Using a d30 as a player is sich an agregious sin. Adding another 10 numbers to roll above 20 is so powerful

Claire

I played a child in a party of adults once - she was a halfling ancestral guardians barbarian/ psi knife rogue and she was a menace who threw temper tantrums and committed crimes. My artwork was Suze from Phineas and Ferb

Kate Oldham

Thank you for doing this 😭

Mitch (Sigg43)

What happened to the video version though?

Evan V

Love you guys!!

Jack

Thank you! Tweaking audio levels is huge!

Mitch (Sigg43)

Thanks Michelle, I must be blind. I liked the video version and thought they'd got rid of it. Scrolled right past it. Hoping we get an 8 bit book club in that format!

Neji

Shit, I knew this would happen now I gotta start over, oh well not like I wasn't gonna listen to this 10x anyway

華偉 曾

thank you sooooo much

Greg Lohman (tsarducci)

Bead of force: wouldn't the falling damage count as an effect from outside the sphere?

Todd

Bead of force: volume is 4188 ft^3 so density is 0.000023 lb/ft^3. Which is significantly lower than density of air. The bead would actually float upwards lol

There are therapy groups that do DnD for therapy. The typical model is run a session for a hour then process it after. Some also will run a session one day and return a few days later to process it. I went to a break out session at a conference that talked about this about 5 years ago and I want to run a therapy group using this model. Studies have shown it to be effective for social concerns such as social anxiety as well as those on the spectrum from what I remember. The one group I know near me that uses this model for their therapy group also loosely requires you to play a character that is opposite of your presenting concern. For example if you are withdrawn and shy due to anxiety maybe you play a bard who is outspoken. all that being said I loved Emily (I think it was her) saying DnD is therapeutic but it is not therapy.

Andrew

Emily is right about smaller objects not taking as much damage when falling. Mice can fall hundreds of feet and be totally fine when they hit the ground. Google it.

Polina Milashevskaya

It was Caldwell and then she brought it up again. Not that it matters though. It’s a beautiful thought!! I agree. And thanks for sharing about the dnd therapy. I didn’t know it’s a thing but it makes absolute sense!

Dana A

when the "jake cooks dinner for you and murph" punishment came up and jake mentioned brownies i HAD to snort because i'm listening through the 8bbc catalog and just listened to the browniegate episodes (possibly one of my favourite emily hot takes to this day) 😂😂

Jacob Coates

Terminal velocity depends on wind resistance and mass. Weight is determined by mass and acceleration due to gravity so if the weight is reduced one of those two have to be reduced. An object with large surface area and low mass would have a lower terminal velocity than one with more mass. So if the mass or force of gravity on the ball is reduced the terminal velocity will be lower and they’d take muuuuuch less damage

Oreo

Can we please have a naddcon <3

Greg Lohman (tsarducci)

Well it weighs 1 lb, which isn't its mass measurement its the measured weight. So I think the 1lb already takes into account the buoyancy of the atmosphere?

Grant Smith

I do just want to add a note the Bubble Wizard case: Emily and Jake were actually right about the bubble potentially falling slower due to it being so light. Murph is making a very common mistake when it comes to understanding Newton’s famous experiment of dropping a light and heavy object and then falling at the same speed. That experiment demonstrated that ACCELERATION due gravity is equal between objects regardless of their mass. However, neither object in that experiment was dropped from a height tall enough for them to reach terminal velocity, which is the point where an object no longer accelerates due to gravity b/c the force of air resistance has equalized with the force of gravity. Essentially, the less dense an object is, the lower it’s terminal velocity, think of a feather or a beach ball. A 1lb orb that big would probably quickly reach terminal velocity and wouldn’t actually get that fast

Glenn D AKA Mcdoogins

Do the extra cases usually come out at the same time as the main one?

Kelsey K

To add on to the heated bead of force discussion— imagine a 20ft diameter beach ball weighing a mere 1lb falling from a great height. If anything, I think the wizard would’ve been in danger of being blown away by a slight breeze!! They might have even landed on someone shitting in a suit of armor in the far distance

Kelsey K

I’m not sure if they’re supposed to, but in my experience they’re usually the day after

Damian Cadena

Soldiers shit themselves all the time .

Todd

I believe the conversion from lb_f to lb_m is a factor of 32 which would still make it lighter than air

Samantha Walton

But didn’t it say something about wind can pass through it?

Kelsey K

Ah yeah “breathable air can pass through it.” Personally I would interpret that as “you can’t suffocate someone inside the sphere” but I can see wind being able to pass through it too. My main thought is that with that size and weight it wouldn’t fall fast enough to cause damage, or at the very least it would take a few rounds to hit the ground. Like if you’re bouncing a non-helium balloon around, they just kinda drift to the ground. Maybe the wizard should’ve landed gently on the ground and run away like a giant hamster ball haha

Kelsey K

I think you’re right, it would be like a forcefield

bj cox

The audio is way better this time, are we getting a campaign episode this week or no??? Just alittle confused

Where Bear

A d30 is weird but I could see it being useful for randomly determining DC for things.

Morgan

Will there be a short rest?

Carli Stewart

Is there going to be a short rest for this? I like to listen to them back to back. 🙂

Brenton Cunningham

I am humbled and honored that my question made it on to the podcast and I patiently await my punishment of one (1) awkward dinner with Murph

Nathan Wilson

The freezing tiefling role play was so funny. I had to resist really hard from laughing out loud in my office.

Javan Thomas

"Would'st thou like to roll... deliciously?" Did not get the attention it deserved.

Devynn Hanson

I NEED a Knock-off Drawfee episode where you draw Stranger Kids

Daniel Kishen

Was delighted to sit down for lunch and notice there was a new dungeon court to listen to while enjoying my meal. oh what a mistake that was.

Schmooples

everything has a terminal velocity, they're just different. a squirrel for example reaches its terminal velocity very quickly, because of their low weight in relation to their surface area and it's only like 21mph so they can basically fall from any height and live

Adam

I love how I've been subscribed to their YouTube since campaign 1, and they're not even sure if they have one 😂😂

Tristin Lewis

Good to hear because I saw a squirrel try and jump from a tree to a telephone pole once as a kid, but it fuckin' missed. Good to know he was (probably) still kicking.
