Thanks for providing a visual reference for the worm. I've been imagining that the serpent looks like an alaskan bull worm with a spray tan so dune is an upgrade

Katie P.

As an arachniphobe, I have the policy of "Know thy enemy"- tarantulas can throw their hair as a defense which have a fluid similar to stinging nettles. They can cause allergic reactions. Super neat but icky

Kailey Langer

The mummy ride in Orlando absolutely has neon green drawings all up in that place

Carefree Cloud

That Eva reference at 20:31 was solid 🐸

EggBilly

Please share more Sid stories on short rest Caldwell.

Jake de Medeiros

Firmly pro orca. It’s not atypical for populations of orca to develop what we perceive as hobbies and games. A population near Vancouver island Canada would kill salmon and try to balance those salmon on their heads for as long as possible, expressing joy to the orca that did it the longest. A population near Norway enjoyed smushing jellyfish onto their nose and holding it as long as possible. A population near alaska got super into playing with kelp. From the videos I’ve seen of the orca encounters with boar rudders near Gibraltar, they seem to be expressing joy and play rather than calculated strikes from below. I think this is just another population of orcas discovering a new game they like, and luckily for us it’s at the expense of rich people. Wes Larson spoke about this on tooth and claw.

Banalan

They're getting rid of the Mummy ride :( Brendan Fraser does an interview at the end and yells about getting a cup of coffee and then spooky mummy jump scare

The Pine Barrens might be in South Jersey, but that doesn’t mean we have a southern accent!! (I produce/cohost a Jersey-themed podcast. I’m ready to spread this legend.)

Kelley

Callie should take Emily the goblin to a little place called Mangia's.

Matthew the Ninja

Caldwell said something about animals with human hair being disconcerting, but I have to think he must have never heard of crested ducks. Seriously look them up they are like completely normal ducks except they have a these head feathers that look like poufy pompadours and they are absolutely charming. I swear this is a real duck: https://i.imgur.com/gl5HpRe.jpg

A mech that torments the user, Murph is getting deep in that Warhammer lore

K.C. Thompson

They lowkey made a tulpa with this one

Alvina Ophiuchus

Bangbuck is DEFINITELY gay porn, probably furry

Ryan Bontrager

Sounds like Emily needs a nap, keeping a colossal serpent calm is exhausting work!

Kacie Bingham

As the person with tarantulas, I feel very seen and also want to state that a maltese tarantula would be a terrifying, mazing mop- but a poodle spider is almost already a thing- it's a curly hair tarantula. I do want to inform you, spider barber products are really supposed to be a secret. Please don't share this info as the infrastructure to import such items are ALSO tiny so it's difficult to get these products.

Shelby

Y’all definitely got out of the tick zone getting out of the north east!! Love from a real life tick scientist who listens to NADDPOD while working with the little blood suckers on a weekly basis. 🥰

Andy Cheng

My chemical doemance

Nicole Jordan

Am I crazy or have they had the convo about the mummy holding up and the mummy ride? Probably the time Murph used scarabs Enjoy it either way

Some of the funky colouration on various beetle and insect carapace as well as butterfly wings is a result of tiny prism like crystal photonic cells that refract light to produce colour rather than the pigmentation that gives many other animals their various colours (including us!). That’s why the colours on many beetle shells are iridescent/metallic looking, don’t fade as much over time, and even change colour when they are in different liquids thanks to how light interacts with the crystal cells differently. As for why they evolved, we aren’t super sure. Some propose that the “structural” colour of photonic cells is more efficient, and they are direction-independent so great for camouflage. But in general it seems they just allow bugs to be more colourful than otherwise possible with pigment, they evolved to be as funky as physically possible!

Haley Amplo

Their tarantula talk made me think of how cool it would be to redo The Bee Movie but with lil spider cuties

Ross Minick

I am an emo (emdo) and I love Steely Dan

Ilana Galpert

I feel obligated to educate but I don't *want* to say this ... A "buck" is kind of the opposite of a cuck and if you want to know more you gotta do your own research. Tldr bangbucks is for sure a porn

J E

Y'all have literally made fun of DMs on D&D court for suggesting the players have to relentlessly perform search checks in order to not be ambushed by stuff like beanrat

Bransy330

Suggestion for what a Bud would be in the Emdoe universe. Male Fawns are called Button Bucks because of their little head knobs where antlers will grow one day

J. Marshall Smith

The deer haircut stuff is fully unhinged and i was cackling listening to this

Ciarán MacChoncarraige

On animals with human hair, you guys NEED to look up crested ducks. Ducks with afros!!

I love it when Caldwell shares dad stories. As a parent of a 1 year old I feel like it’s a sneak peek of what I can look forward to!

Summer Rose (Grantaire)

my mom lives in jersey and feeds the deer in her yard, i'll see what i can do about getting some toupées distributed

Chazaqiel

Murph loves scarabs

Anthony

Theme park resident here, can confirm neon mummies on the mummy ride. No CGI mummy at the end but you do get to see a young Brendan Fraser, that being said excited for the Orlando live show!

tacticalgrandma

Someone spin this short rest off into a discovery channel documentary

tacticalgrandma

Actually, these orcas are out for revenge. Scientists who’ve followed the pod noticed that their matriarch, White Gladis, had injuries from a boat rudder before the attacks started. So these orcas are all very pissed we fucked with their mom.

Rhys Lemoine

A Crickmas Carol featuring Hardwon as Scrooge would be a great live show or mixed bag

Jake de Medeiros

I’ve read that study and myself and the team I work on don’t agree with it. It’s possible, I’m not going to deny that, but it’s slightly anthropomorphic. Orcas are smart, but that theory requires belief that a matriarch orca can change the behaviour of adult orcas to which she has no relation. Maybe that’s true in humans, but I don’t see it being true in orcas. Perhaps White Gladis’s calf’s might be wary of rudders, but I think it would stop there. The media really loves that headlines because it sells that “nature is taking revenge on us!” story to non-biologists. Orcas are complicated, but we can tell when orcas are playing versus when they’re hunting or fighting, and the expressions they have when damaging a boat rudder are not those of fighting off a threat. They’re playing a new game, plain and simple.

Fun Fact! In Australia we have paralysis ticks in summer! Be tick safe people, checkyourself and your dogs after a bushwalk.

norah harley

i am the tarantula expert and i was in fact only excited to hear y’all talk about my sweet weird dogs

Stephen Fike

The mummy ride in Orlando has a really dope room that lights on fire at one point

Libbi Longworth

Omg Caldwell I have the same boundaries with Spiders in my house. You get the 3 inches closest to the ceiling and if you come down further then...we have a problem.

Daughter of the Sun

I grew up calling fig eater beetles Japanese beetles. As an adult, I'm now not certain if it's racist somehow

Nye-Low

A deer with a sick, jet black Jagr mullet.

Olivia M

Caldwell your dad story made me so happy 🥹 please share them as much as you want to!! 💕

spectralotter

When in doubt, just change the writing! Imodir 🦌

AK_Zephyr

Well I tried to get midjourney to render me an emo deer. The closest I got was creepy emo deer girl hybrid... So I present bean rat as imagined by MidJourney: https://imgur.com/a/0PaDrXX

Gavin Pountney

I know I’m a bit late to to comments, but on the off chance Caldwell reads this. I highly recommend looking up the Beetroopers archetype for yugioh. They’re just a bunch of lil ol beetle soldiers

Matt Boggs

The nice hair deer has to be called the Pompadeer.

Stephen Lander

My vote is for the deer name is The Jersey Fallen Angel

A.E. Ross

love the yaunt and yuncle energy during spider chat

k.allen

Real talk though I think we all want kid stories on the short rest. Maybe just me but I have a feeling I have support

Alec Rundle

The spiders you saw in Australia were probably Golden Orb Weavers. We have tonnes of them in Brisbane.

Ian Holden

I can confirm no deaths have occurred out of the orcas sinking ships and only three have fully sunk. There is a bunch of fun merch about it on Etsy if you are interested

Winters

This is wayyyy late but my wife has been working on a cryptids quilt and I convinced her to put the emdoe on it and I’m so excited 😂

Matt Doughty

OK WAIT can we have more backstory confessionals??

Jake L.

I'd love A Crickmas Carol one shot. Ghosts of NPCs visit Hardwon and help him get his Crickmas spirit back.

Fi7TOR

As an eastern Canadian, the only beetles I remember seeing are from the Mummy or BeetleJuice

AgedGouda

Blink 180 does??

Forg

Wait does this mean if i ever see Murph in real life that i can ask him about his life’s backstory ? 😂

gandalfsbignaturals

playing someone's character in the future for them and making them suck would only be funny if it were hardwon

TallishCard643

Anyone know the mech stat black he's referencing?

Matthew

You're joking but EmDoes exist, there's a species of deer where I live that has a 1 in a million chance to be all black and I saw one at a residential job I was working at

4sight

Caulder cursed my brain cause now I can't stop imagining them as obelisks

Kaitlyn Orton

Pawpaw and other possums actually eat ticks! Every possum you see is protecting you from Lyme disease and other tick related illnesses! Protect our possums!

Santa Grinch Hugging HumBaba and two Fairies

Unfortunately i was looking at the Old Spaghetti factory Website and their page about Shark Tank related Myster diner theater really worked for me and im upset pver how tempted i am to walk to the Phx Old Spaghetti Factory for a 3 course mealbduringba heat wave

Venus Astria

The Mummy is so good, the sequel The Scorpion King is “interesting”, the third movie about their son? Don’t watch

Compound27

I HAD to create a picture of a deer with an emo haircut and I'm glad I did lol
