kin

impeccable timing. just got in line at the dmv. thank u naddgods 🫡

jackalope503

I remember a road trip my family took from Oregon to San Francisco, I was sitting in the backseat listening to my cd player. Well I was evidently listening a little too loudly because my dad said that we might as well play it in the car cd player if I was going to blast my headphones. I reluctantly agreed and was then subjected to my dad mercilessly roasting Hoobastank for at least 3 or 4 songs before his respect for me had completely drained and he gave the cd back lol

dea

the director of weapons, zach cregger, said the run is based on the photo of the indonesian girl covered in napalm. big bummer ): also probably a little of what murph said - like they're being puppeted

Pamphleteer

Of all the bands I listened to that my dad hated, Hoobastank was definitely the one that got the most razzing, why was that?

Clever Innuendo

Is it a running joke to pronounce Naruto wrong that I missed the origin of?

Henrique Scott

Pictures at an Exhibition mentioned! I love Mussorgsky

clerby

as someone raised irish catholic with two brothers, murph’s distaste for even the idea of trad wives is deeply refreshing 🫶🏽

CommodoreBlue

Genuinely, thank you for not spoiling Weapons. I haven’t seen it yet, and unlike IF, I actually want to.

Kailie Hind

Scrappy doo being the villain in the second live action scooby doo movie was THE best. Very meta

Evil Grimace

I have a vivid road trip memory of watching The Incredibles (plus all of the special features) on repeat on a tiny DVD player for the entire duration of a 14 hour trip.

kaylee w

no patreon email yyyyyy

Houston

My grandpa was also a devout Pepsi fan. Had a few sips everyday. Shout out Nacho ☝️🫶

Jorde

I’m with Emily sibling singing is so beautiful 😭 me and my brothers sang grand ol flag allll throughout the Florida Everglades lmao

John Richardson

I'm sorry to say that Scrappy was the villain in the first live action, 2002. But I agree. Meta and fun!

David Allison

"Wait, Scooby Doo has a lineage like Donkey Kong?!?!" was the moment of the episode for me. I really hope the crew compares the family trees sometimes, they both have girls named Dixie. Also the fact Great Grandpa Scooby was a "Civil War hero" makes that possibly extremely problematic. a la Gex in WWII.

Christopher Lasasso

Finally we are seeing Rudy Giuliani given his flowers lmao

Collin Baker

“Toby McGraw”? My blood instantly boiled into gas

Ilana Galpert

Who ISN'T starstruck by Baba Yaga??!?!

Ilana Galpert

I'm pretty confident Emily doesn't read these, but I have a fact I think she'd really enjoy (if anyone who reads this is in a position to pass it along.) Tiamat, the five headed dragon, gets her name from the ancient Mesopotamian religion, where she's goddess of "the above ground sea." She's also a mother goddess (aka boy mom) to gods and monsters alike. She's generally thought of as a dragon or sea serpent, but her actual physical description is "a tail, a thigh, lower parts (which shake together), a belly, an udder, ribs, a neck, a head, a skull, eyes, nostrils, a mouth. "

salty molly

hey emily & other baba yaga fans, if yall ever visiting, there is a restaurant in Portland OR called kachka that serves delicious russian fare & the interior has the nods to the house held by chicken feet!

heavy harry

16 minutes in, and it's impossible to know what this show is. Like, what is this podcast? Simply incredible.

Dillydylandally

Baba Lasaga got her named butchered by ‘y group when we played curse of strahd. Her name ended up being Robert Lasagna.

Connor

Shoutout to caldwell’s “it’s a star struck odyssey” joke which I think did not get enough love.

Just Aiden

"4 year old daughter" hit like a damn truck.

Rafael C

Please bless us with a Scooby-doo deep dive mixed bag / 8bbc / the view crew

Cody Blevins

Saying "I want a cream pie that I can dunk my face into" and it being about starting a business is one of the most Caldwell things I've ever heard

aiyana graham art

murph got me with "NADDPOD ass sentence" because he's so right

Don Johnson

The last time the wife and I took the kids on a family road trip to Dollywood, we listened to Twilight Sanctorum on the return trip. That has to be weird for you guys.

Elizabeth Boskey

I definitely identified with Velma. I knew I was smart but also that I was very uncool

Dillon Davis

My dad was a heavy car drinker. Drink of choice? Dt. Mountain Dew. Once we finished our bottles, we’d turn and smile at each other and see how far in the car we could throw the bottle over our shoulders. My dad was always parched.

deranged pigeon

when my little brother was 7 he got SO upset bc our mom was drinking and driving, what was she drinking you ask? a caprisun😭

bella !

as a fellow southerner, the jeff foxworthy tape went crazy on the roadtrip with dad (jerry seinfield was a close second)

Josh Wolff

I'm SO GLAD we found a near perfect NADDPOD sentence with "Wait, Scooby has the same type of lineage that Donkey Kong has?". It's like half a Grinch short but it's near perfect

Bajpie

Naddpod talks so much about ai that one of the first recommended podcasts for me is AI led D&D

Tim

On the subject of the kid’s weird run in Weapons, my friend said he saw an interview with the director and said the run is trying imitate that famous picture from the Vietnam War of the little naked girl running from napalm. So…that’s unsettling.

Marbeline

Quick BLS input in the comments of this show about a show about a game, don't do a blind finger sweep on someone choking. You might end up pushing things further and make the choking worse

Stations & Starships

When I hear 'heilmlich' I just think of Choke by Chuck Palahniuk

Zach Brown

As a trumpet player and band director, please talk more about Mussorgsky

Mickey Mars

Me, thinking of myself as a Velma: 👁👄👁

Jordan Therrien

Hyper specific pull of listening to Fat Lip in the car with your dad in high school. That line specifically my dad clocked and said “did they just say ‘bullshit?’” And I had to say “uh, no…. They said ‘abortion’”

Kate N

My dad would drink coffee but straight out of a regular ass mug. Just a ceramic mug from the house he brought in the car. So does my mom. And my brother. I'm the only one in my family who finds this strange.

chlo!

“a naddpod ass sentence” funny enough it’s also a drawfee ass sentence

Jakewell Murphily

My mom used to work at my elementary school when I was a kid and she would drive us to school together and we would sing Barry White in the car. I think about that often. I miss you mom. Gone 20 years now

KnockOffGrimReaper

absolutely nothing to do with the episode, but would you guys be willing to talk about sonic underground? I was changing tv channels for my younger cousins and the only thing they could agree on to watch was sonic. However when i put it on it was a channel that exclusively played sonic underground where sonic is in space and as a triplet with a brother and sister as hidden royalty and also a famous band? It honestly made my eyes and head hurt from the bright colors and I would love to hear for murph to describe what the hell was happening, while jake and emily make me more confused, and cauldwell bounces between bits and the burden of brain deep etched knowledge he must earnestly share.

Kendall 🎶

They did this one for a mixed bag back in 2021!

Doctor Ransom

This episode just dredged up a long buried memory of my family driving home from a ski day on the mountain circa 1999. I can remember so vividly me chilling, minding my own business in the back of the car listening to Rage Against the Machine’s magnum opus ‘Battle of Los Angeles’ on my headphones and the absolute bop “Guerilla Radio” is hitting my ears. My shithead older brother who’s just bored and wants to start a fight tells my Dad to put on the CD I’m listening to and I freeze in place as my Dad says “Okay” and I have to get my ass put on blast for the simple pleasure of enjoying peak late 90’s rap rock. Fuck you Ryan, you can eat a fucking rat.

Camilla Jefferson

this reminds me of one of my mum's favourite stories to tell from when i was little; iirc i'd phoned 999 because she'd taken pills (a normal dose of paracetamol for a headache) - presumably she got drowsy and fell asleep or something 😅

Logan

I was kind of hoping they would eat dream pastries. Emily would love the little old woman.

Parma Jun

They did do an episode and didn't like it. I have fuzzy memories of seeing one or two episodes as a kid because someone had taped it on VHS for me. Completely devoid of context except for that amazing opening number. I remember thinking it was the raddest shit ever like wdym SIBLINGS and DEEP LORE and MOM

xatlern

I don't think my dad ever had me take the wheel, but my dad drove a manual when I was little, and I definitely have memories of him letting me do the gear shift at an age when nowadays I wouldn't even be allowed in the front seat.

Scooter

The phrase “Scooby-Doo is the Donkey Kong of his McDuck family tree” is some sort of NADDPOD summing script.

Rebecca N

When I was really little (like 5-6, probably should not have been in the front seat) and my Dad was taking me home from school, once we were on the little two lane (Presumably empty) road going back to our house he would sometimes pretend to pass out while driving, and I'd reach over and "steer" the car until he "woke up". I always loved it

Emma Robinson

My god. I have also never seen my father drink anything while in a vehicle.

Blue Bee

Okay but the Baba Lysaga card is really sick tho

Mnixon

Thank u druncula

Jessica Petra

My Dad would do the "you take the wheel" bit. He would also take both hands off the wheel and drive with his knees.

Natural Dragon

Jake’s super power origin lore grows. His father has never drank anything while driving. Jake doesn’t burp and can control his dreams. What a powerhouse of a family

thiswayjose

I need this to keep running forever.

nandrusin

Fun fact, The finger sweep is no longer considered best first aid practice! Your just supposed to go straight to the Heimlich now a days.

Emma Waight

I have never felt more shaken and betrayed than I do hearing that Jake and Caldwell liked Scrappy Doo

David Lipscomb

I love y'all, but every single time you attempt to pronounce Naruto's name it irks me. It's pronounced Nah-Rue-Toe, not Nuh-Roo-Doe. They pronounce his name in EVERY SINGLE EPISODE

Jamie Matthews

Mixed Bag of the crew singing through the entire Aladdin song book pleaaaase!!

Evan

Fun fact about the Pepsi challenge: after one sip (how they did it for the ad campaign) more people prefer Pepsi, but if you survey them after drinking an entire glass Coke wins by a big margin

Melanie

throwback to monetized positivity

RoyGBivIsDed

It feels like a bit, right? Because even on Dimension 20 Naruto has been made reference and his name is said properly in front of both Murph and Emily. I feel like they do it because they know we are going to be in the comments lol

Konnor Wall

I have a very vivid memory of me kicking and screaming in the backseat begging my mom to put on the gummy bear song. Mind you I think I did this multiple times when we would go on road trips.

Ross Wright

Scooby doo is actually related to eldritch ctuhlu like creatures in scooby doo lore

James (plz make more trinyvale eps)

I’d wager Pepsi goes flat faster than Coke. With that said, in my opinion Pepsi definitely goes flat way too quick after opening… while Coke also goes flat like 10-15 minutes after opening. I’d rather drink RC Cola over either Pepsi or Coke. Give me a can of Barqs root beer, too.

Nye-Low

More and more I’m convinced Emily grew up in a cult compound. 🤣

James (plz make more trinyvale eps)

Uh.. so, Scooby Doo X Naddpod one shot when!? IMO, the lore of Scooby Doo/the Scooby Doo universe in general, is just begging for a one shot to take place in it. All together with the main cast and regular guest characters, there’s a rather large list of weird-ass side characters that Murph can have fun talking like lol. Hell, the show’s episodes were basically 1 shots already lol.

James (plz make more trinyvale eps)

I’ve been listening for so long, and I’ve come to the conclusion that they mispronounce a decent chunk of names and whatnot rather often. I don’t care in the slightest any more, it’s basically a bit imo lol. I will say that in the HBS/Mavrus Blazing Babe campaign, them calling the Lands End catalog an LL Bean catalog many tjmes over multiple episodes bugged me lol. They would go back and forth between Lands End and LL Bean, and NONE of them noticed before, during, or after. lol

Brianna B

Itchy....scratchy ...closet jump scare!

J. Gro

Driving with our knees is a proud family tradition. How else am I going to eat my breakfast in the car?? It didn't occur to me that it was anything short of normal until I started driving around with my husband - it positively horrified him.

J. Gro

I had to Google what a trad wife (and a girl's girl) was. Life off of social media is beautiful!

Jessica Petra

I had a very similar experience 😂

J. Gro

I for sure also had the Aladdin piano book (and the one for the Little Mermaid). They somehow didn't make it on our road trips, though.

J. Gro

The books also had instrumental scores, along with full-page color pictures. The first song in TLM was "Fathoms Below."

J. Gro

And if you're alone and choking on something, the back-of-a-chair maneuver is basically a way to give yourself the Heimlich!

Sarah Osgood

At the gym right now, listening to nadpod and I just took my headphones out to hear 'youth of a nation' playing over the speakers

Reverse Lamia

As someone with an inflated ego, I did identify with Velma but wanted to be/be with Daphne

Nick M.

Hey guys, love the show!! By the way…. How to say Naruto: Gnar-Roo-Toe How not to say Naruto: Nuh-Roo-Toe

Xander Hromiak

Pictures at an exhibition referenced 🗣️🗣️

Amelias Bedelias

The dad’s drinking and driving conversation had me in tears 😭

Marciece Howell

My memorable road music was a warped Larry the cable guy we listened to it so often and I was convinced from how high pitch his voice was that he was a Lil ol'skinny prospector.

Mike Rutledge

This episode just unearthed a memory of me at ~15 listening to The Offspring in the car with my dad, who’s only remark was something along the lines of “a window into the young male mind.”

Cortney Cline

Emily- my Mom is also a devout Pepsi drinker. Literally the only thing besides Pepsi I remember seeing her drink when I was a kid was milk, and that was only when she was eating spicy food or chocolate.

Jonathan Yarberough

When did things come out deserves its own collection section in patreon 🗿

Katie P.

Omg, I remember for a family roadtrip from NJ to Disney World we had a Ford Aerostar with the back seat taken out an an air mattress taking its place. We listened to a cassette of the book "Wizard's First Rule" by Terry Goodkind and the Dixie Chicks on a disk player while I did my summer homework or I played Rambo with my barbies

DungeonMama

I did too, but I couldn't find a definition of "girl's girl" that felt problematic, so I think I'm missing something. All the results I got were just about women supporting other women, which doesn't give "sick to my stomach" vibes lol What did you find in your search?

J. Gro

I don't remember, I think I just got the general idea. It seems to me like the "sick to my stomach" concept is more about how people use it to kind of promote themselves as opposed to being genuine? Or maybe that people use it to sort of brand themselves? Again, I'm not on social media, so I'm just assuming it's in line with the vibe of people who are vocally "boy mom" or "trad wife."

Caitlin Hirschler

My dad used to work for Pepsi so that man ALWAYS has a Diet Pepsi on him ALWAYS

pluckythechicken

I just love the way Emily says things. Her incredulous "Scooby has the same lineage as Donkey Kong?" is just yet another gift

Kaidan C

No joke, im a god at “when did things come out” It’s the least impressive superpower of all time

Venus Astria

Where was Yankee Doodle Doo on January 6th

tori

caldwell softly in the background “oh my god fred…*scoff* full of yourself much?” has me in tears

Joe Howard

My mom and thus our family are huge Pepsi stans- get Coke outta here

Walker Thurman

Me internally: I probably used to be a Velma, now I’m a shaggy Emily: I think you have to have an inflated ego to consider yourself a Velma Me, internally but sad: … yeah that’s true

Colton Merrifield

With music in the car with riding with him, It is unbelievable on how many guitarists my dad taught their iconic solos to.

Hooples Rich

This short rest is so amazing, I don't know why the whole asking the group text if dad ever drinks while meaning it like that is funny but it's great

Beth Sophia

The 1990 Suburban didn't have cup holders, not even the ones with the center console. You had to buy aftermarket ones, which are still available on eBay.
