We finally get Jake to watch anime with us! The 2 Crew reviews the first 3 episodes of DBZ Kai, while reminiscing about their first time seeing the show.

Gohan in Kai is wayyyy worse than in the full english version, the voice actor is sooo much more annoying. Voice acting in general is way worse. Also agree with Emily, the normal version (English and Japanese) is wayyy better than Kai.

So can next Christmas be a Dragon Ball Z campaign special, since Murph feels they have mined Donkey Kong for all it's worth. The 3 characters hunting for the dragon balls with Oolong or Master Roshi or someone, boefore summoning Shenron to make a wish for Christmas at the end could be fun.

Based on the title of the show I honestly went into this thinking it was about dragons playing some kind of sport. I couldn't really understand much that was said about the show but it's clearly not that which was a bit disappointing lol.

As a kid I bought the actual Dragon Ball mangas, and honestly I always preferred to Z. It was fun and witty and carefree, and Goku wasn't always fucking dead. By the way the reason Goku was originally half monkey is that the original arc of Dragon Ball was a silly remake of Journey to the West.

Hey Crew Naruto for the next one ain't a bad idea but since you all talked about DB originating a lot of these tropes do you think the next one could be a recent show to show Jake how far action anime has come? Demon Slayer and Attack on Titan do this great and are award winning beginner anime.

100% Goku killed Grandpa Gohan. It was during his first transformation into the mega monkey and he crushed his grandpa. Goku is unaware it was himself and when he sees Vegeta in the later episodes turn into the monkey, his anger is greater as he now believes it was Vegeta that killed his dad! this is based off memory for 20ish years ago...

Best 2 current animes y'all could watch for mix bag are Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen. Jake seems like he would like Bleach and Yu Yu Hakusho, maybe Inuyasha. Then swing back and hit up Naruto and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood.

Just listening now also, as far as dubs v subs, I remember being in highschool watching an evangelion movie subs while doing acid and it was a wild experience. Dubs would have been a buzz kill to listen to 5 Gohan's cry. Such a wild show thematically. Totes agree that being to read with the foreign emotes behind it makes it so much better
