My heart goes out to the creator of Grisby. I think we’ve all had an NPC we loved our party hasn’t… but I don’t think any of us have been so thoroughly dunked on that our little guys become pussy eating AI malware in the course of half an hour. Also this was the most psychotic dice Christ confessional ever. That’s not even how some of the classes work in terms of spells. Bards don’t prepare spells, and by the late game they can have literally WHATEVER spell they want from magical secrets. Absolute maniac, this one.

I have had the same thing happen a lot for my campaign with normal suggestion. My player is chill so I told him I’m gonna be a lot tighter on “a reasonable request” is. He was using it as a zone of truth, calm emotions, and suggestion boarding on trying to dominate person. Again he is chill and I told him I didn’t want to stop the fun so for zone of truth style thing for someone who just wants money using it to ensure they tell the truth for coins is fine but when it’s the BBEG or something it won’t work the same. I didn’t want to squash the fun but it was out of hand. The spell is very vaguely written and relies heavily on DM discretion and a players real life persuasion skills. Very fun but is annoying to talk about because rules as written are very vague.

The new rules for suggestion are looser but for this spell I will say this for the “womp” hungry party. You have to ask yourself if the DM had a random NPC do this to the party would it feel cheap and unfair? If so you probably should understand the DM doesn’t want to go there. I’m not saying everything has to be fair ( I had a dm constantly use silvery barbs with everyone bc one player had it stocked) but be reasonable. If the dm said “a random cloaked figure rolls up and says give me all your gear now” mass suggestion. Oh? 3 party members fail ? He takes your stuff and teleports away good bye all magic items.
