You roll to hit the target, but then the target and all other creatures within five feet of it max a dex save for additional damage. It's really nice to be have the potential to hit your target twice!

I saw it as more of a gut decision after hearing about how one of them was mortally wounded. I think it was all due to Murph’s storytelling ability that made everyone feel a ton of empathy for them, but I could see how you think differently.

Plus Emily really enjoys getting deep into the mindset if her characters, even if it means s making asun-optimal game decision(she even admits it in this case). The sibling angle just struck an emotional chord with her character, who then made an emotional choice. I thought it was nice

When Callie did lay hands, I think 5 points is spent removing poison and the rest is used to heal so Sol would have gotten healed for 4 points.
