There's also quite a bit of discourse abt one of the trainees (the one that performed Sweat), and how he potentially may have bullied someone to the point of needing lots of therapy (iirc). Nothing absolutely official from his ex-company (wakeone, even if he was said to be an individual trainee on the show), but the receipts being dropped on twitter are scarily convincing...

Grid was created as a subsidiary under 131label, there was some messy things going on and Grid acquired 131label and became the main company. They split ways in 2024 and now are separate companies. While Grid was under 131 they even debuted a boy group called POW with one of the trianee a members (lowkey hoping he also came on with leo and sangwon)

Welp guess I'm going to bed late. I'm probably going to make a lot of small comments while I watch cuz this is just too long to try to summarize. But yeah the ZB1 stuff is painful because for one they shouldn't even have done this show until after ZB1 was either completely done or we had an extension it just doesn't feel right. I know you could argue that girls planet got replaced with I land 2 since izna is under Wakeone but it just feels so awkward to do two boys planet back to back instead of just doing girls planet. No ill will to whatever group comes out of this but automatically there is just an icky feeling if they try to market them as ZB1 replacement and they're literally have been articles about this show calling it that.

I like some of the production choices they made like showing the trainees pulling up to the studio, showing meal time etc. Answering some questions you asked throughout + my random thoughts * You didn't need to be Korean or Chinese to participate in either K or C planet. Since the original concept of the show was creating two groups, the planet refers to which market the group would have been active in, not the members origin. There are also non-Chinese trainees on C planet. Now that it's one group I'm pretty sure it's just eight spots unless they're planning to pull a fast one on us. * The concept of the 15-year-olds all being 10 years old when the pandemic hit just fries my brain. * Excellent group of masters especially enjoying who they pitch for the new additions *I'm not mad about the eliminations after every episode there are like a hundred and sixty trainees on this show we have to get to cutting and if the potential has already been assessed by the time we get to the performances I expect better performances in the first couple of rounds. * IST the original agency of The Boyz, they left last year. * I'm not overly familiar with MCND but from the little I do know I know that they are good performers and I don't want to hold this against them because for all we know they don't even want to be there and their agency is forcing them. It's always so hard to know with the debut groups especially if they haven't achieved massive popularity (I also need people to stop performing bang bang bang on survival shows. It's a hype song but it does nothing to show off your skills It's all about swag which is great but now's not the time)

* controversy aside. I think the Sweat performance wasn't bad but not three star worthy comparing who else got three. *I am willing to stand on it I think Baek Jae Hyeon(Chk chk boom guy) should have stayed with one star. The performance was objectively bad I'm not arguing that but I want to see how he would sound if he was trained and if he can pick up any dancing. His voice was cool to me. If he can't make it he'll get cut the next round but they kept worse people imo. We need at least one adorable underdog story 🤣. * I'm assuming the cute kid you're talking about from last season is Takuto? *ONF was on Road to Kingdom with Verivery and performed we must love (aka one of the greatest k-pop songs of all time) so you might remember it from there. * They tweak the original choreography once it's given to the idol group because they have to dance and sing at the same time as opposed to the choreographer who just focuses on the dance when they're creating it. I'll expose who I've been voting for so far in Planet K. No drama! Lol it's early days and subject to change. K Planet * Seo Won (idc if he hasn't gone yet) * Lee Leo * Lee Sangwon * Kang Woojin - strong contender to be my one pick although it's too early to truly do that. * Park Dong gyu * Yoo Kang Min * Kim Junseo (another personal pick) *Yoon Min (personal pick who I previously supported on Loud) but I did end up switching him out for Hsu Cing Yu at least until his audition actually comes up. Outside of my votes there are tons of people on my "to watch" In regards to watching C planet you're missing half the show without it in my opinion and the Chinese trainees are always getting the short end of the stick on these Korean shows so I hope people are generally watching both since they finally get screen time. I've totally understand the time commitment on your end though so I'd be happy with the performances at least but I wouldn't want to leave them out altogether.

Adding as I watch Yeah the first 2 episodes are going to be long since they did the k and c split but it’s worth it to watch all 4 coming out this week so much good talent I half agree it sucks to see zb1 possibly ending soon and to promote this show but they’ve been doing this for the longest in almost every show, like passing on the torch (although they should be permanent) and although not the same the wanna one members that came on the last boys planet etc like some x1 members on another show even though they didn’t last long Ist as someone mentioned was home to the boyz, Apink, weekly, victon and now only partially active is atbo, great groups but gotta do better promoting them Jaejoong created his agency for himself but recently debuted a girl group called say my name, it has one of the members from iz*one also junil that came with Masato and ryan knows was in trainee A as well, left before the final lineup For k and c they could pick whatever show they wanted to go on but im sure Koreans and Chinese were pushed for certain shows Yeah trainees ranked themselves just like last season then tested for the real rank As someone explained grid is a bit of a newer company home to new group pow which is doing pretty well, they have a member of trainee A yorch, you see it explained later lol why Leo decided to try again with sangwon, but Leo left bi’s company basically a little after rap public (reddy left too) and signed to grid with sangwon as a duo, guessing he was not happy doing it solo Yumeki is crazy to me been supporting him since SMF thought he looked like he could’ve been an idol, before he was announced for this show he did the choreo for txts comeback and illits comeback and also he didn’t tell kooyoung nor kinky he was going on this show, I hope he’s a good singer

Veriverys case sucks just because a member goes to the military and their company decides to let them fall back to nugudom and Dkb not getting the recognition they deserve (Skip for idol spoilers) I’ll say the other groups unless mnet cuts them is one from the wind, 3 from whib, the 2 from choco, junseo from 1the9/Wei, mcnd shown, two from drippin, one from blitzers Adding some since Leo is technically debuted too, there’s soloist yoonmin(former pre kickflip) under giriboys label, Jang haneum solo, as well as a few from other survival shows

Alright keeping it to one last post lol bang junhyuk/win from mcnd was also in high school rapper 4 if you remember I hope they stick with 8 on each side so like 16,(maybe that’s too much ) but like I’m fine with bigger groups like wanna one and x1, also some of their profiles mention wanting a rank lower then 8 so that’s to hoping it’s a larger group lol Kinky is part of a gay dance crew eoddae that competed on street man fighter with the other mentor kooyoung from 1million and yumeki the contestant also from 1million, kinky does a lot of choreo for girl groups/solos like aespa, red velvet, hwasa I’m still half and half on the eliminations like hell yeah I’m happy the not so good ones don’t continue to bleed my ears but damn there could’ve been some good gems or people who were just off and we don’t know Respectfully despite any controversy he has geonwoo did good he had a charm to him, but I agree two would make more sense to me with the dance and vocals but I get all star for the overall charm Yechan from choco was on project 7 that made the group close your eyes, he did really well on there so I’m glad to see him killing it so far on here Liyu is from Taiwan same with hsu chingyu from wakeone Liyu and his teammate really shows what a ok performance can be lol compared to the worse ones I will say thanatorn from what I’ve seen before is a great singer and the full video of this was better but damn did he fail himself here Leo and sangwon are both 22 they both trained with some of the enhypen boys Aish is a simplified swear word for fuck or shit I guess but in a less serious way so in a literal sense it’s like saying damn or darn lol when frustrated or at least that’s what I remember reading Ah finally at the end, I hope yumeki is going to be a good singer even a bit decent is fine, currently his Japanese fans I assume have gotten most of his individual videos for boys planet to the millions

I would also love a bigger group coming out of the survival shows. I remember hoping so badly at the finale last season that they were going to have some twist and add two more members. Why not!? At that point I've memorized all the names already. 🤣

Hi! Just joined your Patreon for the first time (I’ve wanted to for a while but then I saw you were starting boys planet and absolutely had to) I wanted to offer some input/context about this whole K vs C concept. So from my understanding, originally, it wasn’t supposed to be like Korean and Chinese trainees separated necessarily but rather just forming two separate groups. 1 that debuts in Korea and focuses on the domestic market and one that debuts in China and focuses on the Chinese market. Technically you can be of any nationality and choose to join either the K or C planet depending on what kind of group you want to be in but of course the majority of C group happens to be Chinese contestants and the Korean group has trainees of other nationalities. I’m actually not sure there are any Chinese contestants currently on K planet (most of the Chinese sounding names you hear are actually Taiwanese contestants there) but I don’t think there was like an official rule stating that Chinese contestants couldn’t be on K planet as well. Initially, there was never this K like versus C concept. They were supposed to be 2 completely separate shows basically that would have similar/same structure and that would air at the same time. And then the boys would be under the same company and debut at the same time but they weren’t going to interact necessarily throughout the survival show from my understanding (someone correct me if I’m wrong though). I don’t think they ever released the official reason as to why, but Mnet ended up scrapping this idea. It could have been from internal company conflict, or the backlash the they received from structuring the show this way (because a lot of people had qualms about the concept and felt it was a way to keep Chinese contestant from debuting in a kpop group since ZhangHao placed first last season and there is a lot of discourse about how Ricky is treated by wakeone) but ultimately I think this is up for speculation. Because they decided to scrap the original concept AFTER casting, they had to restructure the show which is why it is starting as separately K and C, but only for the 1st two weeks and then will merge into one group. That’s why the K trainees were shocked to learn about the planet and merging thing because it wasn’t presented that way when casting for the show and there’s a lot of discourse about how much the trainees actually know about the process and how much Mnet is choosing not to tell them (like the fact that they are now competing against double the amount of people than they thought for only 8 spots). Though I have this inclining that they will surprise increase the debut number to 9 at the very least. We don’t know yet what the rest of the show will look like, but I don’t think there will be any sort of K battling C contestants, or at least not for very long. I think they will just merge and then complete missions together (though of course this is very unclear but I hope they wouldn’t risk any more backlash by making them compete against eachother).

The reason Mnet decided on this concept in the 1st place is because for about the past decade, China has had a ban (though technically unofficial) on kpop in China. Essentially, due to restrictions and rules, Kpop groups are not allowed to perform or promote in China and there’s even a ton of regulations involving just the distribution of kpop materials. They can’t even air kpop survival shows in China so technically Chinese fans need to use VPNs and such to watch. But, there has been rumors from China that the ban is lifting this year. Which HUGE because it’s existed since the beginning of 4th gen. The Chinese market is HUGE (obviously if you just consider their population) and kpop, despite it being banned, is EXTREMELY popular there. It is an extremely lucrative market and there’s a reason so many Chinese idols choose to return there or spend a big portion of their time promoting there because they’re able to become extremely successful and make much more money (Examples, Exo Lay, Jackson Wang, The8). It’s said that this Kpop ban in China has cost the Korean Economy more than $16 billion since it began in 2016. Lifting the ban means that kpop companies now have a huge opportunity to push into the Chinese market and make a ton more of money which is why Mnet jumped on the opportunity to take advantage of this situation. A huge thing to note is that because this ban is technically unofficial, it has never been acknowledged by the Chinese government, meaning the lifting of the ban hasn’t been either. This ban is only happening because there’s essentially this large agreement and just regulations in place to not allow Kpop groups to do things such as hold concerts there or not allowing broadcast channels to broadcast kpop shows etc…. The reason there is a big belief that the ban is being lifted is because recently, more groups are starting to be allowed to perform in China and it seems like there is less restrictions and distribution etc… But again, there is no way to be sure the ban is lifting or when exactly it is so maybe that’s another reason Mnet dropped the original idea (like maybe they decided it was too risky) but who knows. Anyways…. Sorry for the crazy messages but I just wanted to provide context cause I think it’s just really interesting to hear about

During Produce 48 (the 3rd season of Produce), they had the centers of previous two seasons (Jeon Somi and Kang Daniel) MC briefly for the first episode. I don't see it as a big deal tbh but never considered that angle that Mnet is using ZB1 for PR reasons etc.. Hanbin also MCed for ILAND 2 if im not wrong
