Whale for #61! I couldn't let splatter month end without a painting of splashing water. SO fun to include an animal and paint a whale. We are heavily relying on masking fluid to maintain the white of the paper, but if you prefer using white paint you totally can for this one. Let the masking fluid be random, splatter fine shapes, and create large areas near the water for the bigger water foam splashes. We can negative paint and fix any odd shapes later with the color of the water. The water is pretty quick wet into wet, but we're going to focus on keeping it dark and simple so the tail really shines as the focal point. I can't wait to see how you do with this one! Please let me know if you have any questions.
Paper: arches 140 lb cotton 9X12" paper that I've cut into 3X3" pieces, giving me 12 pieces per page.
Masking - I'm using pigmented masking fluid by Winsor and Newton
Paint: For this project I am using a split primary palette- cad yellow deep, lemon yellow, cad red, perm. rose, ultramarine blue, cerulean, indigo and sap green. The colors I'm using today are - cad yellow, cad red, ultramarine blue and indigo.
Brushes: round 4 & 10 - Princeton - 3/4 flat for smacking splatter
