May be a regional thing! In my neck of the woods I find its most commonly used to distinguish what form you're getting the weed in like joints vs. flower, with the flower being just the straight nuggets. I'd be interested to know how legalization might effect its usage - it's a word I hear/use mostly in shops where you have more options of what you're getting and have the need to differentiate.
