I forgot about this! But I just listened and now 2023 is off to a much better start.

Candelabras are to treasure as baguettes are to groceries.

What inhuman monsters dislike these episodes?!

Manimal! You've made my Christmas wish come true :)

Everytime you say, "Lydia", in my head Groucho Marx is singing, 'Lydia, the Tattooed Lady.'

As a fellow 70s/80s kid with a lot of nostalgic tendencies, I've spent a lot of time revisiting the media of that era. I've always observed that the styles, fashions, and general look and feel of movies/tv that people often think of when they think of "the 80s" didn't really start happening until '83 or even '84. It always seems to take a couple of years for a decade to find its own identity - the early 70s feel like the really late 60s, the early 90s just feel like more of the 80s, and so on. I could probably write a whole doctoral thesis about this if I were a post-grad in cultural studies instead of just a lazy middle-aged guy sitting on his couch listening to some dudes talk about Manimal.

A very good friend of mine who I used to make music with passed away 10 years ago. He used to tell me about Manimal, and even included some lyrics in multiple songs about JC with special attention to the very plush stuffed animal paws that would magically sprout claws. We were doing this music over 20 years ago and had dial-up at the time so actually obtaining anything other than screenshots on the early web was impossible. I never did find an episode to stream (granted I did not try too hard), so this makes me feel just a little closer with my dearly missed friend. Thank you so much, this was very special and entertaining for me.

Two things guys. Chris you said you watched it in your cellar…did Rachel kick you out and wouldn’t let you watch it in the living room. Also is cellar your man cave or are you huddling over a black and white tv in a root cellar. Chad, “there’s a horde of treasure so it’s fantasy month.” Because the shape shifting animal man isn’t fantasy enough. All jokes aside keep it coming boys been listening since 2012 I believe and don’t plan to stop.

Recapping Manimal is absolutely a ridiculous waste of time, and I absolutely love it!

Finally, a chance for my Mad Max knowledge to be useful. The location of the setting is post apocalyptic Australia so of course The Feral Kid in Mad Max 2 (The Roadwarrior in the US) has a sharpened metal boomerang. He uses it to attack Wez, Lord Humungus’s lead Dog of War, which results in a character’s (The Toadie) loss of fingers and eventually Wez’s lover, The Golden Youth, being boomeranged to death. Fun fact, Lord Humungus’s Marauders are composed of several groups with the two most prominent being The Gayboy Berserkers and The Smegma Crazies.

Manimal! This was appointment viewing in my household as a child, as indeed anything resembling a superhero was (The Powers of Matthew Star, anyone?). Naturally I had no concept of "mid-season replacement" or anything, so I was completely puzzled as to why, when the next Fall rolled around, there was no more Manimal. This mini-series is certainly filling in the gaps. This show was clearly terrible.

As terrible as the idea of running out of future Manimal! episodes for you fine gentlemen to cover, might I humbly suggest looking into the spiritual sibling of Manimal, another Glen Larson show called The Highwayman about a secret Law Enforcement agency who drove weird, futuristic Tractor Trailers. It was bizarre and inexplicable, the kind of TV that only really managed to exist in the 80s. It also featured a weird Australian who was credited as Jacko, who was most notable for being a shouty, spike-haired guy from an energizer advertisement. I think it would make for a fine successor for the sad day when the Manimal well runs dry. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Highwayman_(TV_series)

Still prepping my sequel, "Humansect".

Eric S. Vallone, M.D.

Meeno Peluce co-starred in the time-travel show, “Voyagers!” With the late Jon-Erik Hexum. Hexum would tragically die on the set of his show, “Cover-Up” by an accidental self-inflicted blank cartridge gunshot to the head.

Ethan Cordray

It took me the whole episode to figure out that the old guy was a sailor named Seadog, not a rapper named C-Dawg.

Kolchak! Please do Kolchak for extra credit! Also, may I suggest the story "How love came to Professor Guildea" for a mid-February Valentine's show?

Robert Reineke

Kolchak would be a ton of fun. May I also suggest perhaps some Lovecraftian comics? Early, 1940s, Dr. Fate was clearly a Lovecraft pastiche. Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson did a Lovecraft tribute in Swamp Thing #8. Wrightson did a direct adaptation of Cool Air. Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham could be fun. I'm sure there are a ton more suggestions.

Forrest Rush

I thought you guys did all of Kolchak already, or was it jsut the tv movie/pilot. If not, then I second/third whatever doing all of the eps and even the X-Files eps in which Arthur Dales continues Kolchak's work. All excellent tv horror.
