When playing a TTRPG, how often are you actively imagining the characters and the actions they do visually? For me I find that it’s rather difficult to picture my characters in their totality, and I don’t necessarily have to contend with them wearing Hamburgler costumes or becoming a turtle.

As comedians, was there difficulty in juxtaposing the silliness in tone of the Triplets against the rather macabre and arguably-too-serious back drop that is Barovia? Personally, I felt like the setting itself acted like a perfect straight man to the antics, but I wonder if there was a temptation to *shudder* make the Triplets BECOME more serious characters in kind.

As you think about new seasons, would you ever think about changing game systems? After all, the show is called NOT Another D&D Podcast! Anyway, after you all gave The Bright Sword such a glowing review, I read it and loved it. It ignited this interest in Arthurian legend in me, and I thought about DMing a D&D Campaign about chivalric knights... But in researching it led me to discover Chaosium has a TTRPG called Pendragon that is exactly that. The players are knights in Arthurian times, characters have passions and traits that guide their actions... It's great! You all led me to playing it, but what if you all gave it a shot? I for one think it'd be amazing to see NADDPOD take on Pendragon.

Caldwell: when I ran Strahd, I found it difficult to balance his fascination with the party, his desire to 'test' them, and his overwhelming power difference. I've found that hard to balance with villains generally who outpower the party. You managed to turn that dynamic into making Strahd low-status (like playing the piano for a full day while waiting for dinner) without undermining his credibility as a threat entirely. How did you do that and maintain so much tension? Bonus Q: When did the Super Soaker (with slogan "Wetter is Better!") first come out on the market? I'll leave the answer to be googled so that you can all enjoy a guess, but things that came out the same year are: (1) the first McDonald's opened in the Soviet Union (Moscow), where people formed long lines to pay the equivalent of several days' wages to buy a single big mac, and (2) Die Hard 2 released in theaters. Hey guys DM question, you guys are the best in my book at "yes and" D&D improv, with hijinks, chaos and throwing the session baby out with the lore water for what I can only imagine is hilarious and exhausting to DM. My question is, I have a table of 5 players who all insist on being chaotic neutral murder hobos, who want to treat the world's they inhabit like they are governed by a rubbish AI that can be abused with dice rolls and that the story will just work out, no matter the consequences of their actions. Just wanted to thank you all for giving me the push I needed as a long time player to finally DM my 1st session. I had been thinking about doing it for a while and took the release of the DM Screen in the NADDPOD merch shop as the sign to pull the trigger. I ran a Grinch-inspired 1 shot for some friends over the Hoglidays and it went super well! I even 'borrowed' Caldwell's mechanics for Secret Sonic; having the players play it to pick their magic item rewards. One player cast Invisible on themselves so they could steal a sweet weapon from one of the others. And one poor player got stuck with a gift card to Best Buy (which doesn't exist in this world). Going to be DMing a mini campaign for some friends soon and I can't wait! You all make me want to play more and take bigger chances both in the game and out. Thanks!

I have a book recommendation for Emily, it's called Mountain Witches: Yamauba by Noriko Tsunoda Reider. It's maybe kind of dry and academic but it's about the history and stories surrounding the Japanese folklore figure "Yamauba" or "Yamamba" who is an old lady (sometimes not old) who lives in the mountains and eats people (but sometimes is also nice.)

Ive been DMing for a group for a few years now. I love them dearly and they are great players and friends, but they tend to struggle when things go bad. Whenever they get in over their heads or the dice dont go their way it seems to suck the energy out if the room, even if I had warned them that a fight was particularly difficult. They are all experienced players, but something about death saves make them completely rethink their builds and class choices. Do you have any advice on how to help my players thrive through adversity?

They’ve addressed this a few times over the years. There’s a good write-up somewhere on the subreddit. Murph has explained that it’s really challenging to schedule guests given the unpredictability of ttrgps. Best example I can think of is Brennan. Deadeye was originally only scheduled to appear in a few episodes, but stayed on much longer because of what happened to Hardwon at the Red Fen. Brennan was willing to play for more sessions than he’d initially agreed to, but Murph had explained that he feels uncomfortable asking guests for an undefined commitment like that (which is reasonable imo). I miss guests too. Hopefully with shorter campaigns there will be more opportunities for one-off cameos.
