The 2 Crew watches and reviews the first episode of Naruto! Is it powerful enough to be the first 8 Bit Book Club review with all J's across the board!?

That most ominous title

writeathome

Listen, I know I’m catching up and late to this but the red duster bit and Emily roasting Caldwell was so funny, I am in stitches!! The way it cracked all of you up is just so priceless lol

Hunter Biberos

Naruto is my favorite show of all time

K

Hell yeah!

Diana

Can we please see some jnco pics?

Curtis Legault

Naruto definitely does say Dattebayo 😂 at the end of like.. every sentence

Jack

Wait, kakashi has his nose covered 😳

Canid

Iruka sensei holding it down while lord 3rd and Kakashi sensei be fucking up.

Damodar

Since 8BitBookClub is pseudo back will you watch more Donkey Kong country? You didn’t even get to the Leo Luster episodes.

Dallon Taylor

ive never seen a single episode of naruto, i just very much needed jakes review 🤣

Abe C

Not even 10 minutes in and already I have to say 1) Please release a NADDPOD Fannypack (The Balnorpack????) 2) should definitely do One Punch Man (subtitle version) next. Beautiful DBZ animation while still being self aware of how silly the world is.

Anna Green

Next up: Jake watches the first episode of Full Metal Alchemist:Brotherhood. Please! He’d love it!

Twisty Carpetwords

Hearing the old 8-bit book club theme song instantly took me back to a happy time and place.

Anonymous

Please for the love of Bahamut watch HunterXHunter

Birdie

My fave people reviewing my absolute favorite thing ever, I'm so terrified 🤣😅

Josiah Muskrat

I know it’s been addressed; and Murph says it’s a show for children, but I really think you guys should do an Avatar: The Last Airbender mixed bag. Maybe pick two episodes from S2 or 3, since Murph didn’t like the pilot. ❤️❤️❤️

Caldwell mentioned that he loves a good shonen show, and I'm kind of wondering what other ones he's a fan of. I think Naruto is the only one the gang mentions with any regularity (and may the only one Caldwell, Emily and Murph have all seen some of), but I'd wonder about his opinion on One Piece, Bleach, My Hero Academia, Rurouni Kenshin, InuYashu etc. too. I'd assume Caldwell is the only one with extensive exposure to them at least, going off what they've said.

Kris Barnes

Thank you Caldwell for the Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer shoutout

Jacob Tingle

OMG please please have Jake watch the first episode of Trigun. Then the second to the last episode.

Keith Kelly

Fun fact: the same person at VIZ does localization of the dub & subs. She also works on Boruto and Hunter x Hunter. She's super rad. Unless you're watching on Crunchyroll. They do their own subs.

Micah

I used to work with some some people that were super into Anime. They talked me into trying Naruto. They didn't say why but they strongly advised me to watch the Sub. Normally, I would agree, I prefer Subs to Dubs on MOST Anime. But, it's been hard for me to ONLY focus on shows so I usually play a video game when I watch things. Can't read the screen when you're looking at a different screen. So DUB it was. I came to work the next day and said I couldn't do it. They laughed and two of them looked at me and said "Believe it!" That was about 5 years ago and I haven't tried it again. BUT TRIGUN!!!!! Watch that shit... That is my 2nd favorite Anime. It's so good.

Keith Kelly

Also: If you ever watch JoJo's, start with the S2 dub. S2 is the first VIZ worked on. It and all subsequent seasons are completely different from S1.

Cliff

When Emily mentioned the Swarm Keeper subclass being like Shino, did anyone else want to see a Naruto-esque/ Ninja themed Dnd campaign where they all do a monk multiclass? Like doing ninja scrolls instead of spell books, having that structure of a four man squad going on missions, reflavoring spells for jutsu like Benign Transposition or even swapping places via the Manifest Echo feature as the substitution jutsu. It would really fun to see what kind of multiclass combinations they could come up with.

FusRohNahSon

Did someone say Metal City Sonic?

Anonymous

The whole episode im just thinking, man Jake would love JuJutsu Kaisen and at the end I had a breath of relief when Caldwell confirmed they knew about it like, phew, they know.

Dave Johnson

I'm a basic binch, give me my English dub

Kyle Coad

loved this ep and am loving these mixed bags. everything y'all do delights me and i thank you for it. as a rec (caldwell back me up), i Know emily and murph and jake will love full metal alchemist: brotherhood. 55 ish eps and it is freakin world class guys. have a nice day! i'm enjoying a yuzu lager and brushing my cat.. happy sunday everyone may the sun shine with you

Kyle Coad

ps it has a top teir english dub, though the OG japanese also rules

Adam Haikal

Please watch Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I can just tell Brian and Emily would love it, Jake would also probably (I'm pretty sure Caldwell has already seen it).

Harry B

You should watch Your Name for a complete change of anime pace.

Vayne

You know they're off the rails when Emily has to reign them in lol

chophouse

1. Why am I crying listening to a comedy podcasts talk about the first episode of Naruto. 2. When I was a wee lad I had one pair of jncos with a blue flaming snake on the left buttcheek and they were glorious.

Garga Lenoir

1. I think the Driving License episode is how you should do a filler. Since there are no real stakes anyway you might as well have a comedic episode, and it harkens back to the era when Dragon Ball was comedy first and action second (which i much preferred). 2. Wait you guys even get Emily haters on the 10$ tier?? How? Where? 3. I LOVE the 8bbc episodes but do you think that you could do short rests from the pre patreon episodes again? I love me some heavy nostalgia from not even that long ago.

bj cox

I loved this episode, I think you guys should do a dnd one shot in the naruto universe!

Rob T

I totally looked up a list of all Naruto episodes that separate then out from filler and main show. Worth it

Cole

When can we get Caldwell’s anime/manga podcast cause I would be here for that

Taylor Schult

Star Wars wipes have aged sooooo poorly

GREYFOX!!!!!

Vash. Is only 5:11 apparently. Fun fact The multi-shadow clone jutsu is forbidden because, if performed incorrectly, can kill the user. One would perform this technique incorrectly by unevenly splitting the users chakra amongst the clones or using too much chakra. Naruto only was able to use this jutsu because immense chakra reserves.

Anonymous

More anime please! I was thinking of other ones you guys should check out and decided to rewatch a bit of fullmetal alchemist brotherhood and I think it would be a fun one for the podcast.

Anonymous

Murph forgot WHY the beetle plan failed. Naruto literally farted on it

Graham Starr

I’d never seen naruto before and watched the first episode to prep to this mixed bag and wtf it’s so good! Watched 5 episodes after the mixed bag ended. Just gotta watch it!

Bat-Fran

Waw no mentions yet but: Believe it was the amazing filler word they came up with because in the Japanese he says "dattebayo" which is more if a verbal punctuation than anything else, but a very informal and usually childish way.... Why they felt this warrented a catchphrase is beyond me but thankfully when Naruto grows us, so does his speech patterns. Love that you guys did this. I can see Naruto has influenced a lot if Murph's writing (not a bad thing) and it's great to hear Jake's thoughts! Also... Of caus Caldwell knows uzumaki... Y'all need to read uzumaki 😂

Bat-Fran

Oh, also there's a full on naturo ttrpg with all the mechanics worked out...... Hint hint

Flonc

I really do hope Jake keeps going. I'd love to hear his take on best parts, like Zabuza fight, Rock Lee fight during chunnin exams (or the exam in its entirety honestly), Sasuke arc etc.

Anonymous

Please do JoJo’s bizarre adventure next. I would love to hear Jake and Caldwell talk about some buff ass dudes.

Hordopho

I would love for them to watch Food Wars and all that horny energy involved.

Anonymous
>>64949113

a player-leaning justice should appreciate that JoJo works entirely on rule of cool

Kara

I wish I could find the original but I think it was taken down, but there is a video of Miyazaki shitting on his son’s first movie. This is all I could find https://youtu.be/cFq773ntzTQ

Victoria Shotts

In the short rest for The Killing Blow, Caldwell mentions this as a mixed bag idea and somehow Jake talks his way out of it by telling Emily he hates Harry Potter. Now literal years later, Jake is officially "ruined"🤣😂

Victoria Shotts
>>64933333

😯 whoa, thanks for sharing Lou lololol seriously I was curious tho why it was forbidden

Anonymous

You want a beautiful anime, watch The Seven Deadly Sins on Netflix.

Anonymous

I might start watching naurito

Humble Goblin

I want them to show jake the rock lee fight so bad

H-Train
>>64995145

didn’t the animation for sds get, like, famously bad after a while? they call it seven deadly frames for a reason

H-Train

if you want a challenge, for the next mixed bag, watch all 1000 episodes of one piece

DMCDawg

Man mixed bags like this are my favorite. I miss 8 Bit Book Club so much! This one was amazing! Thanks crew!

Anonymous

Caldwell dissing on Bleach is fighting words!

Anonymous

I hope they open the next mixed bag with Caldwell’s “what’s in your mixed bag?” question again! Everyone’s different interpretation of the question was so fun, from Murph’s recent fanny pack to Emily’s nostalgic party favours bag. Imagine as they discuss bags, and pair of thieves underwear, and increasingly tangential topics as a chaotic appetiser before the main meal can commence

Anonymous

As someone who has recently become insanely obsessed with Naruto this year (binged it all) I would pay so much money for them to just keep watching episodes and talking about it later haha

clevername

I want a podcast that's just Jake and Caldwell with them watching different anime and giving their reviews.

Wit & Whimsy

Mixed Bag Recommendation: RWBY. I’d love y’all’s takes on it

Anonymous

Started watching Naruto again, thanks two crew. Also got legitimately emotional at the first episode - shed a tear towards the end when Iruka was talking to Naruto with the shuriken in his back

Anonymous

Lol I’m ready for jakes next character to be based on someone from naruto 🤣

Jessica Olsen

my husband and i JUST finished shippuden

Anonymous

Can’t wait for Jake to watch Cowboy Bebop and want to be everything that Spike is.

Sam Killjoy

When Murph said: “I have nipples, Naruto, can you milk me” ….. I lost it. I have not laughed that hard in a very long time

Sean Rooney
>>64851986

So much anime talk and never any credit to FMA. I'd love their discussion on it

Sean Rooney

Where is the best place to watch Naruto? I think my Funimation subscription is still going. Which reminds me I need to finish AoT

Saru

"how do you know if an episode is filler" back in my day when you could still watch anime in three parts on Youtube someone in the comment section would have told you how many episodes you had to skip for to get back to the main plot. this mixed bag was nostalgic af

preston packer
>>65119194

Jesus that takes me back. Some times certain episodes weren't on yt so I had to jump over to vimeo for certain eps. And pre load tabs of upcoming eps so when the internet went out at midnight (parental control) I had a few episodes loaded and ready to go for late night binging. Thank you for that memory

Dalton Elliott

This made me finally want to start Naruto after years of growing up confused, watching out of context episodes on Toonami. Im over 13 episodes in now and fully hooked. I would gush with Emily about Kakashi Sensai all day lmao

Samuel Barton

Yalls should just dive into HunterXHunter

Darth_Xionn

Caldwell talking shit about Bleach? It's so good though!

Morose Psych

I would watch naruto each week as it got released, and when the main story got put on hold for fillers it hurt my very soul

Anonymous

I really want them to watch the dubbed version of Ghost Stories

Emily

According to Google: in anime, nosebleed mostly happens to a character being sexually aroused. It is an exaggeration of having high blood pressure when a real person is sexually aroused.

Jesymka

For our first in person season after Covid, one of my groups did loot bags and we all contributed something lol it was mostly retro candy

Sarah

Okay, But what was Murph going to bet that he was right about? We moved on before he could make his statement.

AJ

This is the first time in all naddpod and 8bbc that I’ve had to look up what the tangent was on because I had no idea what jnco jeans were and can’t believe they were popular 😂😂😂

Jennifer

this made me start watching naruto and now i can’t stop help 😭

Nikolaus Cox

The first time I ever hosted a party at my parent's place when they were out of town, a party that involved alcohol no less, I made sure to prepare goody bags for all my guests: I wanted the experience to feel curated and special. It was pirate-themed, and I bought everyone pirate figurines and pirate-themed treats and, lemme tell yah, it went down very well. From then on I just had friends over and we got drunk and vomited, but that first party, with the goody bags and the pirate toys? Huge hit. I gottah bring it back!

Michael Singer

I started watching Naruto because of y’all… believe it!

Meuce

I wore the red duster Caldwell, and you were wise to recognize ahead that it would never work. Sadly I never learn, so I eventually got the Naruto vest and surprise surprise, great way to get some extra pockets on a hot day.

Meapyboy1234567

XD them saying shi poo den for shippuden and na ruto for naruto just was really funny for me
