94-99 were a wild time for animation to maybe also explain why this didn't do so well. I remember as a kid seeing: The Iron Giant (99) Anastasia (97) A Goofy Movie (95) Mulan (98) Hunchback of Notre Dame (96) Hell Space Jam (96) and the Pagemaster (94) were then too. I felt no connection to the Flintstones when seeing this movie come out. Y'all are right about the set designs they absolutely killed every bit of it for what limited info they were given.

I made this for suprise Round but this is the best spot if any to comment it, You are standing in line for the newest flavor of ice cream at your favorite ice cream shop when suddenly Alec Baldwin enters and joins the line. Soon, the entire Baldwin extended family, including his brothers, fill the shop. Luckily, you got the last scoop of the exclusive fruity flavor before the crowd of Baldwins arrived. As you enjoy your ice cream, you stare in awe at the many celebrities under one roof. However, you notice that Stephen Baldwin is dressed in full Barney Rubble attire. From when he was in Flintstones Viva Rock Vegas. The rest of the family seems unfazed, so you assume it’s a bit. All 25 Baldwins order their ice cream, but when Stephen goes up, he asks for the exclusive flavor and is told that you got the last scoop. Stephen approaches you and says, “Hee hee hee, that sure looks good, Fred.” You brush him off and apologize for getting the last of it. He walks away, seemingly done. Throughout the night, Stephen keeps approaching you in various hair-brained costumes, trying to con you out of your ice cream, as if this where a Fruity Pebbles Commercial. Eventually, his antics cause you to drop your ice cream, ruining your favorite shirt. This is when the Baldwin family notices and accuses you of messing with "Barney" (note they don’t call him Stephen). Do you confront the Baldwins or do you let Stephen continue to ruin your night because they have your car blocked in.

As someone who grew up in the 2000s there was definitely a shift bc kids movies didn’t necessarily go full non-color, but post 9/11 everything got very patriotic in like a subtle way where they just kind of insert the military into everything somehow

my dearest two crew, i beg you to watch minority report for a mixed bag. you have previously stated that you think it might be boring, since based on the tagline the film seems like it just rips. and rip it does, but it has so many insane and specific lore details that i have only unraveled after four viewings since the inciting episode with rekha. invite rekha! the more people that have to witness tom cruise with brown eyes the better. i whet your palate with this tidbit of information, at one point an old woman kisses tom cruise full on the lips and neither of them even mention it. please view this awesome and insane movie. laura ps. while you watch it remember that it came out one year after 9/11

The original Flintstones wasn’t a kids show it was it was a prime time sit-com that happened to be animated. It was the honeymooners with a genre gimmick. Two adult couples dealing with social mishaps and the pit falls of “modern life” (and keep in mind pebbles and bambam don’t even show up till the end of season 3 ) that’s not a premise aimed at kids. It wasn’t till syndication that the view of franchise retroactively shifted from adult targeted but family friendly to a thing for kids. Which is why you can get the weird tones of the movies because the people involved were famously fans of the originals and did try to accurately draw from the source material giving it that “who is this for” dissidence. The Flintstones movies aren’t really kids movies they are genre rom-coms being marketed as kids movies because the Flintstones was viewed as “a thing for kids” by everyone except the people making the things.

I distinctly remember watching this in theaters... which means I was around 5! The scene where Barney escapes jail is for some reason tattooed into my core memories. I've not seen it since, nor do I have any idea why my family went to go see it.

This movie cost 83 million dollars to make. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon released the same year with a budget of $17 million. Gladiator only cost $20 million more at $103 million, released two weeks after this. This movie doesn’t deserve much sympathy for being bad.

2026-09-05 07:00 I just forced my partners to watch the 2000’s Jim Carrey grinch movie last night, and it genuinely is a modern masterpiece. The costumes, makeup, sets, even the WRITING, was like SO GOOD, for NO REASON, and like we all got teary eyed by the end. So genuinely good watch it if you haven’t already. It’s probably one of my new favorite movies of all time
