Hi Everyone! I can't believe this week starts 2026 and a brand new 100 tiny paintings project. Below is the schedule and topic theme for the month of January. As a reminder, this year the 100 tiny paintings will revolve around a new technique each month, keeping the same Tuesday/Friday schedule so that we end up with 8-9 paintings per month and 100 by the end of the year.

The theme for January: Wet into wet and water control

Jan 1st: live class 12PM MST

The link to this class will be posted here on patreon Thursday morning and will be recorded and saved for anyone who can't make it.

This live class will deep dive and cover the basics of this month's technique: wet into wet and water control. We'll talk about the basic elements, how to mix "puddles", how to know the amount of water/pigment ratio you need depending on what you're painting, when to add more water directly too the paper, and how to correct and take water out of your mix and paper. We'll also cover exercises you can practice in your sketchbook and "homework" to help you improve this technique in stress free ways before you start on a painting.

Tuesday/Friday tiny paintings: Each Tuesday and Friday this month a tiny painting will be posted by 12 PM MST. The tiny painting videos include full video instructions, color mixing and reference photos and sketch outlines when applicable.

End of month live class: Jan 26th @ 12PM MST

At the end of the month we will paint a picture together from a reference photo. This class is also recorded and saved so you can watch back at any time. We will be voting on and choosing together a picture that uses a lot of the wet into wet technique we have gone over this past month. This will help us solidify what we've learned into something bigger as we walk through how to paint a piece from start to finish, live.

I also have some videos for my you tube channel planned for the month of January that I will be posting here so you can watch them ad free.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Kristin

How do I join? Can't find next years entry, thx

Cindy

I’m looking forward to learning even more with this year!

Kristin Van Leuven

Hi Manon! If you click on the membership tab you can become a member and all the tutorials through the next year will be available to you

Kels

Yeah!

Jennifer

She will post a link here and we join that.

Leanne Kuechle

Wonderful! I am looking forward to this.😊

Laura

Can’t wait!

Jean

Question for the experienced folk- is this suitable for beginners? I have done some basic Christmas cards from YouTube tutorials but nothing fancy…

Heather R Hare

Definitely! Especially the first class of each month, which is topic-based. And because it’s recorded, you can just watch the first time and paint later, if you want (that’s what I usually do).

Melodee Skiles

It gets even more fun with Daylight Savings since Kristin is in AZ and doesn’t change when the rest of us do! 😂

Melodee Skiles

I am so excited to start the 2026 challenge all caught up! I was out of the country last January without the right supplies and so I didn’t actually start painting the tinies till March. Just finished 100/100 yesterday and it feels great to start with a clean slate on January 1!! 🥳

Bev

I am so happy for this! I started far too late for me to keep up and never got the time right for the live class. Now I have a fresh start! I also take a great local live class each semester, Susie is great too! Oh, I'm So excited because you both have a similar approach to teaching that really resonates with me, and a different group of subjects to paint. And, even better, I really need to work on my wet on wet technique!! Thank you and so excited to start!!🥰🥰🥰🥰

Shanan Aspen's Messy Middles

I have all my supplies landing on my doorstep today! I wanted to make sure I have the same paints, brushes, etc.

Alisa Barott

Hello! I think this will be so fun!

Manuela

Wow Melodee you did it!!! Congrats!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Katherine

Looking forward to this next challenge. I had hoped to get caught up with this year's minis but my dear friend entered hospice in November and passed on Saturday so painting has been a bit of a challenge...time wise and emotionally.

Bear Raeb Barrett

Yes beginners welcomed. I started last December and I have learned so much. Kristin actually teaches everything. She doesn’t leave you hanging

Amanda M.

I’m excited for this! I just joined. Is there an existing supplies list or will one be provided come January 1st?

Lorrie

Can’t wait to get started!

Toni

so excited to start this year!

Manon Dingerdis

Hi Kristin, i am a member already, wil my membership continue next year automatically or do I have to sign up again? Sorry for my confucion.

Casey KC

I tried a few tiny paintings last year, just from the shorts on youtube and I was so grateful for them, they bring so much joy, these little scenes, tiny windows into unexplored worlds, silent moments, forever there to observe in stillness, I would like to enjoy more of them and so, I am here! This year I am a tear and I look forward to the 1st, I have already prepared a little cart with my supplies (what I have to start), set an alarm at 7PM (that's my time) to set up my space for class and It's in my calendar for January (and I look forward to looking back every month to what we have learned, and what we created (the results) and I look forward to prepping for every month ('s new theme). Thank you Kristin for you dedication, and the softness and gentleness and beauty in your teaching and art! An eager student! curious and open to learn here, All the best, see you (all) next year ;) Casey

Jean

Thank you!

Elizabeth

I still have a house full of guests and my brushes that I ordered, sitting in a post box waiting to be forwarded to South Africa. It is my dream to attend some of the live streams in 2026 and to complete all the tiny paintings. I am excited to try and really, really hope I manage.

Elizabeth

Where are you from? I am from South Africa and I've also set an alarm for 9PM which will be my time.

Jennifer

I’m so excited to be off work during the day to be able to participate in the live class! ✨

Katherine

Thank you Sanne ❤️

Susan

Just cut up 100 water colour paper squares...… and ready to go!

Casey KC

Hi, wow, hehe Belgiul here, same timezone, different landmass entirely wow. Over land and sea :)

Sharon Saad

What size paper should I cut for the tiny paintings? Should I be thinking about the end first? What will we be doing to display these beauties? We can't paint them only to sit in a pile for only the humitiy to explore. What is your plan?

Jodie

New and excited to start. Will the 2025 painting videos still be accessible here on patreon if we want to do extras?

JD

Woop woop, ready to go! LOVE that we're going to "tackle" Wet into Wet first...that typically is my most challenging technique!

Kboe

Can't wait for another 100! Thank you!

Melodee Skiles

Yes, the 2025 paintings will always be available in the “collections” tab as long as you are a member!

Mary Ann Williams

I'm new-ish to watercolor and just found out about this. I grew up with artistic parents (my 90 year old Mom is a working artist with a studio and paints regularly). I started college as an art major, but detoured into metalsmithing/jewelry for a while, then let fear get in the way and stopped drawing or doing much of anything creative for over 25 years. I really want to get back to creating and am seriously thinking about doing this! Question for those of you that have done the 2025 tiny paintings... My biggest challenge is finding/making time to paint. First, these are really well done! I love Kristin's style and compositions! And the scale feels like something I can accomplish and feel like I'm actually learning and completing something! I'm curious - how long are these typically? Under an hour? 30 min? What kind of time commitment should I plan for?

anna aura

I missed 2025’s 100 tiny paintings. Will this be available for members in the “free membership” tier, or would I need to upgrade to a paid tier to unlock access to 2026’s 100 Tiny Paintings? Thank you!

Grace Thomas

Where can I sign up for the 2026 tiny painting challenge?:)

Jodie

Great! Thank you!

Melodee Skiles

Mary Ann, every single tutorial in 2025 was less than 30 minutes, and the vast majority of them were under 20 minutes. I think the shortest was 6 minutes! It took me longer to paint, as I pause and am not as fast as Kristin, but still, these were very achievable in smaller pockets of time. I have VERY limited time to paint and got really behind several times, but was still able to catch up in the end.

DeAnn

I’m excited to follow your painting.

Kati Atwood

We use the arches cold press paper - 9x12 and cut them to 3x3. You will get 3x4 so 12 per sheet - I went ahead and pre cut all 100 and I’m glad I did. My finished ones are all in a box - but the exciting thing is what I have learned from each one - some have made Christmas ornaments out of them - which I think is a fabulous idea.

Kati Atwood

Super excited to add a few more brushes - also will add some burnt umber - I hate mixing browns!! But I love the color mixing. I am learning so much!

Kati Atwood

If you have joined her patreon, that is all you need to do!

Kati Atwood

I believe the 2025 paintings will still be in the paid tier - I would heartily recommend, though!

Patti

It is well worth trying to squeeze in the time. This is a great group with a fabulous instructor. I am 14 behind but look forward to every lesson.

Bear Raeb Barrett

I tried twice to buy one of the paint brushes Kristin linked in the supply list; but, both times I was given a delivery date only for it to be changed to never the day it was supposed to be to be here. Guessing I don’t need that paintbrush

Maura

Question on paper size for this first live class? It is my first live so not sure what to come prepared with...I see that you like to use a 4.5 by 6 inch Kristin by cutting your paper into 4 pieces...is that usual size for a live class?

Kristin Van Leuven

For this live class it won’t matter so much because we’re going over techniques. I will probably be using a whole 9x12” piece of paper and maybe a page in my notebook

Marianne A

Good morning! Excited for the class today but can't find the meeting link. Can someone help me out? Thank you!

Mama V

Did you mean the link will be posted on Friday morning? I missed the live. Where is the link?

Katie Bolthouse

Never did find the link….is it available for free membership or just the pay level. And since tomorrow is Friday is there another class? I’d love to get in but I need help figuring this out…this is all new to me. Thanks 🙋🏻‍♀️

Melodee Skiles

Hi Katie, the live classes and tiny painting tutorials are part of the paid membership. Kristin packs so much value into her membership, it’s well worth subscribing if you can!

Sonal Sabharwal

I just discovered this challenge and would love to join in. But, I am absolutely new to Patreon. Would you please guide me how to go about it if I want to access the recordings of each mini painting for 2026? Do I need to get a paid membership for that or can start with a free trial ? Many thanks

Jo-Anne Marie

Hi Kristin, I am excited to do this. Unfortunately, I work every Friday. Are there videos for this that we can look at? Thanks. Jo-Anne

Liz

Hello! With the monthly membership, will I get access to the tiny paintings of 2025 as well or only 2026? Thank you

Kristin Van Leuven

Hi Liz! You will get access to everything I’ve ever posted here on Patreon. So that includes everything from 2025, live classes and tiny paintings going into 2026 as well

Kristin Van Leuven

Hi Jo-Anne! The live classes are scheduled, but the tiny paintings are just released every Friday and Tuesday and you can do them anytime you like

Kristin Van Leuven

Hi! The 2026 painting challenge is part of the membership, so if you go to the membership tab at the top, it is part of the paid monthly membership and not the free one

Kristin Van Leuven

The link for the live class was posted on Thursday, and it is on the main Patreon feed under the paid membership. The Friday tiny painting was posted this morning and it is not a timed thing it’s pre-recorded and you can watch it at any time, but it was also posted on the main feed as part of the paid membership.

Morgan Powis

I just joined today! I am so excited!

Mellie

Can’t wait! Hoping this gets me back in the groove of painting again.

Nancy

I am excited to be doing the 100 tiny paintings in 2026. Looking forward to the second one:):)

Mary Ann Williams

I thought I already asked this somewhere, but can't find it, and the notifications are saying someone replied to one of my chats, but clicking it just takes me to the bottom of the current chat (where everyone is sharing their paintings). My question is about the schedule. I'm trying to plan some time off work and wondered if the final painting of the month that we do live together is always on a certain day/date of the month, or do they just get scheduled ad hoc? I'll definitely keep watching the replays when needed (I work full time so can't always join the live sessions), but I'd love to block out time if we know ahead of time when the the live sessions will be. Thanks! :D

Kelley List

Hiya - where are the 2026 paintings? I’m only finding the 2025 paintings.

Rae

Hello everyone, I know I am late to this challenge. I only found it a week ago and have been gathering supplies needed. I am very excited for this. Please could anyone tell me roughly how many hours a week this will usually need. As I expect we all are, im juggling things and was hoping to get a sense of Weekly hours. Much Appreciated. Rae :)

Katydid

Since it's been 5 days since you posted this question you may have figured it out already. I find it varies, I find some paintings take much longer than others. Some about 30 minutes, some more than an hour. For me anyway, it's not going to be the same for everyone. Of course Kristen does them in 9 to 15 minutes! Thank goodness for "pause" and playback speed control. By the way, I just joined this year too though I'm not totally new to painting. These minis are nice because they can be done in a relatively short amount of time. And depending on your experience, you may be able to keep up with Kristen and not need to pause or put on half speed. And some paintings don't have to be finished all in one shot. The thing is, the lessons are always there so maybe you won't have time one week and lots more time another week to do more. And if you don't like a painting she's doing, skip it and choose one you like from 2025.

Rae

Hi Kay, thank you for this. I have been so busy this week I won't be beginning until next week now. But I am hoping to catch up and do double time for a few weeks. I have zero painting experience and am not too great at drawing either so I think I'll definitely be making use of the pause and repays! I think you're right some weeks will be longer than others and I'm noticing the general consensus is also about what time you have to gove to it. I am hoping to have one or two days a week for at least the next month or two. I can't wait to start. Looking forward to a great year of tiny paintings. I'll see you along the way. Happy painting :)

Corinne Abeling

I am new to this group so am starting late. Quick question: Is there a list of recommended supplies, e.g., what weight watercolor paper, brand of water colors, brushes, etc.? I have a nice set of Curate Colours, 140 lb. Master’s Touch paper and a variety of brushes, but I didn’t know if you have some preferences we should consider along with any other supplies you might suggest. Thanks in advance for any answers! - Corinne Abeling
