights on meant that everyone was traumatised.) Bradbury clearly showed maturity beyond his years and this was a lovely, grusome little short. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
