Now that the father figure in Naruto's life is gone, the era of the mentor has ended, and a great intellectual battle has begun in the Naruto anime. Masashi Kishimoto has proven that he is willing to kill off the most important characters if the story demands it. And do you think it will stop there?! Kishimoto is truly terrifying. I remember how I cried when the episode first aired, and at the same time, I learned that Jiraiya lost the battle but not the war because he learned Pain's secret, succeeded in leaving a message, and believed in the hero he left behind (Naruto). Sometimes we are not the heroes in our own lives, but we may raise a young hero who will change the world.

Min 30 - Jiraya says that his life was insignificant because he failed in all the things important to him. But as Thoru Honda says, he doesnt see what others see in him, and his actions have also been both important, crucial, and bright to so many he didnt even notice.

oh my god, i can’t believe we’re already here! i’ve been waiting for you guys to reach this episode from the very beginning haha. i was absolutely devastated the first time i watched it. honestly, i wasn’t nearly as hopeful as you were. jiraiya was such an important figure in naruto’s life, like he said himself, like a godfather/father figure. his death hit me especially hard. i genuinely wasn’t expecting it, and i remember just sitting there thinking, “wow… pain really just killed one of the strongest and most important characters in the entire series. what the hell is coming next?” 😭 and let me tell you, you’re in for a ride haha. only goated episodes incoming. great reactions as always! 🫶

When I first saw this, it literally broke me. Everytime I watch it breaks my heart but I always learn something new in the process. I knew characters would die but, I didn't expect that it would be Jiraiya. He was Naruto's mentor, father figure and "grandfather" in a way and overall someone for him to lean on and respect. Not only that others in the village looked up to him as well. He was one of the strongest ninja and he thought having pain continue on his legacy would lead the world to peace but in return he was killed by his own student. Which meant that the prophecy about one student leading the world to distruction was about pain and the other was for Naruto. Jiraiya trusted his faith and chose Naruto to bring change to the world. R.I.P :( By the way; this is only the half way point the coming battles are beyond this world and mind blowing. Once again I will say: PAY CLOSE ATTENTION!

Hey guys, before i'm going into the episode i go into the Episode i quickly wanted to answer your Question from a few Episodes ago: Yes i am indeed from Germany which is why i often include famous German quotes or Philosophy since Germany was historically known as the "land of thinkers and Poets" (before certain... difficult times). I am from a small town about 2 to 3 hours away from Berlin and my town is famous for a guy called Martin Luther. He was a monk and theologian who in 1517 hammered 95 Theses of critique on the Church in the City of Wittenberg. This event essentially splitted the Church in half and sparked the Protestant Reformation. This is and my Family's long History (i'm not sure but i think our main family tree dates back to the 15th/16th century) are some of the main reasons why i am so interested in philosophy/ethics and history and why i am so happy that you reacted so positive to it. Unfortunately i don't have time to comment under every Single Post since University is absolutely beating my a*s and i'm simoultanesly re-watching your Reactions to OG Naruto. Anyways enough about me. To put it short, this beautiful and sad Episode tore my heart apart when i first watched it. To the last minute of the Episode i always hoped that somehow things would turn around. I still do. It's like when watching Star Wars and seeing Anakin become Darth Vader, i always hope that this time the ending will be different even though i know it won't. In his final moments, Jiraiya takes a devastating stock of his life, sinking into a narrative of total failure. He was rejected by Tsunade; he failed to save Orochimaru and lost both his Master and Minato. He saw himself as a failure and an unworthy end to his book. but then he thinks of Naruto and In that instant, this darkness lifts. He realizes that his greatest masterpiece was not a written book, but the boy he helped shape. He sinks, smiling, into the depths of the ocean and the water symbolizes not drowning, but a peaceful letting go. He found his peace. His fight against Pain is extremely similar to a piece of German Mythology. The "Nibelungenlied". Margrave Rüdiger is one of the noblest figures in the legend. He once bestowed protection, sustenance, and love upon the heroes of the Nibelung and acted as a father figure to them. A political conflict ignites a war, forcing Rüdiger to fight the very people he loved and raised. He dies in battle against his own foster children, torn by deep inner conflict. Jiraiya also does not fight nameless monsters, but rather the distorted legacy of his own past. Like Rüdiger, he dies at the hands of those whose survival he once ensured. It is the ultimate tragedy of the mentor whose love was corrupted by the turmoil of the world. Yet, while the Nibelungenlied ends in utter destruction, in Naruto, we are far from done. To end my long text, once again a small Part from a German Poem from Goethe which is fittingly to today's Episode is called "A Legacy" (I had to formulate a bit around since it's old as hell and would be very difficult to understad) "No being can disintegrate into nothing! The eternal stirs on in all things." Jiraiya may be dead but he is still very much with us, be it in his pervy books or deep in our hearts. Rest well Pervy Sage I guess this time i can apologize for the long comment... To you all much love from you know where.

First time watcher of Naruto. I cried when Jiraiya died, I can’t quite explain why it is bringing so much sadness out of me. Maybe because Naruto is losing yet again another father figure?!

Stxrmzy

This is the saddest episode in all of anime for me. He may not have been the GOAT, but he was definitely the TOAD. One of my favorite characters of all time... gone. 💔😢 You'll always be remembered.
