Weapon (dagger), very rare (requires attunement)

This parrying dagger imbues you with a heightened sense of awareness. You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. This bonus also extends to initiative rolls and Dexterity saving throws you make while the dagger is on your person. While holding the dagger, you gain a +1 bonus to AC if you are using no shield.

Staggering Flourish. The dagger has 4 charges and regains 1d4 expended charges daily at dawn. When a creature that you can see targets you with an attack while you're holding the dagger, you can use your reaction to expend 1 of its charges to force that creature to make the attack roll with disadvantage. If the attack misses and the creature is within 5 feet of you, your attack rolls against that creature are made with advantage until the end of your next turn.

"Today we honor the memory of Mandit the Bandit, whose final words were 'What're you gonna do, stab me?' His sloppily telegraphed thrust was subsequently parried, followed by a swift and fatal stab. Thus, he died as he lived: clumsily and without a shred of self-awareness."

Hello! The print version of this seems to be missing from the downloads. Could you please upload that as well? Thank you!

Interesting! I have a similar homebrew item ... Defending Dagger. It's a +1 Dagger, like this one, but while wielding it, you can use your Reaction to add 1d4 to your Armor Class vs. a single melee attack. Works fine as either a primary or off-hand weapon.

I started with something similar! Ultimately people didn't want it to conflict with something like Defensive Duelist.

That makes sense, but this is a way to use an attunement slot to get use of a feat that has a relatively limited scope. Anyway, it's a popular item in my own home campaign... nowhere near as good as a shield since it only applies to a single melee attack, and not as good as a Shield spell since you spend your reaction for either one, but this bonus to AC is less than the Shield spell. Mostly, I've found it's most useful for Rogues, or similar two-weapon fighters.

Love the AC properties on this one because the rapier and companion dagger duo, that's what the dagger is usually doing, defending in place of a shield.
