So a lot goes into this. 1 the directors passed the author and rushed this final season (the books aren’t done and likely won’t be because I feel like since the show is done the author feels no need anymore, even tho he himself didn’t like what they did with this final season/ending ) the directors got a new series to direct from Disney (which they got fired from I believe) so they rushed this season to start that. 2 the dragon was blocking the entrance to the gods wood which is why Jon kept trying to go that way. 3 the dragons are viserion named after her brother who drogo killed earlier , rhaegal named after her brother rhaegar (Jon’s dad) and drogon named after khal drogo. Dracarys basically means dragonfire in Valyrian which is why she always says it, not their name lol

this is the most stressful thing i’ve ever watched. i genuinely think i’ve just developed high blood pressure. i knew we would lose people but bro. I shed a few tears. give me back theon man.. this show is so stressful. I KNEW THE CRYPTS WERE A BAD IDEA!!!!! Jon had literally seen the Night King do that hand thing and revive the wights before , why would he think it was smart to keep the most vulnerable people in a secluded space with bodies waiting to be revived? I agree with your final thoughts. We have 2 injured dragons, zero dothraki, like four surviving unsullied and arya. Yeah there’s no way we’re beating Cersei, sorry. Lyanna man.

THIS EPISODE WAS CRAZYYYY - I almost had a heart attack reacting to it hahaa wish it was a little bit clearer to see tho

The fact that I would love to watch this episode right now but I literally have to wait until the sun goes down in my condo because I already know what the visibility level it is going to be 🤣🤣🤣🤣

This is some World War Z type shit I love this episode but I also have issues with the lighting. I remember when this aired, twitter was going crazy about how dark it was and you couldn’t see shit. Anytime I rewatch this episode I have to watch in a pitch black room with the brightness on my phone/tablet at 100% 😂 I also have an issue with Danys army after this battle because it shows her losing a significant amount of Dothraki and Unsullied yet afterwards it seems like she still has soooooo much/the same amount she started with This episode gave me so much anxiety and it doesn’t help they added a drum beat/heartbeat sound that made my anxiety worse

Little Lyanna, probably the smallest fighter taking down the biggest thing (besides dragons) 😭😭😭😭 Theon 😭😭😭😭😭 side note, imagine how tiring it is to constantly, nonstop draw a bow Unfortunately the books are not to this part. The showrunners just made up their own plots after they stopped consulting the author. They rushed everything like crazy. The author wanted at least 12 season. Right now I believe the books are as far as where Dany escapes the fighting pits riding drogon for the first time in Mereen

Itami

The night king isnt even a thing in the books🥴

It's winter coming 😭😭 RIP Edd I know Melisandre is fucking old but MA'AM can you walk faster than a leisurely stroll????? Rip Little Lyanna RIP Beric Jk he's still alive Oh JK he's actually dead now Oh shit he's still alive!! dead.... ALIVE!! dead. That moment with Arya and Melisandre made me realize how badly Arya needed a woman around to be soft to her. Like yes, being around men did help her survive but as a child she needed that obvious love and reassurance. (Not saying a man can't provide that but let's be real here, she didn't exactly get that from anyone she was around when she was by herself) You know what would've been super fucking cool? Remember how Tyrion was the one who freed Viserion and Rhaegal and they didn't kill him? It would've been super cool to see his bond with them delevop, maybe he's lonely after Shae and so he goes down there every day and talks with them. Gets to the point where they really trust him and he ends up being the second dragon rider. Jon is cool too but again, feels rushed because he just met the dragons and they immediately liked him cause Targ blood I guess? Idk. I feel like it would've been cool to see Tyrion be good at war like he was once Then Jon could've been the one who kills the Night King since it was kinda prophesized Then Arya can take care of Euron or Cersei or whoever using her face stealing shit It would've been so funny if one of the dragons accidentally hit Jon with fire while trying to protect him and of course he's a Targ so he doesn't die but now he's in the middle of the biggest war in the history of humanity...butt fucking naked. Actually that could've been a bit. Drogon is constantly angry he's having sex with his momma so he constantly embarrasses Jon by leaving him in the middle of places naked It's actually so funny now that you say that. Yeah, why didn't the night king just throw a fucking spear at Bran? He did it with the dragon 😭😭 he really seems to like his slow dramatic entrances though I guess RIP Theon :((( Fuck, Jorahs death got me crying a little. This man really went through so much to prove his loyalty to Dany. He loved her but never asked for her in any way other than to let him protect her. He truly just believed in her and wanted her to succeed. RIP :(( I feel bad for Melisandre now that I think about it. The lord of light literally wouldn't let her die until she wasnt useful to him anymore. Before when she took off her necklace I think she wanted to die but the lord wasn't ready. She can finally be at peace now I think. Rip Melisandre. I wonder if white walkers specifically have to be stabbed by dragon glass or could they have just pelted them with tiny bitd of it I actually kind of feel like not enough people died. Outside of Theon, I don't think any MAIN characters actually died. Jorah feels like a supporting character to Dany so I wouldn't necessarily call him a MAIN main character. Theon was the only one who had his own ark outside of the Starks, Targs, and, Lannisters So like 1.5 main characters? For the greatest war to ever happen, that is kinda low.

LMAOOO I love how notorious this episode is for being hard to watch. I remember when I first watched it I was still sharing a room with my sister and we were watching on a shitty TV. We had to turn off all the lights and clocks and everything that added a reflection to the screen lol

Daniela V.

Still makes me :') that Jon is riding the dragon named after his dad

chelsey

i agree with dani, i don't think enough people died. this was the big bad thing they've been talking about for the entire show. one main character died & they ended the war in an episode. that's crazy. side note: i had to pause when melisandre was doing her spells or whatever for the fire because i just kept hearing "elon musk" & got the giggles lmao i like what they were trying to do with having it so dark. it was effective in some moments, portraying the confusion & fear & anxiety. but they def could have made it clearer in other moments

a2r

wait is there a top council of the top 6 white walkers in the books?

Itami

The books are left incomplete so we are completely in the dark lol. They are called “the others” in the books, we don’t know their exact origin or even their actual motives yet. Nothing about a leader figure either. The book talks a lot about their beauty, about them having armor that changes colors etc. So far they are still kind of more like legend than an actual direct threat. The show diverges a lot from the books at a certain point too (a lot of characters are very different too) and the author has said that we should treat the show and the books separately so I’m assuming he doesnt intend to keep the changes or developments that happen in the show. (Thankfully)

"Dracarys" is a command. 🔻 The High Valyrian word for •Dragonfire• ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡ The dragons name are; ☆Drogon for Khal Drogo ☆Viserion for Viserys (golden crown brother) ☆Rhagal for Rhaegar (Danys oldest brother - Jons father) ----- The Red Woman said "I have to die in this strange country [meaning Westeros as a foreigner] as do you dear spider" [So not Winterfell persay. ]just FYI. ----- 1:06:03 ; in that one shot; Kit harrington[Jon] got hit with all that falling debris but kept going! Ahah😱😅 ------ I hope I can safely say this but by a quick;often missed; statement next episode and this episode together. They did an absolute HORRENDOUS job on depicting that HALF her Dothraki and Unsullied LIVED through that. They DID definitely make it seem like all her forces got decimated. 🤦‍♀️ That is just reckless directing imo. ------ Imo, it would have been way better if Arya would have turned into solid ice from that throat grab but before her arms turn to be solidified, she still stabs him and she smashes into a million pieces along with the Night King. 🗡 I know you said you'd make an announcement about HotD but just wanted to say really hope you end up watching it. 🥂 Keep up the epic work 🤩

Welcome to my long freaking rant about Ghost… There’s a lot about this episode that just made me really freaking upset. But Ghost. My poor baby Ghostie. Why the FUCK would they send him with the first wave of fighters when he doesn’t have ANYTHING to protect himself against wights?? No fire, no dragon glass, just his damn teeth and claws. Where is the logic in that?? Like there’s no way that would have been something he chose to do on his own lmfao. I know he ends up being fine and everything minus some battle wounds, but that still made me so mad. I also know that it’s hard with the cgi and stuff with the wolves, but they should have not had him included in this episode at all LIKE THEY’VE BEEN DOING, or put him in the crypt with all the people down there as extra protection. My hot take on Ghost is that they should have had him grow up to be the runt they assumed he would be at the beginning instead of making him so huge and they could have just gotten a really big husky or something to play him.

*long comment incoming* I do want to share a really fun memory from season 8. It's the only time I can remember a show being so universally popular with people that I knew that we actually did in-person watch parties. Like showing up 5-6 homies deep to somebody's house at 9: 00pm on a Sunday when we all had work the next day just so we could watch this in real time together. And we were gagged! (I must say, while it was still kind of dark either they remastered it or these newfangled TVs are a lot better because when I say the TV watching experience the first time was nearly indistinguishable. This was dark but it felt more intentional rather than poor editing) The show's strength is always battles. The previous episode showed so much of the pre-battle tension but starting it off and watching all those Dothraki swords just get put out is crazy. Not to mention the horde of zombies crushing in. If I was there in real time I would have been like "we are cooked like what do you even want me to do?! I don't THINK it was the plan for Dany to go in with the dragons at all. she was supposed to stay with Jon where they were but I think she said enough is enough and went in there and he followed her. At least that's how I read it. The thing that you said was the plan. All of these tactics are just stalling the army of the dead and having Bran lure in the night King. They were way too outnumbered to do anything else even with the dragons. Somebody else mentioned it but the book material ended it back in season 5. We've been winging it alongside the show-only watchers since then 🤣. Too many RIPs in this one man but all our known characters really went out like champs. I must call out that I don't think a character has full circled a redemption arc as strongly Theon Greyjoy. That last 15 minutes with the muted audio and the piano. Beautiful cinema, gorgeous and terrifying. At the time there were some criticisms of Arya being the one to get it done some people said it was "too random" or "obviously supposed to be Jon" but that's exactly why I love it. Let's subvert expectations of the traditional hero story. Something that we've been doing in this show throughout so why stop now?! I do agree many people were thrown off that the whole thing started and ended this episode like it was too easy. I remember kind of thinking that but watching it now I changed my mind that battle was too stressful and they really captured the feeling of an "endless night". You caught on perfectly though. The author stated that intention very clearly. We are meant to think this whole time that the army of the dead is the true enemy but there's no enemy as terrible as other human beings.

avocadoetarts

"no one" can kill the night king and arya technically is also "no one" so i guess makes sense

j

14 mins in and DAMN the silence is loud. ik it’s part of war or whatever but i kinda hate that the dothraki were essentially just sent to their deaths right away😕

j

naur lyanna 😭😭😭 miss mormont went out like a g

j

omfg that was crazy, arya >>>>>
