Purple cactus for #67! We are going to paint each paddle in the cactus one at a time with a green to purple variegated wash. Purple and green go so well together and I also get to finally use my new cyan today: Holbein manganese! I can't wait to see how you do with this one! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Paper: arches 140 lb cotton 9X12" paper that I've cut into 3X3" pieces, giving me 12 pieces per page.

Paint: For this project I am using a split primary palette- cad yellow deep, lemon yellow, cad red, perm. rose, ultramarine blue, manganese, indigo and sap green. The colors I'm using today are - Perm rose, lemon yellow, manganese and indigo.

Brushes: round 4 & 10 - Princeton

Hi Kristin, would you please post which pigments AND the brand you are now using for all the primary colors, sap green and indigo. Also, whether a pigment (cad yellow? cad free yellow? etc) is the light, medium or dark version if that’s an option. Thank you.

Susan C Terris

Oh how I LOVE when you paint cactus! One of my very favorite things to paint. Thank you!

Hi Kristen, As I’m getting ready for the Italy retreat (I am SO excited) I thought it was time to buy some ‘professional’ grade paints. I bought some WN professional series paints in the 8 colors I’ve always used and used them on this painting. I think there is a bit of a learning curve as far as getting color saturation is concerned. Am I overthinking this? 😂 The colors are very different from my beginner paints. Any tips or suggestions?

Yes, I would love this! Every time I paint, I look at my palette and the colors look nothing like hers. It’s baffling to me! My lemon yellow is WAY different than Kristen’s. I use W&N professional watercolor paints and I think she uses a different brand?
