The next morning, he left the house alone. Not because he was suddenly bored with Tahani or Georgina, but because they were utterly spent.
Their attempt to console Tahani might have been a bit excessive. It was almost dawn when they finished. Unlike him, they didn’t have near-supernatural endurance, so it would take a miracle to wake them up.
He hummed, wondering what to do. Not because he didn’t have any options, but he had too many options.
In the end, he decided to visit one of the upscale malls nearby because he wanted to buy some calligraphy equipment, wanting to test his newest skill. He didn’t expect calligraphy to be a major part of his life, but it was still a master skill.
And, every master skill was useful.
The store selling calligraphy equipment was underwhelming, mostly because a majority of its inventory was designed to function more than decorative items for fancy lawyers rather than for real enthusiasts.
He still made the purchase, because among them there were some quality pieces. He bought a range of stuff, from dipping pens to Eastern-style brushes, and in the end, paid just below fifty thousand dollars.
It was amusing how quickly money lost all its meaning.
Still, it wasn’t useless. Even if he never used them for anything else, he could use it to drive Amy crazy with arousal … maybe even enough to convince her to have sex at the precinct.
Seducing Amy to break her rules would be fun.
However, before he could even leave the mall, his gaze caught sight of a familiar figure at the shop, one that was just the right amount of angry.
Gloria.
He hadn’t planned on running into her while she was angry shopping, already with a black one-piece on her arm. "That's the wrong one," he said, coming around the rack.
Gloria turned, just angry enough to devastate the person who had dared to disrupt her while she was angry. But, the moment their gazes met, she froze, an uncharacteristic blush on her face.
After all, their last encounter had been very memorable, especially the part Gloria taught Kandi a lesson about challenging her in the bedroom.
"You," she said, half-excited and half-wary. “What are you doing here?”
“Shopping, just like you,” he said. “But, unlike you, I’m not trying to bring down the racks just to buy something I would never wear.”
She huffed. “Maybe I would. What do you know?” she responded. It was more of a reflexive answer than a real opinion. Gloria was angry, and when she got angry, she challenged people.
"That’s a boring swimsuit built for cowards who want to disappear at a pool party. You don't strike me as a coward, Gloria,” he teased.
“Maybe I decided to try something different?”
“Maybe,” he said, teasing her. “How about this, change to it, and check yourself in the mirror. If you can fake a smile for twenty seconds while examining yourself, you win the bet.”
“A bet? On what?”
“I can pick the tab for today’s shopping trip if you win,” he offered.
She waved her hand. “No need for that. But, I need a servant for the rest of the day. You’ll do,” she said.
He smiled at her unintended innuendo. “I will do indeed. What if I win?” he asked.
She paused, avoided his gaze, and blushed. “I’m sure we can come up with something,” she said, her accent flaring even stronger as she was unable to say what she had in mind. She must be really angry at her husband for her to start their bargaining at that point.
Her dreams of winning the bet died quickly because she barely managed to maintain her fake smile for three seconds after she left the dressing room. Inevitable, as not only the black one-piece was excessively conservative but also it was two sizes too big, making her look fat because it sat on her body wrong.
His fashion sense allowed him to pick that detail, which was the whole reason he led with that challenge. After all, while letting Gloria boss him around for a full day was tempting, winning was even more fun.
“Well,” she muttered, frustrated at how ugly she looked … by her standards. She was still a goddess, but she looked like one that had finally let herself go, which might have been her biggest fear.
He liked Gloria, but she was incredibly vain about her looks. She acted like she wasn’t, but she had never shied from using her looks to win an argument or raise her status.
She managed to stretch her lips for about five seconds, which couldn’t be called a smile. He still decided to put his finger on the scale. “You look positively plump,” he whispered.
The expression that she was trying to pass for a smile faded, replaced by fury. “I’ll kill you,” she said.
“And, that’s my win,” he responded.
Just like that, her expression bounced back to a frown. “It doesn’t count. You cheated,” she said.
“Really, how about if we ask the saleswoman to rate your smile,” he teased. “If you even dare to show this little abomination to anyone else.”
Gloria frowned. “Fine, you win. What do you have in mind—“
“I’m here. Are you happy? Now, give me what I need to carry and —” said a familiar voice. Jay Pritchett, who also had the mostly positive honor of being Groria’s husband. After all, Gloria might as well be the perfect wife, except for the times he had been around.
Gloria looked panicked as Jay turned, realizing that she was getting caught by a man that had been … helping her work her frustrations. However, she must have forgotten how they had met.
“Really, Gloria,” Jay said, his sound more whiny than actually angry. “You should have told me you have called one of Mitchell’s friend to help before dragging me from my club.”
“He’s not Mitchell’s friend,” Gloria said.
“From the same club, then. You get what I mean,” Jay said, dismissive. “Anyway, since you have found a friend helping you shop, why did you have to call me from the company?”
Clearly, Jay still remembered seeing him at the farmer’s market. Sharp memory, but the same didn’t work on his observation.
Anyone else would have thanked their lucky stars and counted that as a win. Gloria saw that as a perfect chance to lash out. “Because I wanted you here, Jay. Is it too much to ask?”
“I’m already paying for all that stuff. What more do you want?” Jay responded. He must be having a frustrating day, because that was a blunt event for him.
“I want you to be more present. Is this so much to ask?” Gloria said. “You have already retired from the company. Let Claire run it, or she will quit in frustration.”
“She won’t. She knows my wisdom is critical to the company. Especially since she’s talking about merging the company with a bunch of young idiots just because they have computers in the closets. That’s unacceptable.”
He took a step back, watching them argue. He had to admit it was fun, even with multiple digs Jay took at him, thinking he couldn’t hear them.
Jay was lucky he was not a vengeful man, or he might have decided to do something bad … like screwing his beautiful wife.
Jay was lucky indeed.
Very lucky.
Inevitably, after a quick fight, Jay decided that he had won the argument and prepared to turn. “Young man,” Jay said, patting his shoulder as he patted his shoulder. “How about you help my wife find the swimsuits and drive her back home,” he said, even tipping him in cash.
“It will be my pleasure, Mr. Pritchett,” he responded, chuckling.
"Jay," Gloria growled, warning Jay to stay, or suffer some unimaginable consequences. Unfortunately for him, Jay just waved it off and walked away.
Ethan didn’t pity Jay much. Contrary to what Jay believed, he was not entirely a pleasant man to interact, because he wanted everything to follow his exact enjoyment, whether it was his coworkers, his friendships, or his family.
Very pleasant to watch on TV, surprisingly annoying while interacting.
“Well, it looks like I have been hired as your shopping assistant,” he chuckled as he raised his hand and showed five hundred dollars that Jay had paid him.
Gloria growled angrily, but this time, he wasn’t the target. “You better go find me something sexy, then.”
He didn’t say anything. He merely left her standing and went hunting. It didn’t take long to find the perfect set: a string bikini with tiny triangles that left absolutely nothing to interpret.
When he returned, the door was already closed, and she pulled them from under the door.
When she opened the door, he got another lesson on why angering a sexy Latina should come with warnings. Because Gloria had decided to go rogue. She had merely put on the bottom of the bikini he had passed, topless.
He might have seen her naked before, but that didn’t prevent him from getting fascinated. An angry Gloria was a true goddess.
“Come help me change,” she said, pulling him inside.
“Well, Jay paid me to help you,” he said mockingly. “Whole five hundred dollars. Very generous.”
“Very generous indeed,” she growled as she put her hands on the mirror. “Now start working.”
He did. After all, it would be rude not to start working. When he caressed her inner thigh, a soft moan escaped her throat, her back curving to show her breasts in an even better light, the mirror allowing him to see everything.
While he usually liked teasing, this time, their situation didn’t allow for a long tease. Instead, he pushed forward, invading her wetness. She was tough, easily able to contain her moans.
As she tightened, he moved even faster, her walls tightening around him. That got even better when they heard footsteps, when she panicked, just not panicked enough to stop her hips.
Soon, she climaxed.
“Drive me home,” she said once her trembling stopped. Ordinarily, he would have been worried.
Instead, he smirked.
He had a feeling that it would go differently…
