My car has been making awful grinding noises lately and even dying at stoplights, so one of My guy friends offered to take a quick look at it.

He popped the hood, checked the oil, and immediately looked at Me like, β€œDolly… when was the last time you checked this?”

And I just blinked at him and said:

β€œI didn’t. I didn’t want to get My nails dirty.” πŸ’…πŸ»

He laughed.

Not mean. Not cruel. Just that perfectly teasing little oh my god, you silly girl laugh that made something in My brain melt.

Then he hooked up his little car-computer-doohickey, checked for codes, looked up how much oil My car needed, checked prices, found a nearby place that could change it for Me, and even had a coupon texted to My phone.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, I realized…

This is what I mean when I talk about becoming impractically pretty.

It starts with the nails.

Then suddenly you don’t want to reach into dirty engine bays. You don’t want to chip your manicure opening cans. You wear gloves to wash dishes. You need help with tiny clasps. Your hair needs attention. Your skin needs attention. Your toes need to stay pretty. Your whole life starts quietly reorganizing itself around being soft, polished, pampered, and feminine.

And maybe sometimes someone looks at you, smiles, shakes their head, and helps you anyway.

Because good dollies are very capable girls.

They just might have prettier things to worry about. πŸŽ€πŸ’…πŸ»πŸ©·

And yes, My car is getting properly looked after now. Apparently even impractically pretty girls need functioning transportation. πŸ’…πŸ»
