As much as he wanted to stay with Jane and Darcy for a while, he couldn’t. Once he had used the super soldier serum on Jane and made sure that there were no side effects, he prepared their training plans and left.
Part of it was the desire to check on Earth. With his fake evidence, Thanos for the kidnapping of Jane, he didn’t expect Asgardians or dark elves to return to Earth, but he still wanted to be there just in case.
More importantly, he wanted to research what the Stone was, and he suspected it would take a while to understand what was going on with it. There was a chance he could find some records about the Realty Stone.
Unfortunately, all his hacked databases didn’t mean anything when said databases contained no information about it. But then, considering its potential, there was a chance that no one would commit it to their database.
It didn’t take long for him to realize that Asgardian library was the best possible source for it. He would have left to visit, but a chain of events, all contained in a day, had prevented him from doing so.
It was a chain of terrorist attacks, apparently done by someone called Mandarin, targeting Tony, which included bombing Tony’s mansion after Tony, like an idiot, challenged them to attack him at his home.
He ordinarily wouldn’t have cared, as he wasn’t exactly Tony’s keeper, believing he was a big boy that could deal with his own issues. The problem was that Tony made that declaration when Pepper was visiting him to make him sign some papers, and Pepper ended up in the crossfire.
Not in real danger, as unlike Jane’s problem, a conventional attack was something his drones could handle easily.
Seeing Pepper safely escape with another woman, he decided to check what was going on rather than immediately returning. With his digital expertise, and the level of illegal penetration of the web, finding out what was going on had been easy.
Mandarin was a red herring, and the whole process was done by someone called Aldrich Killian. The reason turned out to be easy. By hacking his company records, he wasn’t able to find anything.
He was smart enough not to keep anything on networked computers. It was smart.
Unfortunately, a visit to his company headquarters solved the issue. He hacked the computer physically, which gave him the project reports on something called Extremis, which was a combined nanotech and genetic engineering solution that turned people into supersoldiers.
An inferior solution compared to the super-soldier serum, with some difficult-to-bypass heat management issues, not to mention a host of other long-term issues.
It was why Killian was targeting Tony.
“Well, difficult to handle for others,” he said as he examined the result. It was nowhere near enough for human trials, but the general idea was interesting. He might have struggled to fix it before Energy Tinker, but with it, it was easily solved.
That would have earned a modicum of mercy from him, but in the same computer, he found Killian’s backup plans. Killian decided that, if Tony wasn’t able to solve the issue, he would do his best to get his hands on a supernatural healer.
Michael didn’t mind being the target, but seeing his detailed dossiers on how to target Darcy, Jane, and Mary Jane to achieve that lost him any mercy he might have.
He could have ended it from his workshop, but he decided against it. Killian planned to kidnap his lover for a face-to-face meeting. Well, he would give him that. He started traveling toward the hotel Pepper was able to escape, and while doing that, he sent Phil an anonymous tip about Tony’s current location.
The rest, SHIELD could handle.
He knocked on the door. “Who is it?” Pepper asked.
“Room service,” he called.
"We didn't order room service," Pepper called. Her voice came out steady, but he could hear that he was tense.
“It’s complimentary,” he responded, and opened the door, only to end up looking at the barrel of a gun. He smiled at her shock. “It even comes with complimentary kisses,” he added.
Pepper put the gun back into its holster, and jumped to him directly. He hugged her while her legs wrapped around him, and she kissed him desperately. Only when she pulled back, breathless, did he smirk at her. “I missed you,” he said as he squeezed her ass.
“I missed you too, but you know the mess we were dealing with after … well, everything. Every single day was filled with committees. Even right now, technically.”
He laughed. “I’m sure they’ll make an exception for a terrorism incident,” he said, then turned to the other woman in the room, who was looking at him in shock. “I’m Michael, nice to meet you,” he said.
“D-doctor M-Maya Hansen. And, I know,” she stammered, surprised to see him, after all, he was famous.
He smiled at her and sat, pulling Pepper onto his lap without shame. Ordinarily, he would have reacted Killian’s business partner worse, but his hacking had shown that Maya had been unaware of the human trials or terrorist attacks until recently, and when she learned, she acted to prevent it.
Her plan wasn’t good, hence their situation, but that was more forgivable.
“We still don’t know where Tony Stark is—“ Maya started.
“Don’t worry. I have already spoken with Phil. He’s on it.”
“He’s supposed to be not acting until the committee makes a decision,” Pepper said.
“And you think it’ll stop Phil when a friend needs help? He also promised to pick us up, but I told him to prioritize helping Tony and hunting Mandarin. I’ll be enough of a production.”
Pepper laughed. “Good point. That means we can stop worrying.”
“Why don’t you tell me exactly what happened?” he asked, acting as if he had only a cursory understanding of everything.
Pepper nodded, and for the next fifteen minutes, they explained what had happened. Technically, he knew everything, but he let them explain, as Maya’s presence meant he couldn’t be open with the secrets he planned to reveal to Pepper, as she and Natasha were the last two members that was yet to learn exactly what had been going on. Also, Maya didn’t reveal the truth about Extremis, mostly because she was still under the impression that the attack had nothing to do with Killian, unaware that the Mandarin is a fake villain used by Killian.
Pepper calmed quickly. Unfortunately, being attacked by a small squad of helicopters wasn’t the most danger she had ever faced. Maya was tenser.
“Give me your hand,” he said to Maya while they talked.
“Why?”
“Healing. You need to relax,” he said. She did so, and a flash of golden flames fixed it. But, he kept holding her hand, massaging her. She slowly calmed down. Pepper sent him a glare, but he could read that it was more playful than angry.
Not a surprise, as he wasn’t the only one enjoying having a submissive sexy scientist in bed. Maya was just cute enough to handle Jane’s absence. Expectedly, Maya’s tension disappeared, replaced by a calm. One that could be turned into heat.
But, any plan to do so stopped the moment the door blew off its hinges.
Aldrich Killian walked inside, arrogance rolling off him. Admittedly, he looked good, even though it was due to his experimental training. But, he was certainly overgroomed, in a way that shouted how fragile his ego was.
"Ms. Potts," he said, delighted. "You've been so difficult to find,” he said. Pepper stood up, pulling her gun, while Maya pulled back, hesitant. “Maya, good job finding Ms. Potts.”
Maya seemed shocked at that, but soon, she decided to play along. She nodded.
Pepper raised her gun. “I don’t know what you are doing here, but—“ she started.
Killian rushed forward, fast. But not fast enough to prevent Pepper from delivering two bullets to his chest. Unfortunately, against an enhanced, they were useless. Pepper needed a better arsenal, something he would have a talk about.
Killian reached for Pepper’s throat, ignoring the wounds. He clearly wanted to take her hostage, which would have succeeded without him.
With him, all Killian got was a nasty uppercut that sent away. “Who are you supposed to be, little guy?” he said while Killian rolled.
“I’m Aldrich Killian, you peasant,” he growled. “And, I’m lucky that you’re here because you’re my next target.”
“The next target? Does it mean you’re working for Mandarin?” he asked, acting like he was shocked while four bodyguards entered the room, all with Extremis, their heat signatures impossible to miss. “Are you his little nerdy scientist or something?”
His insult wasn’t particularly inventive, but he could also see that Killian believed that he had already won, meaning he was being underestimated. That wasn’t a surprise, as his only public performance had him riding a mecha, and he was a healer. Combined, it was normal for people to assume he wouldn’t be a good fighter. At least, not good enough to defeat five enhanced individuals while protecting Pepper.
It was also very wrong.
“Me, working for him!” he spat out, confident of victory. “Please, Mandarin is my creation. A cat’s paw that I used to distract the world and hide the experimental issues.”
He had to admit, it was a good strategy when one had super soldiers that occasionally exploded. Terror attacks made a good cover.
“So, Maya. Tell me why I can feel heat radiating from every single of them, their body heat already in the high hundreds,” he said.
“A side effect of Extremis,” she said. “We still don’t have a way to handle heat buildup. It compensates to a degree, then…”
“It stops working,” he added, smirking. “And, they thought they could intimidate me,” he added, raising his hand, covered in flames. “Really, Killian. Here I am, thinking you’re supposed to be smart,” he said.
Killian froze, his confidence already shattered into pure panic.
It was boring; he decided as he lunged forward. Bringing four bodyguards to the small room was a mistake, as it cut their movement. He easily cut into their formation, exploding into action. Extremis gave good endurance, but only so much it could compensate for a blow to the head when it was delivered by another super soldier.
He didn’t even need to use his flames to take down the four, leaving only Killian. “D-don’t approach,” Killian started. “I can—“
That was all he was able to say before he received a slap, sending him to the wall. A few more hits, and he landed, trembling. “No, no, no,” he gasped, turned, and ran away.
Since the bodyguards were still on the floor, he couldn’t follow them without risking Pepper. Luckily, he didn’t need to. He just cast a subtle spell on Killian, one he learned from Asgard, which the blacksmiths used to heat up metal.
It required some finicky adjustments to cast that on the nanomachines Killian had in him, but his traits and skills allowed it. Thirty seconds later, on the road, a car exploded.

{Uncommon Item: Cyberpunk 2077 - A heavy-duty, powerful double-action revolver produced by Malorian Arms. This gun is incredibly powerful, even being able to punch a hole in half-borgs with each bullet. You also get 30 bullets every day for it.}
It was a nice reward, if only because it would give him another tech template, and maybe keeping it in his inventory could help as well.
“Well, that seems like a very flawed treatment,” he said.
Maya looked toward the burning car, shocked. “It is. It is nowhere near enough to be used yet, but apparently, I have underestimated just how far Aldrich was willing to go. To imagine he was behind Mandarin …” she started, then her eyes widened. “He must have used him to cover up failed experiments.”
“Likely,” he responded while Pepper went to hug her. At the same time, he tied down the four bodyguards. “Be smart, and don’t make a move, or I would have to use my heat. You have just seen how badly it combined with exertion,” he said.
Bodyguards Killian brought along lacked the necessary loyalty.
They stayed in the hotel room, waiting for help. With the priority raised, they soon had visitors. Jemma and May, both dressed in civilian clothes, but armed.
“We came as soon as you—“ Jemma started, panicky, but Melinda silenced her with a casual hit. From the way she moved, he could see that she also took the super-soldier serum, one of the stronger, stable variants.
It wasn’t as good as what he could come up with, but still a significant upgrade.
“Oh, Melinda. Jemma. What a nice coincidence to come across you in this random hotel,” he teased. “Don’t you think so, Pepper?”
Jemma looked confused. She was smart, but she rarely thought about politics.
“Yes. A lucky coincidence, which is good. Because if they were responding to an actual crisis, I, as a committee member overseeing SHIELD during the legal proceedings, had to file an official complaint,” Pepper spelled out.
“Oh, right. I mean, yeah, we were having a fun trip.”
Admittedly, it was an obvious excuse, but in politics, a thin fiction could be surprisingly valuable.
“Good,” Melinda said. “Jemma, go help Miss Potts and Miss Jensen.” She pulled special restraints for enhanced individuals, putting them on the guards. He helped her. Meanwhile, Jemma walked toward Maya, questioning her about Extremis, which soon turned into a very interesting debate.
He suspected it wouldn’t take long for Jemma to find solutions to some of the biggest issues with Extremis, as the current leading researcher in Super Soldier Serum.
He had a feeling she would have ended up in a government-owned bunker if it wasn’t known that Steve owed them a big favor. And, no one wanted to anger Captain America and his two ‘mysterious’ helpers.
Somehow, Bucky and Peggy’s identities managed to stay a secret.
As much as he wanted to spend some quality time with Melinda and Jemma, that was out of the question. When the army arrived to pick the captives, Melinda and Jemma left with them. Melinda to keep an eye on them, and Jemma to escort Maya.
Leaving him with Pepper. They went to his vehicle, which was another automated stealth jet. He would much rather drive a restored classic car, which he was starting to miss, but the situation didn’t allow.
“What a day,” Pepper said with a sigh.
“Already imagining how much paperwork it would create,” he teased.
“Don’t even joke about it. Let me ignore it for the rest of the day. Tomorrow, I have to return to the committee.”
He grabbed her hand. “Speaking of the committee, I know you decided to delay the treatment until the committee finished to prevent people from calling bias, but any chance of changing your idea?”
She sighed. “Not yet,” she said. “The discrimination against enhanced individuals is simply too much. There is even a significant minority that’s pushing for ‘greater accountability measures’. They don’t have the votes to push their own agenda, but they are still an important bloc. I can’t become their enemy until it finishes.”
“Are you sure?”
She sighed. “I know it’s stupid—“
He interrupted her with a kiss. “Of course it’s not stupid. You understand the risks. I won’t blame you for a decision that you make out of conviction.” He said. “However, just a fair warning, there are a few things that I need to tell you, but I can only tell you after the end of the committee.”
“Plausible deniability?” she asked.
“Like you can’t believe it,” he said.
“Does it explain Jane and Darcy’s sudden disappearance?”
“It might, but it’s a really big issue, so…”
Pepper chuckled. “Fine, I didn’t notice their sudden disappearance any more than was necessary. Or why MJ could suddenly run a marathon without sweating.”
“Exactly,” he teased.
“Since we can’t talk about anything important,” she said, grabbing his shirt, removing it with passion. He kissed her as he pulled her onto his lap, the pilot’s seat reclining easily. He grabbed her shirt, ripping with ease.
She desperately removed his pants. “I missed you so much,” she moaned.
“Another reason to hate Hydra, then?” he teased.
“Like we need a reason for it,” she responded as she pulled her panties to the side, and saint down. There was no teasing, no slow adjustment, just a desperate push that took him deep into her. “I missed you so much,” she whispered.
“I missed you too,” he said as he buried himself deep. Her head fell back, mouth open for a sharp cry. His hands clamped on her hips hard enough to bruise, and he took over the pacing.
The jet’s inertial dampeners kept the turbulence out, but the cabin still shook with the force of it. Pepper rode him desperately, trying to make up for the lost time. He kissed her, enjoying her moans.
Soon, she shifted, pulling her bra down, pushing her breast to his mouth. He was happy with the change, his teeth clamping around her nipple.
“Harder,” she demanded, her voice cracking with pleasure.
He flipped them without pulling out. Her back hit the reclined seat, legs forced wide over the armrests. He put the angle to the test, his savage strokes making the seat creak. Pepper’s nails scored down his back, leaving burning lines that healed almost as fast as they formed.
Her first climax arrived with a broken shout, her walls clenching around him in tight, rhythmic pulses. He didn’t slow down. He fucked her straight through it. Her first for the day … but not the last, by a long stretch.
All that remained was one question. Could they push for double digits without abusing healing…
