I really need motivation for my player to reach planned locations but don’t want to hold their hand and railroad. Tried giving them deck of many things so that if a bad outcome happened they’d have to go somewhere for solution but now they are all rich and leveled with extra magic items. Hey Murph! I have never DM’d before but a friend of mine gave me a Hyrule compendium book, so for fun I have been building a campaign using that as a guide. My question is, is doing this type of campaign too grandiose to undertake as my first campaign? Should I stick with classic for my first time? Or would doing something stylized in the world of Zelda be ok?

Have you ever DMed for a younger group (my nieces/nephew are all about playing nowadays with their grandparents and want to do a multi-session campaign and normally I DM), and if so, have you noticed any specific details or mechanics that should be shelved and/or focused on for an age group 8-12? PS, also I sent in a homemade laser-etched cutting board a while back and never heard if it delivered - just wanted to see if you all got it?

Hi Murph, I am running a high level campaign and the goal is to sustain epic level play despite 5e not really having good mechanics for it. The Band of Boobs was one of the best examples of high level play I've seen in a long time. I loved the things you did like giving low level class abilities from other classes to the players (Action Surge/"Selfless" Attack/Etc) as growth rewards at higher levels. Were there other things you considered giving out instead, and if so, what were things that didn't make the cut?

If a DM wants to keep an antagonist NPC alive so that they can return later, what are some ways to have the NPC escape without simply saying "they run away, you can't catch them."

my first real campaign was ended when the party got trapped in the bottom of a well with the bbeg, mage cast fire ball, and the ladder that was never described as wood until now was burnt, for the next 6 real life hours we tried and failed to escape the well until finally a grappling hook landed, never make a cut scene a horrible battle

Speaking of Emily’s dice witchcraft, I’ve wondered if you roll so poorly bc she does more moon-marinating with her dice than yours (I assume? She’s mentioned doing it more than once on shows in the past) and maybe her dice just suck up all the good rolls in the vicinity leaving yours depleted of high-rolling dice nutrients. 🤷🏻
