Fall window for 89! I used tape to mask off the window frame, but you could use masking fluid or even add it in later with white gouache and dark paint. Have fun with your outside scene and remember to treat the background like an entire picture vs a picture in each box. I can't wait to see how you do with this one! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Tape: scotch home and office masking tape, utility knife

Paper: arches 140 lb cotton 9X12" paper that I've cut into 3X3" pieces, giving me 12 pieces per page.

Paint: The palette I'm using today is the split primary palette by letter sparrow: cad yellow deep, lemon yellow, cad red, magenta, ultramarine blue, cerulean(probably closer to phthalo blue), indigo and sap green. I don't use all the colors, but I will name them as I mix them. Feel free to use pre mixed convenience colors as well.

Brushes: round 4 & 10- Princeton brand

This looks like the window part of that coffee cup, book, and glasses photo that was submitted for the live class. I have been wanting to attempt that one and have actually only sketched it so far and used masking fluid for the window panes. I did the greenhouse tiny painting to get a feel for how to do it but this method may have been easier!….or not??? 🤣

I love this technique.

I love windows Thanks

Haha I felt very inspired by that picture I guess! I do think the tape technique can be easier but it comes with the unpredictable nature of using tape. I love being able to get the straight edges that are way harder with masking fluid though!

I am in a book club and love coffee so that picture really resonated with me as well! So thanks for the two tinies inspired by it, they’ll be good practice for whenever I attempt the whole picture… book, glasses, and all!

Can't t wait to try this one. Beautiful 😍. I love'd the window book and coffee cup picture as well. Maybe a tiny painting with a book and glasses will follow? I am sad to think we are so close to the end of this series. Your tutorials have been amazing. Thank you Kristin.

I love this window scene. How hard do you think it would be to paint a winter scene outside as a variation? Any suggestions for success if I attempt it after this one? I, too have really adored the series and will be sad to see it end. You’re probably ready to do something massive as a palate-cleanser (or palette? 😉), but I do hope you’ll keep dropping in some tiny ones from time to time.

Thanx! Love it! What other color could I use in place of magenta?

Audrey Matteson

I use Alizarin Crimson or Quin Rose as alternatives.
