No Canute is a Prince, he just looks very feminine lol. Prince Canute is my favorite character in the entirety of Vinland Saga and you'll see why later in the season.

Hands-down my favorite anime opening of all time! The lyrics to this opening are so deep. Really nice reaction guys!

Hey J&J, hope you're going great. 👋🏿 I appreciated a lot episode 10 as Askeladd is laying some serious wisdom on Thorfinn, like a total OG. He's basically telling Thorfinn, 🗣"Kid, time is your ally right now." Askeladd, as cool and skilled as he is, knows he's getting older. His muscles aren't gonna be as sharp forever, you feel me? But Thorfinn? He's just getting started! His skills are gonna skyrocket, and eventually, he'll be the one calling the shots. It's just how the natural cycle of life works, it's inevitable. 🤷🏿‍♂️ And get this – they're chilling at these epic Roman ruins in Bath, right? Askeladd points to 'em and drops this bomb: 🗣"See these ruins? Even the mightiest empires crumble. The Romans were the boss, but guess who took 'em down? The Anglo-Saxons! And us Vikings? We're gonna be next to get schooled by whoever's stronger down the line." The whole point is, no civilization, no person, nobody's invincible. You might feel like the king of the world right now, but your "golden hour" eventually fades, and someone else steps up to take your crown. Askeladd is basically telling Thorfinn, 🗣"This whole revenge thing you're obsessed with? It's a dead end, kid. You gotta find something way bigger, something that really matters." It's like he's saying, 🗣"Don't just chase the dragon; find a purpose that's gonna last!"

To prevent any confusion with Askelaad, Thorkell always wears a red headband. Regarding Canute, remember Jinshi from Apothecary Diaries, haha. Canute really has this androgynous look as well.

Oh shoot, sorry guys! You guys can totally watch the ending credits too. I'm glad you guys finally got to experience the opening. It's one of my favorite opening songs of all time. I'm a huge fan of rock and metal music, and we don't often get metal sounds in anime songs, so I was SO excited the first time I heard this opening! In terms of the visuals, I also really love the scene of Thorfinn evolving from an innocent young child with wonder in his eyes to a war-hardened and traumatized teenager. The scene actually reminds me quite a bit of the scene in AOT's op The Rumbling where Eren evolves from a child to an adult. Thorfinn's dream sequence at the beginning of episode 10 is so heartbreaking to me. Hearing him wake up screaming out for his father makes my heart ache. The poor boy is so traumatized. Don't know if you guys noticed, but as Thorfinn leaves the barn he was sleeping in, there's a dead guy on the floor with an axe buried in him. (Presumably killed by Thorfinn.) So Thorfinn was just sleeping next to a corpse lol. In the manga, the scene of him waking up in the barn is much more disturbing. Thorfinn wakes up in the barn to the sound of some of Askeladd's crew raping a woman, and they ask Thorfinn if he'd like to join in. Thorfinn looks at the poor woman being assaulted with indifference and simply walks out of the barn. The scene really goes to show just how numb Thorfinn has become to the kind of violence the vikings around him inflict. I have to wonder why the anime changed this scene. Perhaps it was a bit too brutal? I also wonder if the anime tried to present Thorfinn in a more sympathetic light in the anime, as I believe that if this scene was included in the anime, many people would lose any sympathy they had towards Thorfinn. I LOVE Askeladd's talk with Thorfinn on the top of the roman ruins. "Look, Thorfinn. It's ironic, right? Dawn in the age of twilight." That is one of my absolute favorite lines in this series. It's so simple, yet it feels so profound. When I first watched this episode I was SO startled when Askeladd suddenly sliced that soldier's head off. I absolutely didn't expect that to happen lol!! btw- as Mickael mentioned, a good way to tell Thorkell apart from Askeladd is that Thorkell wears that red headband. Also, Thorkell has brown eyes while Askeladd has blue eyes! Also, yeah, everyone gets confused about Canute at first lol!! I wasn't going to mention it, but since several other people in the comments have, Canute actually is male. He just has a very feminine/androgynous appearance. I really want to talk about episode 11 too, but my problem is that I always end up writing an entire essay about one episode, so writing about episode 11 would make this comment even more obnoxiously long than it already is lol- Thanks so much for the double drop, guys! I really enjoyed the reaction as always.

Askeladd is a truly terrifying character. Is this really the second time I'm watching him?! I've started to notice his intelligence in manipulating people around him as he pleases (like Thorfinn). He knows how to win over his enemies and make them believe he's on their side, while his enemies fall into the trap of his sharp wit. He doesn't embody honor like the warriors around him, but he understands its value to them. He knows how to deceive and manipulate, all to his own advantage. A truly terrifying character.
