When reading the Inheritance Cycle (the Eragon series) for the first time, I didn't know I skipped a whole book... I read Eragon, apparently skipped Eldest and went straight to Brisingr. There was some time between books but it still took me a few chapters to figure it out lol. Highly recommend the series though!

Alethea Hansen

I accidentally watched the last episode of a tv show first, because that’s what prime apparently auto plays. I was so confused but assumed that’s just how the show was until a friend told me otherwise.

James Grimes

20:10 Jake nearly took psychic damage trying to read a book

Garrett Null

"Another Monster At the End of This Book" by Sesame Street would pass the Jake Hurwitz book challenge 😊.

Compound27

The ONLY reason I thought it might have been Moxora was Caldwells nat 20 on the crown. Otherwise I thought she was going to attack and try to sway Irina while she was attuning to the crown and they had to fight her off.

Tyler Whorff

Billie sucked off Zirk through the dimensional bag 🫦!!!

Kristen with-a-K

Reminds me when the Intrepid Heroes went in on Brennan for his shenanigans. Anytime you get such a visceral response, you know you've done good.

Nour

The book without an E is Georges Perec's 1969 book La Disparition (literally translates to The Disappearance)! It's like 300 pages long and it's part of the whole Oulipo group, which was a bunch of mid 20th century authors trying out a bunch of fun stuff with language and writing. I've never read it but the letter E not being in it is part of the plot.

Thomas Caamano

In English it's called A Void, and the plot summary for it on Wikipedia also does not include any E's

S Koster

Murph is truly evil

Stephanie F

Hey Caldwell, when are you going to the PO Box again? I sent y'all something really special and I'm worried it didn't arrive. Thanks!!

K.C. Thompson

Jake reading dune and skipping 300 pages and then going back is like Paul having visions and then snapping back to the present before he fully becomes kwisatz haderach.

Andrew Gilson

Em, your song was fabulous. I reluctantly side with Murph, too 😔

Matt A

Murph absolutely *reveling* in singing alone is one of my new favorite NADDPoD moments

Joseph Tongate

Gol darn it, gimme Eldermourne pt 2 ya mollyhoppers

Leah S.

Is there a way to pay to watch the live shows virtually?

Leah S.

Also, I loved the song Emily did, it was so awesome. I love how she makes a song for the main campaigns.

THEJordonBrown

The Ill Luck Henry song by Emily is so gorgeous. Lordy, she is so wildly talented.

AmberDextrous!

After we left Bahumia, I had questioned whether I would be able to love another adventuring party like I loved the Boobs and now I realize that was a fucking idiotic thought, because y'all are so so so good at what you do, like of COURSE I would fall in love again and I have truly not been disappointed. And now I'm feeling that bittersweet pluck on my emotions because I'm so excited to see how their stories wrap up but I'm also so reluctant to let them go. But I'm always looking forward to what y'all do next because I always know I'm gonna love it.

Ben P

I want to cover the ill luck Henry song so badly! Better get started transcribing.

Dana A

i could listen to emily talk about music/behind the scenes for hours!! the character themes are EVERYTHING to me!!

Freen

I was introduced to the show through the dragonpussy bit. After half a year from hearing that I got into the show and now I've listened every episode twice, favourites several times. Loved every momet of it.

H-Train

I WAS SO WAITING FOR A HOUSE OF LEAVES REFERENCE DURING THAT “read the beginning, then the end, then the middle bit” LMAOOO

Isaac wainwright

This episode is a great example of why Murph is DMgoals

BenMightSmite

Guys don’t listen to any of this on cause

evanescent

Incredibly amusing to hear Jake say now he's picturing Henry closer to his 50s when back in session 0 he said he's 35 lmao (granted, that was before it was revealed how old Hank Jr. is and how long Henry's been away, but still)

Wandering Giant

That Ill luck henry song, phew! Can you imagine if he died and they played that song? I'd be bawling

Zach Z

My old man might have you beat. He read the Dune trilogy out of order.

Moonlit Ghost

Theres a book called Hopscotch where theres something like 6 different ways to read it

adrian aguilar

Anyone know when the tix for the Vancouver live show are available? 😊

Dave 3D Art

I hope Yugo shows up in the final episode.

Hansel Herschend

We need Ill luck Henry as a single or something PLEASE I BEG!

Freddie Meraw

Ok but why isn’t Ill Luck Henry on apple music yet 😒

Jen M

There is going to be a campaign 3 right??? 🥺

Brendan R Colquitt

I heard that song, had to go back and relisten to the song after campaign 1 then when I came back up, the episode was paused right after the latest song.... so I listened to it again

Charles

Jake’s Dune story reminds me of the time I was trying to catch up on all the Game of Thrones books before the show came out. I bought all the paperbacks that were out at the time at a secondhand bookstore. When I got to the 3rd book “A Storm of Swords” I was so confused why I kept reading about this “Red Wedding” and everyone who got killed but the event was never actually in the previous book. Turns out it was a UK version where they split it in two parts, and I only bought and started reading the second half.

Mae B

I will say I often will if I'm getting bored with a book jump and read the last 100 pages so even if I don't want to finish the book because I don't like it I can still know how the story ends. And if it ends in an interesting enough way I will go back and read the whole thing.

Thomas Friedlander

I'm so happy to have heard House of Leaves referenced too!

AshDronaut

I AM I AM THE YOUTH OF THE NATION

Michael Lovell

There's a book that loses letters throughout. It's written as a journal, i believe, of a girl on an island off the east coast. And there's a statue with that sentence that has every letter in it and as the letters fall off, it becomes illegal to use the letters that have fallen until there's like less than 10 letters left. Its really interesting. Can't remember the author off the top of my head but the title is Ella Minnow Pea

FiendishNoodles

Slaughterhouse-five would be not -terrible to read that way, since billy gets un-stuck in time and the end is in the middle anyway.

Nathan Kenney

Same! I was also thinking about that author's other book "Only Revolutions" which is almost explicitly a palindrome.

Jack Parsons

Holy fuck Murph brilliant to put those fuck yous in this, instead of the end of last episode was great, i was haunted with Emily's beautiful ill luck Henry at the end, so rolling into this was perfect. Thank you all!

ClockworkNinja24

Jake's Dune story reminded me of when I read an entire manga backwards as a kid. there was even a warning about the right-to-left but I skipped it, I guess

Bobby Capella

Do a 8bbc style Metal City Mayhem Hurwitz challenge please!

Moon Moon

I need you guys to come STL

Jessica Cooper

Jake reads books like vonnegut wrote slaughterhouse 5

Nicole Jordan

Not only did I think the Phillip + Zirk hold me back moment was hilarious I also thought it was such a good moment for Zirk’s character because Prophet Cain has had (arguably) the most effect on Zirk personally out of the Choo Choo Crew he killed Spritel and his mentor/substitute parental figure with him leaving his mother so that was honestly very powerful to me! Amazing as always I can’t believe we’re so close to the finale!

SoupLightning

Gadsby by Earnest Vincent Wright is the novel that contains no e's

Ian Reilly

I realized the dragon genitals parallel with Hank flying right before they said it 😂

Ruben Cabrera

Jake Book challenge easy mode The Bible Read Genesis skip to Revelations, call it a day

Garga Lenoir

Surprise cameo from Caldeum The Saucy Little Goblin at 37:46!

Noah Jay

I unintentionally did the Jake Hurwitz Challenge with an audiobook. It was Chuck Palahniuk's "Choke" and this was back in like 2007, when it was easiest to just get audiobooks off Limewire. Unfortunately the tracks were not labeled correctly... Someone decided to just number them randomly I guess. The first one was correct enough that it didn't raise a red flag and I was familiar enough with Palahniuk's work that the disjointed narrative didn't seem strange. I got at least 3/4 through before realizing that something was revealed out of order and just ended up finishing the book that way. One day I'll reread it the right way 😅

Noah Jay

I wish. It seems like they have enough trouble getting the venues to record their audio that streaming would be very difficult. Buying VOD access would be great though!

Katrine

The author is Mark Dunn! Was gonna comment this book myself

Michael Lovell

Yeah, thats the guy! I'm glad someone else thought of it too. Its too cool of a book for how few people seem to know about it

JME

I am 100% ready to be the idiot cheering for a mini concert in Minneapolis. Finally got my tickets yesterday!

Naddpod Binch

I did similar with a Gaiman novel audiobook (Neverwhere maybe?), they'd split the book into 2 parts, but the two parts didn't link up correctly in numbering so I accidentially listened to Part 1 track 1, Part 2 track 1, Part 1 track 2, Part 2 track 2... for the whole book. I assumed the story just cut back and forth in time, and really enjoyed it! Didn't realise there was a problem until the very end when there was a clear last chapter and then just a random chapter after...

Daniel Martinez

Similarly to Jake’s “Dune” story, I accidentally skipped “The Girl With the Silver Hair” & went straight to listening to the finale on my drive home for Thanksgiving. I was wondering why the finale felt so rushed & confusing, but I didn’t realize until I finished the episode and looked at my Spotify🤦🏼‍♀️

Nick

Spat my drink out with Jake’s Dune story 😂

Joelle H

CATCH 22 would be a good book for the Jake challenge... it would still make complete sense

Lily Everett-Curwick

Jake, I did the same thing when reading the book Abarat at like 14 years old. I was massively confused while reading the book anyway, so tried to convince myself it was just the confusing book while reading the last third after the first third lmao.

Lily Everett-Curwick

I had the same thoughts! It was during this episode that I went “these people are so freaking talented, I will inevitably fall in love with their characters every time”. Murph playing Irena was simply DIVINE. Fia & Irena’s scene will be forever in my heart. Absolute perfection.
