I’m kinda stuck between normal, one more night, please, like animals and they don’t know bout us being my top 5 — but I have to include merry go round man it’s gonna be harder than I thought… 😭🔥

Jay

I’ve never genuinely had an issue, of instantly being able to choose my top 3 off my first time listening to an album…… until yesterday 😆. This project may be one of my favourites they’ve put out. I don’t expect people to like it , everyone has different tastes & sometimes opinions that they’re illustrating as “constructive criticism”. I first got into BTS in 2018, this album gave me a sense of that nostalgia. Vibes like home , paradise etc . After listening to it ( unhealthy amount of times) in no particular order my top 3 are ; Like animals , they don’t know bout us & Aliens . Closely followed by like every other song lol 😭 they did great ! Currently up waiting for the Netflix livestream

Maria Mouzouny

this is one of my favorite project loved the album so much.. hard to pick but my favorites are one more night, normal, please, fya and tehy dont know about us....super excited for the live performance on Netflix...

I was definitely skeptical listening to the first half of the album at first, but when you think about the musical creativity and liberties they took and their execution — I think it’s so admirable. I could see Tyler the Creator Influence on Hooligan, and I was getting Kanye and Frank Ocean vibes for Into the Sun. Not comparisons, but you can really see how much they love music and their hip hop roots. I don’t know about how much you know about the concept of Arirang, but BTS was definitely trying to make a statement about paving the way and bringing K-culture to US and its meant to be the opposite of them Americanizing Kpop which I think some might argue when they hear this and maybe what you anticipated because permission to dance era was so blah LOL. I love 1. Please 2. One More Night 3. They don’t know bout us 💟

Omg ant I loved this album! My top 5 definitely depends on my mood cause I feel like they change so often and it’s only been 1 day 😭 at the moment in no particular order I feel like FYA, NORMAL, they don’t know about us, aliens and merry go round! But I really loved this album! And I just finished watching your album reaction just before the Netflix live performance starts so I’m so excited for that cause many of these songs were dance songs so I’m excited to see what kind of dance they’ll do and to see them preform together again as 7 of course 😭💜

i see you going for the lighter so many times and it’s killing me lmfao 😭

I am obsessed with this album. I'm not even exaggerating when I say it is all I listened to yesterday. I'm watching this after the Netflix livestream, and I've listened to the album itself at least 4-5 times all the way through already. I don't think I realized how deprived I was of a "full" album in the K-pop industry, because every time it hit the second half, I would find myself thinking the album was done. But then another song started playing!! Made me so happy!! Even though I've had time for the album to marinate, every time the next song came on, the thought of "maybe this one is my favorite" popped up!! idk if I can honestly and accurately pick a top 5😅 I'll try though! They Don't Know Bout Us... has to be in the top somewhere, it's so good!!! I love when they talk their shxt!! Normal has to be up there, too. I'm already singing along to the lyrics!! Aliens... again I love when they talk their S., And they did so in such a cool way, with this song!! 2.0- I mean... MikeWillMadeit!! I loved this song so much!! It got me so hype! Even though it's not a typical "hype song." Lastly... maybe Hooligan. It's just so fun!! I think my favorites are going to fluctuate, except Normal and They Don't Know Bout us. Those 2 songs are just insane to me!! But literally, there is not a single skip on this album for me!! I'm so happy BTS is back. The world feels "right" again😂😂

spideykook

i love this album so much, i feel like it entirely expresses who bts is and has become. it’s such a mix of old school bts with “new” bts and who the members have become individually with their own projects. i can hear so clearly the sounds of bts i fell in love with, as well as influences from the members own albums like jitb, rpwp, golden… some of them could’ve easily been on one of the members individual albums but it means so much more we got all 7 on them all.

spideykook

also same i see so many negative comments saying it doesn’t sound like bts or its not korean enough and its all so stupid 😭 this is not to say ppl can’t have their own opinions but who are these people to say what’s bts and what’s not? the members themselves talked about how hard they worked on the album and how different it would be, which yes it is, BUT- it’s also so whole heartedly bts!! ig these ppl were looking for a single sound from them, which they’ve never done before so that’s confusing

All right let me get my summary thoughts out of the way cuz I'm going to be long-winded as usual. This album is fascinating to me in that I am struggling quite hard to solidify a top three or five or anything different songs or jumping out at me from each play. Plus I watched this directly after watching the comeback live so the performance aspect has impacted my favorites. TLDR - I do love this album. pieces of feedback I've heard (and somewhat agree with) is the marketing for this album and the album itself do feel very different. Even if I can parse through the songs and find what they meant in terms of expressing the Arirang concept and even though what is your love song promotion it is a jarring first listen (including in a good way) in terms of expectations versus what we got. On my first listen about three songs in when I realized we had gotten all high velocity tracks so far and seeing Swim placed in the middle of the album I was thinking they were going to do a two-sided album with hype at the beginning and more melodic stuff in the second half. And I feel like that's pretty much what we got. The second half of the album is what I think More fans were expecting and I hear a lot of people's favorite songs coming from this section but I love the choice to cover both in this album. They both came to party and give us introspective vibes while trying a lot of new musical sounds.

mssmercedes

Body to body - low-key this is the title track. And this isn't even my favorite song on the album but I think you know the title track when you hear it. RM has also talked about how it's not always the best song on the album but taking in factors of performance, popularity and the identity of the album. I feel like this song merges that especially with the Arirang motif at the end it seems like it was at least written to be the TT and maybe changed later. I Hooligan - On first listen to this was on my favorite list. I fear I may have gotten a little too hype and now I've calmed down lol. It's a great performance song though. I love the brash braggadocious style. In alot of ways it does sound like a Hope solo song. Aliens - I keep going back and forth on this one. Maybe on a shorter album it would stand out more for me cuz it is good it just gets lost under the rush of a bunch of other songs. it was definitely fun in performance though and I like your interpretation. Fya - absolutely love this song. It didn't click for me until my second listen and I might be sick of it by next week but right now I'm obsessed. I have a layover in Seoul next month and we're planning to get a club/bar in. My behavior if they play this song is going to be atrocious so everyone's been warned. 2.0 - this one again came alive for me when they performed it. Also you just know in that demo 'fella' was another word 🤣 Swim - obviously a unique pick for title track but as a song I do really like it. It's catchy in that mid tempo way and it does fit the concept they teased with that love song theme. It being placed here and kicking off the second half of the album also makes it make more sense in context but up until this point I was definitely like "why this song for TT?" when hearing all the hooting and hollering in the first half. Merry Go round - I think I'm not alone when I say this song feels a lot like what people expected from this album in terms of the introspective lyrics. Def got the tame Impala vibes immediately This song also gave me one of my absolute favorite things in the world : Suga vocals Normal - this feels kind of nostalgic to boy band songs that were popular during mid-2010s era. Probably not a coincidence because Ryan Tedder was also writing half the songs back then lol.The vocalists really got to go off on this one. Like animals - I thought this was such a unique track for them. I love the vocals layering here. I'm curious as to much I personally will listen to this outside of a full album listen but it's the high on my list mainly because of how fresh I find it. They don't know about us - I was all ready to come in here and say how other songs have overtaken this for me from the first listen. And then as soon as that beat dropped I went well she's back into the top 3 😂 I got to pay attention to the lyrics more here and I do like the motif of this song being them both acknowledging that they don't know what was the reason that they out of all groups got to this level of fame and yet at the same time that answer is just cuz we are those ones🤷🏿‍♀️ and we don't need to explain it to anyone. One more night - such a good vibes banger. I can totally imagine this in that end of concert slot. Confetti raining down... 😭 Keep in mind I do not currently have tickets to this show. So fun fact, on my first listen my playlist stopped after one more night and it sounds like such an proper ender that I didn't realize the album wasn't over and never heard please or into the sun. I was so confused cuz people kept mentioning into the sun specifically and I was like "what song is this". Please - love these vibes I don't think I have much to say it's just my genre of song. Into the sun - I've heard a lot of people mention this is one of their favorites I definitely did not expect the vocal processing. I would have liked it much better without it honestly. From Hope's verse onwards is cool but I was hoping they would at least drop it for the second chorus cuz the vocalists would sound so good on this with their normal tone as you can see with Jins part. I'm hoping they perform it without it.

Casey

I loved the album! It was hard to choose but my top five are aliens, they don't know about us, like animals, merry go round, and normal as of right now

Taisha Caldwell

Personally, I'm right there with you, Ant. I've seen reviews on both sides of the spectrum. I know there are a probably a lot of people that are just excited and over hyping everything just because BTS is back, sure, but I'm also seeing people saying that this album is really catering to music lovers. I'd say I'd have to agree. It's definitely not going to be everyone's cup of tea, especially if they'd been waiting to hear that familiar sound that we're so used to that you were mentioning. This is so different and that's why I think it's so easy for me to embrace. It is a bit more modern and it doesn't follow the standards and rules that they were already so loosely following beforehand which I think is great! I see so many elements of Joon's last album reflected in some of these songs as far as experimentation goes, and everyone else's different styles colliding to make this project really resulted in something very unique. I didn't really have expectations for what we we were going to end up with. My anxiety was definitely high, but I was just excited for their return. At first, it was a bit if a shock to my system during the first listen, because I do feel like certain choices could have been executed differently, but I'm not a musician and I'm not the ones in charge of greenlighting those decisions. The more I listen, the more enjoyment I find in what we did get. It is different and it is more mature, but not only that. The guys love what they've created enough to share it with us in this way, so the least I can do is take the time to really process it as a whole and take it all in. 🥰 Also, kinda love what they did with Swim as the title track. It was way laid back and simple, but with that being the first piece of content that I consumed, it was a real bop to my noggin when I started the album and it began WAY left of what the vibes from Swim was. Top 3 is also hard for me, because I feel that they change each time I hear them. So for now, I'll say: 1. They don't know 'bout us 2. Into the Sun 3. Hooligan/2.0/Normal Like Animals is definitely rising up the list too though.

Brittany

I'm struggling to choose my tops though..hmm 1)Like Animals 2)Normal 3) Please 4)They don't know about us 5)Body to body But honestly it keeps changing. At first listen the first half was alright to me but after watching their comeback I definitely have a different view lol. It was great! They are definitely concert songs and so fun!! So yeah love the album and was glad there was korean too. Was scared it would just be English 🔥✨ So happy to see them again 😭

a2r

I DONT KNOW WHERE I PUT IT WHEN I PACKED UP. It’s been bugging me 🤣😭

Sindi S.

absolutely loooooove the album!!! I honestly can't choose my favs rn every song just hits different. Especially after watching the live on netflix today! I AM OBSESSED!!

Nadia

I've been an ARMY since dark & wild era and this is one of my fave albums from them (I will go so far to say it's my fave ever), because of how different it is but I understand this is not everyone's opinion. Also as a hiphop BTS enthusiast, I am over the moon to hear them go back to their roots in the first half of the album. My top 5 keep changing and it's so hard to pick, but for now I will go with: like animals, 2.0, body to body, aliens & they don't know bout us. It's their boldest, most experimental album, and they covered so many different styles in terms of vocals melodies & beats I've never heard them use before. I will always respect an artist for exploring their sound. I still think this album holds the identity of BTS while being experimental. Introspective themes such as merry go round, normal & they don't know bout us, showcasing their Korean identity in Aliens & Body to body, and healing themes such as Into the Sun. These are all themes familiar to BTS discography. So I personally don't understand comments which say they've completely changed. But also like J-hope's lyrics said, ofc they've changed, they're a 13 year old group mostly in their 30s. The old songs are still there and they will still perform them. As for the criticisms I've seen around Swim being the title track, I get it lol. I still like the song though so I'm not too bothered. I will say the live performance really elevated the song for me, it has very beautiful choreo. Sorry for the long yapping comment 😂

l

i loved the album, 10/10 for me 😭

Amyyy✨

This album is different you can tell how much they experimented. Their sound, vocals and more were unique for most of it. Favs (not in order) - Please - Body to Body - Like animals -merry go round -Normal - they don’t know ‘bout us I did expect more Korean lyrics/ exposures to their Korean roots as that’s how people, BTS and media was advertising it . It did took me around 2-3 listens to really understand/grasp this album but I liked it!! Still can’t believe Its been 4 years AAAA

Alyson

You explained a lot of my thoughts that I couldn't put in to words MsMercedes!!

drea.

so for me, my expectations for the album completly changed as soon as I saw the category it was under on streaming services. cuz why tf would the company suddenly decide to change the genre from K-pop to pop (which I still think is a miscatergorisation) when that's what they have been doing for even their solo albums. RPWP, D-DAY and being Jack In the Box under the K-pop category will always fry my brain. but nevertheless. I'm very satisfied with this albums output, probably at a 85%. my biggest gripe with it, and music in general coming out rn is the song lengths. Tae and Jimin mentioned in an interview for the album that they had to cut soooo many songs shorter because of how the industry operates currently. anyways, A FKN BRIDGE ON LIKE ANIMALS WOULD HAVE BEEN AMAZING. the negativity surrounding majority of the bigger groups releases for the past 4/5 years have been the same old criticism. the group does a familiar sound, it's bad. the group does something different, it's bad. the group does something safe, it's bad. the group does something experimental, it's bad. blah blah blah. whatever. I'm hoping every group we love and enjoy feels that they don't have to stagnate themselves for the sake of just appeasing the majority. and that's exactly why I love and appreciate what BTS did here. for soooooo long have they been associated with the butter, dynamite and PTD trio that this return to a sound that is more attached to the start of their careers, their roots (like they said they fkn would). anyways... my current top 3 is hooligan, please and body to body. 2.0 is a very close fourth and I'm a sucker for a sad song so normal at number 5.

mssmercedes

I haven't gotten to listen to any of the production behind interview yet but Ugh I hate to hear that they had fuller length songs they had to trim to fit the current trend.

Jess

In no particular order, my top 6 (couldn't do just 5) is body to body, normal, like animals, they don't know bout us, fya and into the sun The only thing that bummed me out is the lack of Korean lyrics. But this album is such a banger and I'm so happy to have them back as seven. The concerts are going to be crazy good fun

Jess

I agree about into the sun. The vocal processing felt overdone for me

Alexandra Michelle

Jin and J Hope stood out to me soooo much this album! I really don't know why people keep saying this sounds so Western bc I think it's actually them going back to their roots. I was not a fan of Permission to Dance, Dyamite, and Butter had to grow on me. I was nervouse for this comeback bc of how much they hyperfocused on winning a Grammy before their military obligations but they ATE this album up and it sounds like a grown Dark&Wild album to me!

Sumeya

The Alien song is so insane cause even for non-Korean citizens (foreigners) they have to get an Alien registration card to live/stay there. So I love the reference to them being the Aliens, too, outside Korea. Also, like animals defooo sounds familiar, but I think it's because it gives off bands vibes like the neighbourhood, Arctic Monkeys, Beach Weather, Chase Atlantic, etc., like we GREW UP WITH THIS SOUND.

Sumeya

They gave it their all with this project. I’m definitely not seeing the discourse, but my top three are Merry Go Round, Normal, and Like Animals. BUT after re-listening, I just can't decide. Also, Jin blossomed so so so much like he really went beyond after doing his solo project.

Alyson

My biggest gripe with the music industry in general rn is the short songs w/ no bridge!! I think BTS made up for it, though, with the number of songs they put on the album!! But I agree a Bridge on Like Animals would have been peak!!

mavy rosales

I knew you would like this album! I don't understand the discourse either.. I thought this album was amazing and it's literally becoming one of my top favorites and that's saying a lot as an army since 2018 and cause BTS has so many good albums. This was made for music enthusiasts for sure and I'm so happy we both got it on the first listen lol I know it took some people more than one, which is okay too! No skips for me too! They experimented so well with genres and sounds, the artistry is so admirable, it truly is BTS 2.0 and it's amazing seeing how much they've grown musically independently and now coming back together. Amazing reactions and interpretations from you once again! Can't wait to see these live!

drea.

not me just catching the 1TYM reference in Yoongis rap in FYA. I remember watching that performance on B2P here with Anthony and that hook being stuck in my head for days.

Taj carter

I think in no order my top 5 is Body to Body, Normal, Swim, Like Animals and One More Night lol

Aziza H-R

Your reaction to into the sun is very real. By that track I was just cheesin’ and grateful that bts were back. My top 5 tracks after quite a few listens are like animals, normal, into the sun, hooligan and body to body. But honestly I really love this album and the new direction they’ve gone in.

DeJané (DJ)

My top song is Normal. Then Hooligan. Such a great mix of songs on this album. I’m not a huge fan of One More Night but I see its place for the concert feel and will definitely be dancing to it at the concert. Please is a good song with great vocals as well just doesn’t fit BTS’ vibe in my opinion. Other than those 2 songs the album is a 10/10 for me.

nika

Do you plan on watching the documentary?

nika

my top 5 is: like animals, please, they don’t know bout us, aliens and normal in no specific order. Besides like animals and please it changes with each listen😫 I love this album so much.

Narawin971

There's so much crack in this album !! Likeeeee I need to INJECT IT somehowwww !!!
