ok so i know i'm like a couple of years late on this but if someone ever options priory of the orange tree to be a miniseries or a movie, i would be so delighted if emily was involved in that production (if she wanted to be) oh my god. i just think emily's genius mind would help bring that gorgeous book to an audiovisual medium in as true a form as physically possible and we would all be so much better off for it. while i'm here, thank y'all so much for being such an incredible part of my day every day 💕 y'all have brought so so so much joy to my life and i'm really grateful for this awesome podcast!!!

Kelsey McNeil

I’m so late to this but I love that they are defending Jupiter Ascending I looooove that movie

Matt Davis

Let's be clear: everyone understood the way Murph was describing the vampire spawn's clothes EXCEPT Emily. :D

Mike Y

Who else listening in 2024 and disappointed they still haven't done the Waterworld Mixed Bag

CommodoreBlue

We never did get the Water World mixed bag

Bryttany A

Just gotta say, I read Priory of the Orange Tree and Emily is RIGHT it is perfect! I hope she read the sequel-that’s a prequel- Day of Fallen Night

The Wizard Sleepy

I love that Jake likes Waterwold! it's one of my favorite movies of all time

Compound27

"If you try hard enough, a conversation can be a word search." what an Emily thing to say <3

🐧lost penguin familiar

Murph mentioned Demetri Martin at the top... I feel like im the only person who'd ever know this reference. Even comedians don't mention him but he's so funny!

Attention span of a Kobold

I know I'm years late to this but as a DM with ADHD who very much "plans" sessions in the 10 minutes before start, this whole discussion about not over planning really helps ease my DM-guilt 😅

Max Herzog

In retrospect, the new DND movie was pretty fun. It was fast paced and funny. It was a good movie

wilson menary

I hope there is less cumming in this short rest

Billie Ash

Can't believe I have to watch frozen 2 as part of the naddpod canon

Supsupcool

Fan theory: what if Henry was once a blade and made a promise with another group of blades to defend Sarahneses but he ran when people came braking the promise, And when Henry finally brakes his curse he loses shank and becomes an oath breaker paladin. (None of this will happen)

Owen Bardsley

New podcast idea: Emily talking about her garden and plants.

Alga Wyspe

There was at one point a few years ago a totally insane waterworld live show with all the fire stunts.

Lisquander

Oh god how much I’ve craved this new Caldwell send off 😭😭😭

Taylor Schult

Everyone needs to watch the Star Wars Holiday Special.

jackalope503

If "Vampire Beach Boy" isn't the name of Murph and Caldwall's musical project, I'm not buying their album

evanescent

Really glad to hear Emily still talking about The Priory of the Orange Tree because it is a very good book! It's a pretty long read, so it'd be a hard sell to people who are not into fantasy, but it's worth it.

David Mares

Pretty sure Water World is a stunt show and not a ride... Incredible stunt show none the less

Alex Hansen

Definitely agree with Emily about Jupiter Ascending and Valerian. They're just so fun.

Anton

Take us out to Dice land

Rhiannon Lang

got so happy when emily mentioned she was growing zinnia’s since one of the pcs in my home brew campaign is named zinnia!

Jacob Bryan

Emily and Caldwell need to check out the Mortal Engines books. It's got the three-four movies of world-building they're looking for. Those books hold up.

Ursa

As someone who has had bangs for several years, any time I hear straight bangs slander, I'm legally required to throw hands. Also, Emily talking about The Priory at the Orange Tree made me buy it! I ordered it a few weeks ago and I'm excited to start reading it! The hardcover copy is *very chonky*.

jacob

I feel like no one is pointing out the flaws in the outlook of the pc's yes can make aldermen as great as you want but you will always face the reaper and every person that dies suffered for the decision of pertecting a single person unless there something more to this then I think the pc's are the bad guys

D'ran Dana

Omg the whole discussion of how you think when tying storyline to character choices was a breakthrough for me. New DM struggling with the flow of what to prep in my homebrew campaign, and this was so helpful!!! A Boeing 747 full of roses on your grave, daddy DM.

ZZYZZXX

So is Caldwells real first name not Caldwell? Or am I missing something

Calum

This podcast was made for me. I’m obsessed with Waterworld (and the insane story of how it was made) and the mortal engines is the best book series ever. It’s the reason I got into art!

Madeleine D

I for one am willing to up my Patreon donation so you guys can bribe a GP to let you skip the line for a COVID vaccine to get into Waterworld.

Katy Tacik

Shout out to all my fellow curly haired folks with tiny straighteners specifically for their bangs.

Marisa

jupiter ascending is FUN

Hamish

Welcome back Caldwell ❤️

Dom & Holly

We really need a mixed bag where we get a behind the DM scenes with Murph. I would really love to see him explain his process or similarly how he prepares for each session. Even if he reviewed an old session from Bahumia and ran with that; I wouldn’t hesitate to pay money for it.

Pat Lusk

Welcome back, Caldwell. Thanks for putting the “bread pudding of despair” out into the world.

Sidereal

To Caldwell: I also Stan mortal engines! (But Jupiter Ascending was trash)

FloatingSpaceWhale

i haven’t even started the episode but that spoiler warning excites me to no end

Andy Branton

Oh my god Priory of the Orange tree is so so good and could be like 8 seasons easy w no extra material. Like. I would watch it so hard

K. Zachary Neese

I'm dying to know... Hank Hogfish = Forty Six & 2?!?!

Cj Ferrigno

We just started our grow lamp garden!

psi_Sig

According to my great grandmother you either need to burn or flush your hair. If you dont a bird will use it for a nest and will give you headaches

Professor Pratt

The hope for Waterworld was because Costner was coming off Dances with Wolves. High expectations.

Frankenjam

As someone not from the states. Can someone tell me what the hell "bangs" are? I hear people say it on all different types of media but I swear it's always a different thing. Is it a straight fringe? Is it a parting of some kind? Is it when hair goes down either side of your face like an anime character?

Michael Harding

So I’m in the midst of relistening to the podcast while also keeping up with current episodes, and I wanted you all to know that after listening to this short rest the next old episode opened with an ad for progressive boat insurance, and I think the Third Mates might want to look into insuring their boat before the trek!

Tyler Foster

I'm in a Zoom campaign right now and we've found it difficult to do music the old fashion way. Is there a software or something that can help?? We loved music when we played in person so I was a little blindsided when they said that music being easier is a plus for playing remote lol

Jared Graham

Does the daughter of the trickster know who she is? Or does she remember her past lives?

Johne Johnson

5 years ago I was working at a subway in a really busy truck stop when suddenly a crowd of older men came in and started ordering sandwiches. The fourth man in starts ordering a plain meatball sub on Italian herbs and cheese. I look up, and it's Kevin fucking Costner. My whole subway team (all chicks) try to play it super cool... it's kind of working, one girl asked for a picture. I move to the cash register, take a 10 from Kevin fucking Costner and he tells me to put the change in the tip jar. I get some courage and say, "I... loved Waterworld." That all. He smiles, says thank you and goes and sits in the lobby. A truly wonderful experience.

Emma

YES Priory of the Orange Tree TV show! I’m so excited that Samantha Shannon just finished the prequel book so hopefully it’ll be coming out some time next year. And she’s talked about a possible Sabran and Ead spin off which is everything I could ever want.

Katie

Jupiter Ascending and Priory of the Orange tree are both amazing I reject the idea that Emily has bad taste.

Elizabeth Lees

I’m actually looking forward to the new D&D movie now that I know the writers/directors are comedy guys. It also makes a bit more sense with the cast. If Hugh Grant’s villain is anything like his role from The Gentlemen, I’ll be happy.

Logan

Fun witch fact: placing hair in a coffin is fully a curse that appears in American folklore. Hair (or other bodily concerns) are placed in coffins and then buried under dirt roads that are commonly tread upon, causing one of two effects. 1) each time a horse or person rides over it causes that owner of the hair pain/discomfort/etc. 2) prevents the person from actually traveling down those roads. This is found in “the silver bullet” by Hubert Davis.

Laura Neuwirth

Love that the crew is back together. The only shenanigans are back, complete with Frozen Spoilers and all of the best things!! Welcome back Caldwell!!!! (I also hope Sweet Lou is back to visit soon!!)

Anne

I loved Jupiter ascending-so fun. And now I’m waiting to get a copy of priory of the orange tree from the library!

Jen M

Just bought The Priory of the Orange Tree. I’ll trust your judgement Emily, since I really liked Children of Blood and Bone ☺️

zach orion miller

Listening to Em talk about her plants while I take care of mine; took me a good year of plant homicide before results started being what I wanted. You got this Em, patience is the most important part of growing plant friends.

Salti

Ayyyy, Universal Studios props person here. Waterworld is one of our highest rated attractions at the park, and honestly it rips pretty hard! The stunt show is a lot of fun and I’ve really enjoyed getting to work on its refurbishment over the years. If the Band of Boobs ever wanna go (when it’s safe to do so, of course) hit me up and I can get you in! 🔥🚤🔥

Sabrina Bernaby

Who's gonna tell them that Waterworld isn't a ride?

Thomas Heniff

Murph replying "everything 🙄" when Jake said "yes Emily tell me whats pissing you off" about the flowers is total city pigeon energy

Stephanie F

Hang on, my favorite part about this was Murph saying "I watch movies, I watch documentaries". SAME BUD.

Liam Carrion

I've heard Buffalo mentioned more in these short rests than I have anywhere else on the internet before and it always trips me out hearing people mention the city I live in.

Bunnay Ch33ks

JUPITER ASCENDING IS AMAZING YES

Omar Mtz

I stand for Valerian and the city of a thousand planets!!!!

Dr. Bearkele

In the epi, when Caldwell did his intro, I had just taken a huge mouthful of salad, only to immediately spit-take it all over my plate xD (ed: also got into growing plants in the last year and it has been a wild ride)

Mary H.

I also loved watching Jupiter Ascending, Em! It was a huge visual rollercoaster ride with Channing Tatum in wings 😅

Jack Farley

Crazy to hear the water world origin story. I hope you guys still watch it for a mixed bag! Also Caldwell’s name is Hugh? The more you know lol

Squishy, Pawpaw's Brushtail Possum lover

Emily's fringe is my hair goals and now I find out she cuts them herself 😍 And a tiny straightener, that's perfect! I just brush mine into the correct position position when it's wet and hope for the best.

Squishy, Pawpaw's Brushtail Possum lover

I felt like mortal engines was such a good world, but was executed poorly. I just found it so boring. But I felt like the world had a lot of promise. Maybe the book is better.
