Jake casually answering with a "yeah, I think at some point" when asked if he would ever DM on the last painting stream..... a master of deception

Peregrine

Not caught up yet… But so excited to eventually hear your ideas and world, Jake!! Love to you all!

Jake de Medeiros

Awesome! I hope Jake really isn’t afraid to give his NPC’s the backbone to stand up to the undoubtedly wacky PC’s. Firm NPC’s give the story stakes and make the jokes funnier, as opposed to NPC’s who are always agreeable and ignore mistakes.

Josh Marshall

NEVER BEEN SO PUMPED. I just listened to an old ep where Jake says he thinks he'll DM before 2022 or something and I was like man I hope he still wants to do it sometime. So psyched!

Paula TW

Finally someone knows what Skald means @lou

Stig

NO FUCKING WAY

Stig

JORK JORK JORK!

Kris Barnes

Jake don’t be so nervous man. You’ve played high level D&D for nearly seven years and you’re an accomplished actor/writer/director. You’ve got way more experience than most new DMs plus you’re playing with your buds. Any rules issues they can help you out with so just focus on having fun!

HeyYeah

I knew it would be Jake, also he'll yeah

Reid

This worldbuilding is EXCELLENT dada

Serpent Prince

Welcome to DMing, Jake!!! We’re all cheering for you!!!

Stig

LFGGGG

Will Taylor

Jake could be the dungeon Dada

DVirg19

I’m so genuinely happy for Jake. Over the years we’ve watched him grow more confident in this new hobby of his. Now he wants to DM? I’m just so proud of him in a young uncle kind of way

Spencer G

I'm so excited for you Jake!!

Elf0004

Wow, cool, Jake finally hopping behind the screen! Maybe next he'll co-host on an episode of 8-Bit Book Club!

Elizabeth Morgan

I’ve been waiting for this moment! LFG Daddy DM Jake!

Mia

Claire

You’re going to NAIL this Jake!

Ayush Kadel

PC murph lets gooooooo. Also excited for dm jack or whatever

Matt Gustavson

Murph should give his new character the Roy Kent voice

Raymond G

Shout out to Jake! He’s gonna do great! It’s a shame that he does contractually have to resign from being the Bailiff. What a weird rule 🥲

diintz

oh my god i'm fucking losing it at emily's horny knight she fucking GETS IT LMAO between this and one of her pitches for her critrole character, the guy who yearned to be devoured by his diety or smth, they cater to such a specific type of taste in comedic horniness that is so up my alley LMAO emily u are so fucking funny never let anyone tell you otherwise oh my god

Austyn Donoho

So freaking awesome. Congrats on challenging yourself Jake!

Benwahah

As a french Canadian I really hope murph goes all in with the vaguely french accent

Nick Lerche

I knew there had to be a reason they ignored my hearthside question about jake dming. im so excited!

Kellyd

Jake it literally won't be possible to let any of us down 😭 I hope he sees how fast this comment section exploded with literally nothing but positivity I hope Tucker sees it too and shows Jill

Fridge

this is going to be the best thing ever

Ben Rabin

Holy cow, this is exciting!

Erin Shear

Literally shouted when I saw this. So excited, Jake you're gonna do great!!

Cory Wyse

Not so lowly after all 🥹

Kathryn Martin

I’m so proud of our sweet baby boy Jake! With this, the DM circle is complete!

Nick Webster

Lis Telep

Murph I fully support a vaguely French accent!!! 👏👏👏

Tony Dennis

Jay S

OUR BABY BALIFF HAS GROWN INTO HIS OWN DOM DM I'M SO PROUD AND SIMULTANEOUSLY DISAPPOINTED FOR WHENEVER HE INEVITABLY GETS FUCKING W H O M P E D BY EMILY

Jonathan

I was hoping we’d get a Jake campaign!!!!!

emilythecoffeewench

It is soooo much fun hearing Jake get excited about world building and making the map!!

Evelyn!

Everyone is so excited in these comments!! I hope Jake isn't feeling too much pressure, we just wanna support <3

Erin G

so excited!!! jake, you’re going to do amazing!

Maximus Awesomeness

Caldwell said so many amazing ideas then I was really surprised when everyone was really into the bog guy

Lonestar

I'm sure someone may have said it already, but it's worth mentioning that 2014 subclasses are still compatible with 2024 rules so long as the subclass hasn't been replaced in the 2024 books. So you can't use the 2024 Fighter with the 2014 Eldritch Knight, because a 2024 Eldritch Knight exists.

Dave 3D Art

Boggy Rodger is starting from zero.

Mortimer Lunch

THE WAY I SCREAMED IN EXCITEMENT!!!! JAKE!!!

diintz

murph!! if the deciding factor of whether or not you try a french-ish accent is the potential rude comments then please know there's plenty of us who 1. dont give a shit how accurate it is and 2. wholly support you trying new things and expanding your range!!!! a kinda french romantic disillusioned bird-loving ex-knight would be awesome!!!!!!!!

Ashton Johnson

The noise I made when I saw the title was inhuman

itsellie

So excited!! You got this buddies!!

Darion Aronson

I've been wanting this since Jake said he DM'd for his cousins or nieces or whoever it was.

Ellen Stanfill

i hope he’ll be on eight bit book club someday

Jonathan

I gotta see the map

tarvis frogfriend

I am haunted by the thought that knights was just soldier-Uber

Ellie P

Oh my gosh!!!

Gavin French

Major character arc for Jake let's go

Michael Singer

As long as your players are having fun then you’re a good DM! Take all the time you need you highly highly highly dungeon duke

Bryce Peterson

Once a guest on 8-Bit Book Club, now a DM. Dreams really do come true.

L Benni

DO THE ACCENT MURPH YOU COWARD

Nicole Jordan

Omg this is so exciting! We’re all cheering you on Jake and your world sounds so so rad

Evem

I'm very excited to see what Jake puts together

Geraint

SO AMPED!!! This sounds absolutely sick Jake, can't wait 🤩🤩🤩

zarratm

My first campaign I ran a custom version of the Sunless Citadel! You’re gonna do great!!

Matthew

Unbelievably excited for Jake to DM! He is literally how I felt when I started DMing and I’m still very new lol

diintz

omg caldwell's character pitches feel so souls game-coded with the grungy humour and the naming style the idea of a dude just taking the whole rock with the sword is absolutely hilarious LOL but omg boggy buds and his voice is so good XDD

austinoxner

We got Jake as a dm before he got into cake. Big time!

rosebramblewolf

All of their potential characters sound incredible.

Geraint

Thankfully I think he's gonna be equal parts thrilled and terrified when it happens 😆

Anna Sun

Humbly voting for Murph to use his Not French accent for his new character! Love the vibes of a grumpy and secretly tender hearted Not Frenchman who has turned his back on idealism.

Geraint

Tucker please, let Jake have this tiny w

Kerry

So stoked for this campaign and world!!!!

Geraint

A yuncle, if you will

Ollie

Gasped when I saw Jake was DMing, u got this !!!!

Geraint

But he is thinking about it as a distant possibility

aiyana graham art

I was like "how is murph getting in the hot seat so soon again for a February campaign?" but now I know! very exciting!

Courtney F.

Came to say the same! I would LOVE to hear the Murph Frink voice!!

Courtney F.

Murph, please do the Frink voice!!! We love it!

A. Lee. S

The way I shut everything off in my house so I could sit and fully listen 😅🤗

Jonathan

There is no honor in mudtown is my next tattoo

Lucas

As a french-canadian, I would love to have this accent

marshal giles

Would be so funny if jake some how tpk’s them

aiyana graham art

it'd be cool if mudtown was pronounced like "mud ton" kind of like how Melbourne is pronounced as "melbin" or just generally the way the pronunciation morphs

Andres Romero

Murph please do the french dragoon

Jordan Quandt

I was so hoping Jake would do this eventually. He’s going to do great! If nothing else it’ll be fun and humorous. Regardless he’ll do great!

SMG

do the weird classes so i can live vicariously through you

Jean

You guys really should stop paying attention to haters, the number of people who will love the things you do is aways greater, at this point is making me complain about you being afraid of haters complaining!

Cristian

MERRY FUCKING CHRISTMAS THIS IS SO CUTE

Jonathan

I hope the boggy buds live

Ahmad Al-mousawi

Omg my prayers has been heard and now Jake will be DM

Ryan Dilks

JAKE DM FINALLY GOD I HAVE BEEN WAITING SO LONG FOR THIS

Jonathan

I’m already a Skaldova stan

Stephen Fike

AFTER YEARS DM JAKE IS FINALLY A THING

Mac

i was gonna say that i'm proud of jake for being the first guest DM of naddpod, but i forgot that jasper william cartwright ran a 2 (3?) shot. beat him to the punch xD

Mac

why can't you use 2024 fighter with 2014 eldritch knight? (i mean why would you want to) but my point is why restrict yourself? play how you want to play

Vaelyhn

Oh my god YES! After years of waiting we've finally got one of Jakes many promises to do a thing (Play The Witcher, be a cake guy, read Animorphs, etc.) Excited for this year of NADDPod!

jaxolotl

yooo DM Jake hell yeah

keysi ellle

Lets go! Jake in the DM seat means the 8bitbookbuds are back baby!

Manuel Espinoza

It’s kinda giving Onward vibes but I’m so here to absolutely see the 2 crew add that z e s t

Alexie Smith

Kate Oldham

Lila Goldenberg

i haven’t even listened yet but i’m so excited!! go jake !!!

Josh K.

I kept imagining the onion on the belt Simpsons meme for that bit, lol

Josh K.

At about 15:00

derek howard

I’m truly so excited to be here for this!❤️

Professor Pratt

I am so psyched for you Jake. You have come so far from those early days!!! Can’t wait!

Lia

I love hearing people's world building creative processes! It's always fascinating seeing aspects that mean the most to the inspiration. This sounds amazing!

EmperorGreed

No, I don't think he's been on 8BBC yet. They should get him on there though!

Walker Thurman

So excited for 3 Batmans and for GM JAKE!!!

Grass

IM EXCITED

SLuz

This is the best gift of the year!

Papa Taylor

Congratulations I think his name is John

DragonNerd

Based on the character ideas I feel like a good name could be the disgraced order

Elizabeth Gunn, sickly but cruel

I'm still waitin on that sumbitch to read some more Animorphs. I need him and Emily to reckon with the horrors that I did as an eleven year old.

Elizabeth Gunn, sickly but cruel

My therapist is insisting that I "increase my tolerance for positive affect" because apparently all good things come to an end, sooo I guess I have to listen to it. For the therapy.

brookieblue

JAKE!! I was just wondering if we’d ever see Jake behind the screen and HERE WE ARE!!!

Nitzan Harel

OMG OMG OMG! Called it! Good luck dming jake!

Calic Tolentino

PROUD OF YOU JAKE! YOUR GONNA KILL IT!!!!

Neil Dutton

Tip for Murph: "hon hon hon".

Cook

Never thought I’d live to see the day.

sarfs

Jake! I got chills when you talked about the Age of Stories and the reasons it’s called that, so excited about your world building.

Katie P.

Kick ass, DM Jake! This sounds so fun!

Smiththebat

Holy shit this is epic. We all could taste the day Jake finally put on the DM apron got cooking! Based on the limited info he gave, Jake’s world sounds EERILY similar to the world in the campaign I run! Which makes me want to talk about new ideas with him! 🤙🤙🤙

Cody Zimmer

Happy for and proud of you Jake. The start of something great for you, and therefore us. :)

Hashtaggles

I can’t wait to see what you do Jelk

Drew Fugate

This notification came right after my 12 year old husky passed away. I've been a fan of Jake and Amir for about 14 years and a patron subscriber of NADDPOD for about 2 years, so this is some much needed news. Love you all.

Felix

Lowkey Boggy Roger sounds awesome, pls post the map Jork!

Zanna

Jake, you're gonna make such an amazing world. I'm already excited!

virginia

RELEASE THE FRENCH MURPH CUT! I am so excited for this campaign!!!

A

So excited, time for Jake to shine!

Peter S.

Whooooo! I haven’t had time to listen to it, but I’m super excited!

Jocelyne Moore

For my two cents worth, fuck the hater Murph. Do whatever accent you feel like. It's y'all's show and game. We're privileged to get to listen to it. If people are rowdy about an accent choice they can go get a PhD in regional accents and fuck themselves with the diploma.

Honest Dice

You got this Jake! I’m so excited.

filofilo

Let’s go Jalk!!

Mars

JAMPAIGN IS HERE AND REAL

Matthew Clark

So pumped for Jake to shine ✨️ 🙌

Erik Moser

MURPH THE FRENCH RAVENMASTER

Logan Adams

A magic scholar would be fun. Not someone who knows magic, but their mission is to prove/disprove the existence of magic, past or present

snakejanders

I'm excited for this!! I heard that if he does a good job, we might even get to see jake as a guest on 8-bit book club this year!

Bobby Moynihan

Saw the notification for this episode and started barking like a damn dog

JR Lonergan

I'm desperate for Murph to do his French accent!

Nova

I agree - y’alls accents have literally never done anything but delight me!

Nova

I’m soooo excited about this! I love how much thought Jake put into this world already!! 🫶

AutoReroll

Love this whole thing. Not really that pumped about 5.5e if I'm going to be honest. But I am SO excited to hear Jake's DM style!

Smol

Happy to become a subscriber shortly before the arrival of DM Jake. This mini campaign will be dope and, please, do as many funny accents as you wish.

Proopypants

Very happily feasting on Jakeout for this one!!!

Danny

JAMPAIGN JAMPAIGN JAMPAIGN!

Angel

I haven't even listened yet but I need to make it known how ecstatic I am to hear Jake DM

John Hubbard

Silver sands, and you’re a new dad Jake. Did pulled that from the Julia Donaldson kids book “the singing mermaid” if you did fantastic choice. If you didn’t pick it up, Gemma will love it

Justin Lust

So hype for this one! Bro Master Jake is going to kill it

Harry Frost

Awesome, so sstoked! Check out Hereward the Wake for boggy robin hood. Also, for me confidence is key for accents . The character isn't doing an accent, that's just how they talk. If you're cast, you have to do something, so it's just got to be something you can do with no self consciousness regardless of accuracy. That's my approach, I'm a full time voice actor, might not be right but it makes sense to me and is a helpful mantra.

Transfemmes4murph

The worldbuilding sounds incredible from Jake and he should be more confident in the great work he’s done (ik its hard)- wet dream batman better be a pc

Kitt

I AM SO EXCITED TO LISTEN TO THE DM PAPA JAKE

Madison

Amazing!!! Jake is gonna kill it im so hype

Joe McGowan

Been waiting so long for this! Jake if you'd like some good reading on magic left the world and is now returning, check out Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke, it's a great book that covers an alt history around the Napoleonic war where magic is returning to the world.

Dayden

DM JAKE BABY LETS GOOOOOOOO. TEAM HURWITZ IS EATINGGGG

Robert

Kinda excited for this :) Hope Jake does well.. Still hoping for some pathfinder eventually though.

PolarityBear

"No one holds wood better than you, Woodpile!" Disagree, we also have the Horny Knight

Marley McDonough

Release the map! But seriously my favorite thing about NADDPOD has been the storytelling. Jake’s been a natural since the beginning. And mastering the mechanics will come in time. So excited to see them playing this world!

Sophie Buijsen

400+ comments of pure excitement for Jake and Murph's "French" accent. Don't pander to the haters! We know all of you will do a brilliant job!

Ian Hudson

Hell yeah Jake! This is gonna kick ass and you’re gonna do great

Ian Hudson

@caldwell Hudson is a very strong last name Lolol

Axel Ottel

If this is a knight heavy campaign I beg on my hands and knees for the crew to realise that the "Sir" goes with the FIRST NAME, not the surname!

Joke Hat

Oh wow I didn’t know there was a fighter subclass called DM

Blaize Gordon

I can't wait to gorge on this during my shift!!!

Jackmirfield

Woah steel hawk is awesome. I wanna play that

TheloniousPunkyBrewster

I feel you about 5.5, Still just feels icky and I don't trust WOTC to not pull the same shit as before ... 😒🤨

CatenarySun

Jake was waiting 30 whole minutes for that veto 😂 I felt it in my bones.

Jack M

Our prayers have been answered! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼, thank you Babayaga

Garga Lenoir

As a French person Emily did fine with her French-like accent. She avoided the annoying pitfalls - The "hon hon hon". No idea where that comes from, never heard anyone laugh like that. - Inserting some les mots français in the middle. People don't speak like that when doing foreign languages. - The weird aggressive tone Murph did in this (otherwise very funny) old video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDHDM7PfyYs I mean weird aggressive people might talk like that, but they'll be seen as lunatics. Your "there is no honor in mudtown" sounded good I thought! About chivalry being related to horses that's spot on. Horse in Cheval in French, so it's not hard to see the etymology.

Matthew Sands

For variable initiative off of a set number, steal the mechanic from Feng Shui where you have a positive die and a negative die. If they're even your init is the static value, otherwise it goes up or down as they indicate. Pick the relevant dice based on the amount of swing you desire.

Pavel Lishin

Holy crap, I'm so excited to hear him run this!

AutoReroll

5.5, the system so good D&D Beyond needs to trick you into using it. I just feel like they rushed it out without their usual standard of balancing and care because their CEO needed to show a provable bump in merchandise sales for this quarter.

Rain

YESSSSS OMG FINALLY JAKE DM!!!!!

Mr.Weinerson

I just wanna say, I’ve been listening since day one. Naddpod is the reason I became a DM in the first place and I’m overjoyed to see the great Jakester Von Jakiepoo take the mantel! You’ll do fantastic Jake, I can’t wait ♥️

ACK

I am beyond hyped, we better get to see that map at some point!

Nicknack

Dungeon Bro Jake?

lukekinn

Now I need to see this map

Craig Weatherhead

I’m begging on my hands and knees for Murph to do the “French” accent. Also, your world sounds amazing Jake you’re going to do great! Cannot wait.

dancelikeaman

I think a 3-shot (or so) is a perfect place to play with an accent for Disenchanted vaguely-Frenchman, because if it's annoying, we don't have to live with it for long! We've heard "quiet gruff boy" lots of times. It's Vaguely Frenchman's time to shine.

A. Lee. S

Alright. The moment I’m done Yumi and the Nightmares Painter, I’m starting Bright Sword. Convinced!

drmimms

Whoa! I'm so excited for this -- and Jake, you're going to do great! You've got a supportive table and a super cool world, both of which are key ingredients to a good time. :)

Cass Cassillas

Low fantasy is probably my favorite subgenre of fantasy. I've been so excited for this since Jake first mentioned wanting to DM something in the genre. Jake's grown so much as a DnD player and creator since the start of NADDPOD, I'm sure you'll do an amazing job bailiff!

ACK

Boudica! A celtic British national hero who fought against Roman occupation after her daughters were mistreated!

Aaron Sterne

Please do the French accent murph

Rob H.

Sunless Citadel was one of the very first adventures I ran as a DM. Can't hear Jake's take on it!

BriLeigh Spilde

Omg the way I squealed when I saw this. About to listen! 🙌🙌

DM Joe

RELEASE THE CONTINENT DRAWING!

k.allen

Drop that map in the pat(reon feed)

Matt Kilsby

YES!! I've been wanting Jake to take up the DM's chair for so long, he's going to be amazing

Gramm

This is going to be a real banger, can't wait!

Ro

Hard agree! I’m from the midlands and Callie’s brummie accent gave me so much joy!

Audrey

I'm soooo freaking excited!!!

Good Sir James

So psyched for Cake's DM Debut! I hope it goes longer than 3 episodes. I've been a longtime short rest/mixed bag listener, but I never post- I felt like I had to, in order to let the 2 Crew know that after Jake's campaign we NEED more Twilight Sanctorum aka Twanc. Like, a full Twanc campaign please.

Tara

Love everything about this! Love the world and cool names and everything! Love the fake French accent for murph and literally all of Emily's ideas. I stopped this in the middle because Emily mentioned naming her character Boudicca and that made me so excited i nearly dropped my phone! That's one of my fave historical people ever! I fully endorse that name (but i know any she picks will be amazing). I paused before hearing Caldwell's picks but psy knight was floated and that sounds awesome! Anyway much respect to Jake for jumping into dming for the first time in a recorded session! I know you'll do great! You're smart, have experience with the game and have great support!

Evan Cordero

This is gonna be awesome. Very excited to see Jake go from drinking in the fiddle to now lacing up his DM boots. You're gonna do great, Jake!

AXWH

DON JUAN OF THE DONJON 🏄🐉

Jon

Excited for Jake but I think now he will be too busy to ever guest on 8bit, shame

Tim Sauerland

Murph should totally go with the “French” acccent

Hakari

Excited for this Jake! Would be funny to pay homage to Amir by including a character that goes by the name of “The Chipmunk”. He could be a thief, with large cheeks, who hordes all his steals.

Jonathan Danner

For what it’s worth I like the French one!

Trisha

YESSSSSS DM JAKE

Jor Elare

Emily's chaste knight is loosely reminding me of Adam Driver's character in the Last Duel, which would fit the setting perfectly >.>

Corey Ruef

JAKE DM-ING WILL BE SO HYPED Also Jake would love an Aragorn, King of Gondor deck because it’s not 5 mana and Jake could be King

Lexi H

Murph i pledge myself to fighting anyone that takes issue w the accent. It’s so good and instantly brought me so much joy. But follow ur heart

Jbird723

Jake DM?? We are eating in 2025

Alexis

omg! I just started episode 1 of C3 but I might just have to listen to this as it comes out. Go Jake!

Brady Young

OH MY FUCKING SHIT IM SO EXCITED FOR JAKE TO DM

Noah

The horny knight aka the horned knight

Marc Capo

I haven't been this excited since I had my baby!

Kellyd

Caldwell's surprise baby is currently higher!!

Omar Mtz

You can do it Jack!!!!

Erik Boudreault

Soooooo excited for Jake in the DM seat his world is the exact one I wanted to make for a campaign of my own I love it!!

Sand Panda

Murph... you described a playable type in the old MMO FFXI (11, not 14). The Dragoon. They wear purple gear, fight with a lance (or sword), jump on targets and their back story is linked to a "French" like kingdom. You basically described my old character, lol.

Sand Panda

Oh! They also fight along side a baby dragon.

Totally Offside

Love how much Murph slow played the reveal of his vaguely French catchphrase. "Zer eez no honeur in Maudtown."

Carlo Puche

Holy crap!!!! Let's go Jake!!!!!!

Jenna

literally fist pumped reading the title

Patrick

Hyped for this one.

Joshua Steiner

When I saw the title in my feed I shouted! So excited for this campaign!

Doctor Ransom

The Sunless Citadel was one of my first dungeon crawl mini-campaigns when I first started playing D&D and I’m super stoked that Jake’s including it for his first DMed game. So proud of you Jake, you’re gonna crush it!

Joey Hosty

Hell yeah Jake! I'm so excited to listen to this!

Ryan C.

Y'all should lean so unnecessarily hard into the Dispatch inspired backgrounds. Emily's knight "stole a ring from a flying horse" God and that's why her own steed abandoned her. The "ring is all rusty now" and she's on a quest to restore its luster and regain favor from the horses to earn her title back. Along the path to Mudtown she found a badger and a one-eyed toad that are now her familiars.

Gwen Gilpin

So excited for this! Jake DMing! Arthurian shit! Possible French accents! Bogs! Birds! This campaign is going to be right up my alley.

Martin

Hoping for this mini campaign they don’t have super tight editing - would be fun to hear Jake and gang fumble around and figure out things for both DMing and 5.5, similar to how the first campaign had a lot more “learning moments” throughout of everyone figuring out the game.

ALotFruity

Let’s goooooooo Jake!!!!!

Taylor

I’m so happy and excited!!

Holden

IM SO EXCITED

Tiffany

I'm still on campaign 3 but this is the COOLEST

fresh03

Can't wait for the mini campaign! Sunless Citadel is a ton of fun to run as a DM, just stay loose and never outright say no to a PC idea and you'll have a blast!

Sable Szczeklik-Silvius

Dude!! I’ve absolutely had that same nightmare! Where my computer is a limp ikea instructions manual and I can’t get it to work!

jaydee meowr

Oh yes, love that Cadwell suggests a character that is putting things in his mouth. Very on brand for the player 😜

Cyrus

I’ve been that island in NC! It’s really cool, I even found half of a horse pelvis bone there and am in the process of cleaning it.

Argonautica

Once again I'd like to recommend an MCDM class if you're open to 3rd party. In this case the Beastheart, very fighter like, kind of battle master like, but they also *really* lean into having a companion pet... like a bird maybe.

Hostage4hire

THIS IS WHAT WE BEEN WAITING FOR

Lonestar

If you are playing by "the rules" then that's what they are. Homebrew-wise you can do what you want. But rules as written, if you are playing by 2024 rules, you must use the new version of the subclass if it exists. I only mentioned it at all because they talked about how there weren't many options to choose from with 2024 classes, but the old stuff is technically still allowed. Same with backgrounds. There are guidelines in the book for using 2014 background with 2024 characters. It's pretty neat. At the end of the day, whatever they wanna do is dandy!

Nick Nelson

I’m so incredibly excited for this

KingHalt

This is going to be awesome!!! Jake you have TRULY come so so far since 2018 and I speak for every NADDPOLE when I say we are so proud of you and support you 100%!!!!!!

Hannah G.

Hey me too! It’s been super fun learning DnD as a listener along with Jake

Nicholas

OMG this is so exciting! I should have guessed that Jake would be dm since you guys said it would be an exciting announcement! Although to be fair it’s been a hot minute since y’all have talked about it so you’re sneakiness worked

Nicholas

I can definitely think of a few cases where a firm ‘no’ is needed but I get what you are saying lol

Torrey

I'm so psyched. I was really hoping to have a DM Jake campaign.

fresh03

I prefer to do a little negotiating to bring things back to reality rather than just outright denial to my PC's, plus this is Caldwell, Murphy, and Emily, how far could they take it? Lol

bj cox

I’m so excited

Nia R

YESSSS DM JAKE!!!

KSM101

This is fantastic watching Jake grow from not remembering his action surge and second wind to being a master of all his fighters stuff to now finally confident to Dm for the rest of the 2 crew I'm absolutely excited for this I feel like I'm growing along side my man as well I got into naddpod because I didn't know much of DnD so learning with Jake has been wonderful

Cmzzy P.

Been waiting for this!!

Samuel Gray

The bit where grampa is reminiscing about misty stepping as a bonus action etc is so funny

Hammy

Back in my day we walked to school in difficult terrain at the cost of half of our movement speed both ways 👴🏻

Jackie Hale

YESSSSSSS!!!! I’m so excited! Jake, you’ll be amazing!

Bree

HUGE!!!! I’m still at the beginning of C3 but I’m so looking forward to listening to Jake’s first DM arc once I’m caught up!

Chris J.

Silence everybody else. Jake is DMing

Cora Bright

I’m so excited!!!! Hopefully something fun to call him comes up like “DEmily” or “Dunkle Caldwell” Best I got so far is Jungeon Master or DJ (Dungeon Jake)

Zane R

Hell yeah, DM Jake!!! You got this! Also, Between Two Fires mentioned! Such a good book!

Li I

Regarding the initiative thing - i think the new Alert feat is good for that. You add your proficiency bonus to initiative and you can trade place in initiative with any willing PC as long as you’re both conscious. It’s obviously not as good previous Alert feat, but it’s a background feat, so it makes sense. Plus the surprised condition is different anyway…

Li I

I am so excited for this! Seeing magic coming back to a place the lost its magic is my favourite kind of story. And the characters sound very cool and weird, which is the best combination. Jake, good luck! We are rooting for you and happy that you’re doing this 💙

Heck

People don’t talk about how uber drivers are the modern knight

Chuck P

Let’s go Jake everyone is counting on you!

Geeksforlunch

Jake DMing for the crew is awesome! It's gotta be like watching an apprentice take their first solo steps!

Salem

DM JAKE!!!

Jessie Kuehm

The way I SQUEALED when I read the title. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Dale Jefferson

Don’t let us down Jake. There’s a lot riding on this one bro. Dungeon Jakester? Is that a good nickname??

Oakenguard

You guys might consider a 2024 barb if the theme is Norse ish. They got some sweet upgrades and would be sick in low magic, especially in lower levels.

bj cox

You got this Jake

Aiden

so incredibly excited jack, this is a big opportunity youve been given here! dont fuck it up. dont fuck it up. do NOT fuck it up.

Thrath

Oh my god this all sounds amazing!! Emily’s squire idea sounds so much fun! And a guy named Helmet is amazing! Murph with the birds so good! And Jake’s world is so so sick! I can’t wait with whatever they all decide to do and feel like Jake is so ready for this!!

FlintyFlynn

So excited!! I better get to catching up :D

Adrian

Jake DM! Lets go!!!! You got this

Tuesday Hernandez

Murph PLEASE be a disgruntled frenchman who talks to birds

Elizabeth Harris

I’m so excited about this! And like a typical First time DM- there’s so many ideas that this arc will last longer than he expects! So many “one shots” are actually 4-8 sessions! So many great ideas Jake!

Kyle Veach

This is SO GODDAMN exciting!!!!

Thomas

This going to be AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

anoakleaf

Dude!! You got this Jake.

aloox

THIS MIGHT EVEN BE BETTER THAN CAKE????

William Corley

Three episodes?! Nah. I'm going to need a full length campaign of this. Period.

derek howard

French accent Murph is a must.

Stabitha

BOGS BOGS BOGS BOGS. I played a bog druid and every game came through with a different bog fact.

John EldenRing

Also, 1100 likes and 500 comments, We nadpoles were hungry for the DM jake arc

Taylor

This is the best news of the new year!

Devin

Don’t know if this was a joke or not but if you need music for the new series I’m a composer looking for work! I’ve done grimdark fantasy stuff!

may-rose

smiled like an idiot in the grocery store upon seeing this notif!! so proud and best of luck, john! :D

Professor Pratt

Jake, I am so psyched for this. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you have truly grown as a player and we ALL support you 100%!!!

George

So amped for this!!!!!!!

DarthTurkey28

I’m truly so excited! Can’t wait to watch Jake DM! You got this Jake!

dummythixon

So so stoked for this also, I recently learned about the illrigger class and think some of those subclasses could be really cool here as PCs or NPCs!

Maya B

For a cool low-magic historic fantasy I highly recommend The Lost Queen trilogy by Signe Pike, it’s about the last pagan kingdoms in northern England as early Christianity starts to take hold. There’s a lot of very cool descriptions of subtle magic and working with nature, and it kinda gets into our relationship with ancient history and earlier philosophies/spiritualities. Felt very on-theme and also something I think especially Emily would like potentiallly ?

Bobert G

So stoked for this

Summer, Autumn Eladrin

I kinda hope Emily plays the love-lorn chivalric knight to contrast Murph's grizzled cynical knight and Caldwell's bandit who just wants to make a new crew

Meg Shallanberger

That you will do will great, Jake, is a given. You all on naddpod have gotten me through hellish times. I'm thrilled to see your new world.

Meg Shallanberger

I started listening to naddpod same time you started playing on it. I simultaneously fell in love with the show and you. I'm sending the joy you've given me back to you.

Evan Fleischer

Hey, Jake! Excited for the ... three-shot? For what it's worth, here are two quick unsolicited things that have always helped me, a forever DM: (1) 'Go slow in order to go fast.' What might strike you as slow in some way is inevitably going to strike the listener as a -- 'Whoa, how did he do that?' (Athletes aren't athletes because they 'hurry up,' you know?) (2) Yes, yes, there's "rEsPoNsIbIlItY," but ... you're telling a story with your friends! And that's super cool. Peace, love, rock and roll, cake, Grinch, etc etc etc.

Brandon McLaughlin

Maybe not for this campaign, but i think you would love the alternate and new classes made by creator LaserLama. His done a complete overhaul of all the martial classes and has made even his new classes. My whole group has gradually converted over to uses his stuff.

Fanwithglasses

Was telling my boyfriend "I hope we see Jake DM sometime," after C3 ended. New Year's miracle indeed

Caitie McD

I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS! i was re listening to the early hearthside where u had just started to play, and seeing how far you’ve come is so exciting !!! congrats, you’re gonna kill it jake 💗

Ken

Exciting, and I hope it goes great! But it always seems so weird to me when the setting is such a cool dark world and then people make joke characters. I mean I guess it makes sense since this is more of a comedy show, but I feel it would be more fun with actually serious characters.

David Klein

I'm straight up Jaking it. And by it haha well lets just say my Nadpoles

Mr. Dude Sky

So excited! Jake will be a great DM I can already tell by the names on his map. Emily always has the most interesting and varied character concepts, can't wait to see who she will play! The Class Murph is looking to play is awesome. The Griffin's Saddlebag is some of the best DnD content I've run, I cannot shill enough for the Griffin's Saddlebag. I have a player who uses that subclass and thought it was so much fun. I hope you go with this one. Caldwell with the blindside characters. Always a wildcard and always a lot of fun. Can't wait to see what shenanigans he can get into with this. Jake should prepare himself

Magestain

Screw ze 'aterz ov ze axe-AWNTS! Doo 'zem enniewey! We must niedz 'zis frAWNCH berd-man!

Ilana Galpert

did you guys know there was a peruvian drug bust led by the grinch????? somebody is taking surprise round too seriously this is grinch life imitating grinch art edit: I put the video link here but it occurred to me it might not be appropriate so I took it down but it is on youtube

Ilana Galpert

i am sorry if this is too explicit it occurred to me it might be but i'm not sure? there is no violence and there are no firearms and it felt like...i needed to tell you

Monk3yTouch3r

ITS HAPPENING! I got my cup turned up, on the pursuit of happiness. Happy new years ya'llvrybody

Ian Dack

Super excited for Jake to DM was on my wish list for the short form campaigns!

Monk3yTouch3r

Can't wait to hear the first submission that Bailiff Cake has to read in Court that was written by the crew. 😂

Ilana Galpert

the idea of being able to use animal messenger on any creature with a flying speed is soooo funny. Imagine you can talk to animals if they're flying, so if there are no birds around you have to cast fly on a random creature, and THEN you keep having to convince them not to use their new powers to fly away (I know animal messenger isn't speak with animals but the idea tickles me so)

Mikel

But what news of the granaries in this campaign? Are they depleted?

Georgia

God I'm so excited to see what Jake has for us! and I'm especially anticipating what wacky a dynamic Murph Emily and Caldwell will fall into; this is the first time we get that specific combination! I've been on the fence for awhile but Jake taking that leap must at last motivate me to dm the campaign I've been pondering. can't wait for whats next!!!

Matt Kilsby

The numbers of comments and likes on this post are making me smile. I hope Jake is seeing this as a sign of how loved and appreciated he is, although I’m sure he’d just say it’s just added pressure 😂

Dr. Eggman

My head cannon is that all the crows in this world are somehow descendents of caw caw

P MW

Hugely looking forward to the roleplay of dry siege logistics and crop rotations

Signe Krantz

Pleaaaaase Murph do a French-ish accent if you feel comfortable with it, like an Italian accent it's never wrong to do

Joey

Hell yeah brother! I’m so excited!

Melissa Shilale

MURPH! I had a vision of you putting on the French accent in the beginning then reveal that it’s fake and go gravely.

K C

Between two Fires was a great read. Some fantastic horror/demonic elements to it.

heavy harry

I've been waiting for this for sooooo long

Pali Endi

“Peel the magic away” is an evocative image that I hope gets revisited ~ You’ve got this, Jake!

Victoria Fair

I'm so excited for this world and for Jake the DM!! You're going to do great and you've got a table full of supportive players!

EternalDM

I got so excited when I heard Jake was gonna dm!!! Not because I think it’ll be good! Just just to see his growth as a nerd!!!

Old Dirty Blastoise

NADDPOD world/character creation is my new favorite content

Xanian Jamfalcon

Spheres of Might 5e has some great non magic character options!

Tnm1401

That psuedo-french accent was dope Murph!!!

munch lax

Im sure someone has said this but i love swinging the sword in the stone and then while fighting the boss he smashes the stone and has become the chosen one

Rafael C

So hype!! I'm a sucker for playing the secret occultist in settings like this! I'm very intrigued for the vibes and the worldbuilding!! Love this safe atmosphere y'all are giving Jake to DM, very much appreciated (specially as someone who's been summoning up courage to DM – hope my friends are half this understanding lol). In that same spirit, don't worry about us Murph, French it away if it makes roleplaying more enjoyable!

Evin Miller

I don't say this lightly, but this sounds amazing!

zach stewart

My first module I DM'd was The Sunless Citadel! Excited to see how you play around with it! You will do great Jake, remember that nobody knows what you have planned, so you can't possibly be wrong! :)

Lawbind Studios

I see “With DM Jake” and drop everything else I’m doing. This comment is before listening: I’m excited AF for you Jake!

Joe S

I am so hyped for DM Jake and it's kind of funny how nervous he is when within 10 seconds of him explaining his world I was locked in. I have never been more interested in anything in my life. I cannot wait to see Jake DM. I want to hear the voices for NPC's, I want to hear him read box text. I want to hear him design encounters. I am ready!

Jess J

🖤as someone who has never played (def not DM’d) a DnD game : new DM adventures make me feel a special sort of jazzed and even more empowered to maybe play some day. Soooo excited for this, Jake-rock on! This is going to be amazing!

Austin Wiggin

I'm so hyped for Jake's DM premiere and i'm so HYPED FOR THE BUFFALO BILLS LETS GO!

Bill Kelly

Now that Jake is no longer the only one who hasn’t DM’d, does his bailiff status increase to be *slightly* less lowly?

Vayne

Send it with the voice Murph, fuck the haters 🙏 also thanks for the book rec, let me return the favor. Stormlight Archive series by Brandon Sanderson Honestly anything by Sanderson, but this series really spoke to me

Alyssa

You're gonna do great, Jake! I'm so excited to watch you come into your own as a DM! Don't worry about messing up, we're here for the ride and vibe. I'm so excited; this world sounds so amazing!

Totally Offside

I've been listening to the general on repeat since this episode of the pod so thanks for that...

Dave M

"There is no honor in Mudtown" reminds me of the poem "Casey at the bat" ("there is no joy in mudville...")

Tessa Pettyjohn

Yuusss!! I knew who Emily was referring to before she mentioned the name and I was so feckin stoked!

Excelsidorks!

Jake you've got this man. I believe in you!

Sami Kerwin

congratulations on taking the leap, jake! i also dipped my toe into DMing for the first time recently, and luckily you have a great starting place: your players love you and want to help you succeed! all of us do, too, and i hope that gives you a little reassurance. absolutely cannot wait to listen to yall’s story

Cooper Erikson

Hell yeah Jake is taking baby steps behind the GM screen love to see it, let's go man. Also wow very impressive setting building that you have already done, love the concept for the world and always makes it good when you have a bit of mystery right out front driving plot forward from the outset.

J. Gro

Y'all are too great to spend time caring about people bitching on the internet about your accents! Those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind (or rather, think you're freaking rad and support your choices)! Also, in my teacher stress dreams, the kids are out of control and the other staff/my administrator are completely unsupportive. I haven't ever DMed, but I feel your pain.

Professor Pratt

The Bright Sword is amazing!! I just finished it and now I’m on a full-on Arthur kick!!!!

Professor Pratt

Listening to this now is freaking hilarious!!!

WitchKnightRen

Man, Between Two Fires was such a stellar book. It's been over a year since I read it and there are still scenes from it that give me the chills just from remembering them

Rook

More Naddpod to listen to!!! ^_^ I've enjoyed everything from the great DMily, Duncle Caldwell, and Murph, and I'm excited to hear what world and story Jake has to offer us! Y'all have gotten me through a lot, and I'm overjoyed that you do what you do. <3

Lognan

I’m catching up (slowly but surely) and I’ve been to Shackleford Banks (the island in the OBX)! They’re really cool to see. I’m a North Carolina native but I’ve only been maybe two or three times so now I’m thinking I should go again

Camilla Jefferson

i'm on ep29 of campaign 3 but i really want to start Skaldova - are there campaign 3 spoilers? can someone reply and let me know? thank you! :)

LJ KA

I listened to this after finishing Skaldova!! Its so fun to hear how this began!

Hipster

It’s always so fun to listen to episode 0 of naddpod campaigns because you’re hearing all their character ideas and you won’t know which one they settle on until episode 1! Love it!

Dakota Smithson

No maybe in short rest but main feed is clear

Kyrsten

Listening to this over a year later after the entire campaign has completed but now I am absolutely rooting for a Murph character with a city pigeon familiar one day

GhostToken

Starting my third listen with the announcement of Skaldova campaign two!

Vivian The Lost

Ahhh Soo hyped to listen to Jake holding the reigns so god damn excited. (I'm catching up slowly😂)
