Succulent for 26! Take your time sketching out the shapes of the succulent, and then all the outlining and painting is straight forward. The reason this one takes a bit more time is we work petal by petal, layering and building until we get to the final darker values. The most important part is to make sure your greens and pinks aren't mixing together too much. let the colors blend slightly into each other without over mixing and start lighter than you think you need. Slowly letting the color build. I can't wait to see how you do with this one! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Paper: arches 140 lb cotton 9X12" paper that I've cut into 3X3" pieces, giving me 12 pieces per page.

Paint: For this project I am using a split primary palette- cad yellow deep, lemon yellow, cad red, perm. rose, ultramarine blue, cerulean, indigo and sap green. The colors I'm using today are - cad yellow, perm. rose, ultramarine blue and sap green.

Brushes: round 4 Princeton brand.

Looking forward to this one - I have photos of some Lenten Roses (Hellebores) with these same colors and trying to figure out how to paint them without it becoming muddy.

Oh oh! This one reminds me of last year’s Caladium (#29) that I thought would be easy but was really challenging because of the pink and green going muddy when the blended. I’m excited to see if I find it easier after one year of painting.

I have some of these succulents, and have wondered how you would paint them! Thanks for this good challenge.

Hi Kristin! You mentioned a sketch we could use but I’m not seeing it here or on YouTube. I was wondering where I can find it? (It wasn’t in the email we received either.) This was challenging and mine definitely didn’t turn out as pretty as your’s but was great trying!

This is so beautiful! The colours are a lot like a coleus and it would be great to paint those one time with its curly leaves and variations of the colours.
