We're talking about your takes on vintage weird - it's the feedback show!

Here's that scene from Dunston Checks In. Wow.

When I was about 10 I was lying in my bed waiting for sleep to overtake me and I heard a rustling noise below me over on the floor. I looked over the edge of my bed and watched, frozen, while a massive Carolina Wolf Spider picked its way across my floor headed directly towards me and disappeared underneath my bed. I did not look under the bed to see where it went. I jumped up and ran out to sleep in the living room. Didn’t come back into my room for like a week. I love spiders now but that event freaked me out for a long time.

Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd actually shot a scene in Central Park playing those two bums in the Ghostbusters novelisation. Murray is 100% channelling Carl Spackler from Caddyshack. It's pretty easy to find on YouTube. Lewis runs past them, interrupting their conversation, and at the end it looks like they react to a Terror Dog leaping by, so for one brief night of madness they may actually have thought the scene had a chance of making the cut.

Gnossiennes, Kno (as in Knock)- Sea-Enn was right but Satie has equal emphasis on both syllables, Sah-Tee (as in Teen).

Love the call back to William Hope Hodgson! (banging a tin cup on the bars) do The Night Land, do The Night Land, do The Night Land

I have a recommendation you guys should cover some of the Karl Edward Wagner Kane stories, the first collection Night Winds is on kindle for only a few dollars, I've been reading them recently and I think they're great and Wagner really is playing on sword and sorcery tropess but using them in very different unique ways. Obviously he was deeply immersed into the old weird tales and sword and sorcery so its really cool to see how he works in the genre in such a different way.

To be read jokingly: I swear to God Chris, if you like Scooby Doo: Return to Zombie Island and didn't like the original movie I will physically fight you at the NecronomiCon

I think the "Scoobynatural" episode works well enough as a standalone so that you don't need to have watched the previous 13 or so years of the series. Another good one is the season-four episode "Monster Movie," which, apart from a few lines of dialogue at the beginning referring to some past events, is completely enjoyable on its own as a black-and-white homage to Universal Monsters, guest starring an excellent Todd Stashwick (more recently of "Picard" fame). The episode is even set during an Oktoberfest so that there's an excuse for background extras to be dressed in Lederhosen.

Eldritch Golem (JPM)

I need to thank Richard Horsman (+ Chris & Chad) for introducing me to Terry Bisson's "Bears Discover Fire" a story I had no idea existed before listening to this episode. I just finished it and it was just as amazing as I hoped it would be. Would love for it to be covered on a future episode. I have a penchant for "weird bear" stories and always looking for recommendations. Another one I recommend is "The Command" by L. Sprague de Camp, partly because I can't believe de Camp hasn't gotten a story on either show yet.

Avlin Starfall

You know, because of the implication.

In this episode I learned that Vladimir Lenin's remains were a tangible example of the Ship of Theseus question. What a world!

Hi all, thanks for including my comment! Back when I made that initial goal of "reading for fun again" (which seems like such a low key goal, but here we are) I decided I'd try for 25 books within the year (finished six so far...). But yea, your coverage of Aickman helped to motivate that; I really wanted to read these stories first based on your intro to The Hospice, so at this point I've read all the ones I can find at my library (which is most of them according to the internet) but frustratingly not "The Stains", so I'll have to wait on that one. It is still 'hard' to sit down to read after spending 10-12 hours a day teaching/grading papers, researching, writing, etc. But, it's worth it. For anybody else who's life has boxed them out of that I recommend making the effort if you can. Next up is one of my partner's favorite book, The Night Circus :) Have a great day all!

I’m rereading Dracula & I realized that Jonathan Harker stays at Castle D for like a month…so in addition to cooking that delicious chicken, as you guys have pointed out, I guess Drac is doing dishes?!

It's a Ghost.

As someone who *only* ever watched the the first 5 seasons of Supernatural, I just watched the Scooby Doo episode of the show for the first time and found it to be absolute perfection. It was so much fun and so true to both shows.
