This version of The Grinch is one of my favorite movies. Back in the dark days of Hollywood Video and Blockbuster, when I was in 8th grade, I had a hernia surgery and I had to stay home for 2 weeks. Happy Hoglidays! As a similar aged person, I watched the Grinch with my kids a couple years ago (so 14, 11, and 8) and they all three were into it. But they already knew Jim Carey from Sonic and Dumb and Dumber and we watch D20 and listen to NADDPOD so maybe just similar sense of humor.

I have a weird Rapture story. When I was kid my sister and I went to a (non Christian) camp in the early 2000s. One day they woke her and other kids up eat to go down to the lake for canoeing and told them to leave there clothes out. They told the rest of us that those kids had been raptured and we were left behind. IDK why they did this but I do remember freaking out because I had to figure out how to tell our parents that my little sister was raptured to heaven.

We were on a school trip and I was wearing this like wrap skirt my dad made me, and as I was walking I guess one of the knots came undone because the back just fell to the side, like the dramatic unveiling of a new car or something, revealing my underwear to the group of cool kids that were walking behind me. I feel like 50% is the right rotten tomato score for this. Jim Carrey is unreal in this movie but everybody else is pretty meh. The whos are creepy looking and the story is mid/mostly steps on its own message because of how justified the Grinch is to hate these whos (who are pricks and consumerist to an insane degree). If any other actor on earth had played the Grinch, this would have been brutal. JC elevates it to decent.

It’s a Wonderful Life bombed when it came out. Years later TV was able to broadcast it yearly, now a Christmas classic, A Christmas Story, same thing. TNT now shows it for 24 hours. I'm always surprised by how much focus American Christians focus on the rapture. I'm no longer a practicing Catholic myself, but it wasn't even a dismissed concept in Canada. It just was not a thing. I talked about this with my mother (practicing Catholic of 60 years) and she didn't recognize the term. To be fair, hell was rarely referred to either. We were more about the immaculate conception, forgiveness of sins, and redemption. Come to think of it, the first time I ever played Dungeons and Dragons was with a church group after mass.

You're not alone, Emily. The rapture was explained to me when I was only 8 or so. I already had a diagnosed problem with anxiety and that information was devastating and caused so many panic attacks and such bad separation anxiety from my parents because I always thought if they aren't around me then maybe they got taken and I got left behind because I'm a bad person.

universal studios mentioned so I feel compelled to share my personal grinch experience the facts: my brother had his 13th birthday at universal studios in december. my divorced parents who were on BAD terms were both there. I was very mentally ill. the grinchcident: while my brother was off with friends, my parents orchestrated a lunch of just the three of us for the first time since I was 8. we sat in whoville. it was not in fact just lunch. it was my intervention. for drugs. so I had to sit there as my parents cried and discussed sending me to rehab as I was staring over their shoulders at the grinch in the distance who pointed and laughed and shook his grinchy butt at me. imagine trying to have a serious confrontation and keep a straight face within eyeshot of the grinch…. that image is ingrained in my mind indelibly and we laugh about it often

As someone born in 2000, for the majority of my life, I thought the live action was the only Grinch adaptation. I think for the first 5 years of my life, I would watch the VHS on repeat throughout the entire year. It is a cult classic and something I plan to watch with my faimly every year to come. Im so glad yall watched and reviewed it for NADDPOD!

A little late to this episode but I LOVE that you guys watched Jim Carrey's the Grinch. This is my absolutely favorite all time movie. I like to sleep with background noise and so im not exaggerating that this movie has played 1000+ times in my house over the years. I know all the lines and can visualize the scenes based in sound alone! My ultimate comfort watch. Fun fact: when the grinch hurt his hand during the heart growing scene, it wasn't part of the script but they kept it in anyway ❤️❤️

I was 10 when this came out and I had a big crush on Cindy Lou. This is also still one of my family's favourite Christmas movies. Regarding the town on a snowflake piece, my personal headcannon is that different snowflakes have different towns with different grinches. Some snowflakes are Chanukah, some are Kwanza, some are Winter Solstace, some are Yule, some are Saturnalia.

I’m almost caught up to the current feed but this year during Christmas I did watch Halloween is Grinch Night before hearing the crew watched it but I have to agree with Emily, some of the visuals in it were so beautiful - for a brief moment I almost thought it was good. It also has the greatest title. Ultimately, it’s just too boring.
