Regarding Woodsy Owl: (he's real cute). I live Oregon and the logging industry is HUGE here. And if I had to guess the actual effects from regulations that woodsy owl was the face of prevented a bunch of loggers from doing their thing. There's a lot to it but i know they plant seeds and cultivate a new forest to grow after they cut down a section. So there's a sustainable growth and resource out there. Im sure both parties do things good to look out for the environment. But high wood prices mean high housing/construction prices which is a massive industry! Im a fan of not polluting. I took part in the Gambler 500 and picked up trash on the offroading trails. Good times.

Oregonian here! I'm thinking Woodsy was probably caught in the crossfire between the larger battle between the logging industry and saving the endangered Spotted Owl, which lives in the old growth forests of the PNW. Interestingly Woodsy and the Endangered Species Act were created pretty close to each other (1971 and 1973, respectively), and a lot of wildlife and natural resource industries were affected by the act being put into place. By the 80s and 90s tensions were super high between environmentalists and logging as there was that whole wave of eco terrorism and tree sit ins.

They didn’t know it was gonna be each others’ sons, so the majority of them just pretend to be about it to remain paid to stay at a lovely seaside villa. The 2 exceptions make for nonstop wild interactions. A woman burns her whole relationship with her son to lose a game that she thought worked the opposite way. One dude, Gabe, had a gf back home so all his confessionals were crafted to “not technically be cheating” Please watch this show. The producers got it wrong in all sorts of fun ways

So apparently the woodsie owl hate was exacerbated by the fact the grey spotted owl was classified as critically endangered in the 80s, preventing trees they may be nesting in from being felled. So the logging industry just hated owls generally during the 80s, and Woodsie caught a lot of that hate due to being an owl more than his message.

Elf Shot is from Book of Ebon Tides, in case folks are wondering DND Beyond Tip (to fix all the spell cruft that was mentioned) - go to Characters -> Edit Character in question, make sure you're on the Home tab (left of class), only check "Core Rules", "Expanded Rules", and "2014 Core Rules" (it's finally been broken out into easier segments). You can also enable/disable specific partnered content. Folks forget they can go back to this tab after they created a character, since when you hit "manage character / levels" in the character sheet, it drops you to Class tab.

@Murph -- College of Glamour is powerful because of its bonus action that lets your entire party move without opportunity attacks with their reaction AND gain temp HP. The dance thing is useless. The sheer utility of a group-wide reactive move that grants a bunch of temp HP is massive in combat, however, you guys play Theatre of the Mind, where this sort of thing is less useful because the location of your characters are sort of nebulous and abstract. On an actual battle map this feature is gargantuan.

My guess is that the Woodsy costume used real owl feathers, which are regulated by some form of government. I remember a field trip to a zoo or something when I was a kid in rural Washington. They said that they had the permit for keeping an owl, but not the feathers so they had to burn any that the owl shed. So it might explain the federal oversight of the costume destruction.

Here’s the nuanced discussion: AI data centers are depriving families living near them of water and electricity. AI is being used to spread disinformation on the internet to sway political public opinion in a direction that does not benefit the masses. AI is being used as an excuse to fire thousands of tech employees while it makes code that is not secure and has many bugs. It also threatens artists as image generation becomes better and better. This is all in service to make billionaires even more money, like Sam Altman the CEO of openAI, and any benefit that you get in your day to day life is a direct result of all the other suffering it has caused so far. One more comment on this year-old episode, it’s actually pretty common for unused mascot costumes to be destroyed, it’s to protect the image of the mascot. They did the same with a lot of the old Chuck E. Cheese costumes. I don’t think they’re wild about the idea of people collecting them but their real worry is someone dressed as Charles Entertainment Cheese holding up a liquor store while Woodsy the Owl watches the door
